Dorothy Baldrey

1933 – 2018

Dorothy Shirley (Christensen) Baldrey beloved sister, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and much-loved wife of the late James (Slim) Baldrey, passed away in Lethbridge AB, on Saturday, October 20, at the age of 85 years. Dorothy was born in Lethbridge on July 24, 1933 and Lethbridge was where she made her home. She was part of the first classes to attend (the then new) LCI, where she excelled in sports. She was especially fond of basketball and went on to win the provincial championship in her final year. For several years, Dorothy worked for Enerson’s Motors before joining the team at the Royal Bank of Canada. Mom spent many happy years at the bank, especially enjoying all the wonderful people she worked with. She was able to retire a little early and to enjoy time with her family and community. Mom’s happiest times were camping with the extended family and she was blessed to have had 25 years with her beloved husband, Slim, before his passing in 2003. Anyone who met Dorothy was struck by her elegance and positive attitude. She never had a bad word to say and she sincerely wanted the very best for everyone. Above all, she cherished her family and her faith. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and throughout her life, she was honored to serve in a variety of callings. She loved fashion, scrapbooking and genealogy and mostly, her extended and unruly family. Although Dorothy did face many difficulties in her life, she was, above all, extremely grateful for the many blessing Heavenly Father had bestowed upon her. She will be forever missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her sister, Pat Donkin, her half-brother Michael Order, her sister-in-law, Joan Carmichael, her children; Debra (Carey) Jackson, Craig Fellner, Rodney (Sue) Baldrey, Sandra (Lori) Fellner and her daughter-in-law, Brenda (Oriano Del Bello) Baldrey, her grandchildren; Tamara (Rick) Wilton, Amber (Harold) Kreis, James and Brianna Baldrey; her great grandsons Addison and Tobin Wilton and Kyle Kreis; her childhood friend, Marion Bolokoski, and more recently, her good friend Chuck Slater, as well as many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. She is predeceased by her parents, Nellie MacDonald and Lester Christensen; the love of her life, James Baldrey; her much cherished brother-in-law, Dave Carmichael; her son, Ronald Baldrey, and her dear nephew, Russell Donkin. Family and Friends are invited to pay their respects at 12:00pm, on Friday, October 26, 2018, at MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL 610 – 4 street South, Lethbridge Alberta, with Funeral Service to follow at 1:00pm.
