Darrel Carpenter

1933 – 2018

Mr. Darrel Lee Carpenter of Mountain View, Alberta, passed away on May 30, 2018 at the St. Michael’s Health Centre at the age of 85 years. His death ended a long battle with mesothelioma, a cancer caused by asbestos exposure.

Darrel grew up in Poplar and Wolf Point, Montana. He attended North West University, joined the US Army and at 23 he married Barbara Thomas. They lived in various places throughout the US and northern Alberta during his careers as a high school French and English teacher, an elementary teacher, a few years of ministry, and teaching English as a second language before retiring in Mountain View. Darrel loved life and learning. His interests included linguistics (a major subject in his PhD studies), literature, Christian epistemology, poetry, nature, boating, fishing and bird watching.

Darrel is survived by three children, Jeanne Wilson, Lane Carpenter and Tamara Mottershead; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; his brother Donny Carpenter; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and their families. He was anticipating a great celebration in heaven, when he would reunite with his beloved wife Barbara Thomas Carpenter; his mother Addie Ault Carpenter; his sister Beverly Faulkner; daughter Dawn Annette; and many others.

Darrel and Barbara enjoyed meeting new people and tried to help whenever they saw a need. Suggested donations in their honor may be sent to the Streets Alive Mission (323 – 4th St. South; Lethbridge, AB; T1J 1Z9) or to the St. Michael’s Health Centre, Lethbridge (Room 3C60, 11111 Jasper Avenue, Edmonton, AB; T5K 0L4).

A Memorial Service for both Barb and Darrel will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, July 14, 2018 at the MIZ CITY CHURCH, 502 13 Street N., Lethbridge, AB.
