BRECKA

JOHANNA GERDINA BRECKA, (née Hillebrand), beloved wife of Stan Brecka, of Picture Butte, AB, passed away peacefully with loved ones by her side, on Friday, December 14, 2018 at the age of 72 years, following a courageous battle with breast cancer.

Johanna is survived by her husband Stan, children Bonnie (Anton) Suberlak, and Alan (Amy) Brecka; two grandchildren Johnathan and Sophia; sister Bertha Biluk of Armstrong, B.C. and her daughters Lori (Anderson) Galdino, Sherri (Grant) Davyduke, Krista (Wayne) Biluk and numerous cousins. She is also survived by Stan’s siblings Vladimir (Cathy) Brecka, Geraldine Cochrane and their families.

Johanna is preceded in death by her parents, infant brother and two brothers-in-law Wayne Cochrane and Ernie Biluk.

Johanna was born in Macleod, Alberta, on October 20, 1946 to Joan and Bert Hillebrand and was raised on a farm in the Granum area. She married Stan Brecka on January 10, 1978 and lived on the family farm for 41 years until her passing.

Johanna graduated from the St. Michael’s School of Nursing in 1970 and worked as a registered nurse for 36 years. Her passions included spending time with her family, travelling to numerous destinations over the years and her pastime of quilting. She was also a faithful follower of Christ and very active in the community over the years.

Relatives and friends are invited to a Visitation at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, AB, on Thursday, December 20, 2018 from 7:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.

A Funeral Service will be held at CORNERSTONE COMMUNITY EVANGELICAL FREE CHURCH, 440 Crescent Avenue, Picture Butte, AB, on Friday, December 21, 2018 at 1:00 P.M. with Pastor Peter Coyne officiating, with a reception to follow at the Picture Butte Community Centre, 607 Highway Avenue North, Picture Butte.

A Private Family Interment will be held prior to the Funeral Service.

Jon Denis Teynor 1953 –2018

Jon Teynor passed away peacefully on December 11, 2018 in Medicine Hat Alberta at the age of 65 years. Jon was born on October 10, 1953 in Lethbridge Alberta. Jon’s memory will be cherished by his daughter Charlotte, his Mother Trudy Kazokas, brothers and sisters, Wayne (Jeanette) Clark, Linda (Rod Kilthau), Gayle (Ronnie) Teramura, Marj (Marvin) Sheen, Joan (Gary) Riesler, Peggy (Dave) Carpenter and Wally Kazokas. Jon is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Jon was predeceased by his grandparents John and Hermina Schaalje, his father Clarence Teynor, Step father Joseph Kazokas, sisters Mina Roberts and Carol Pohlemann and niece Tracy Pohlemann. As per Jon’s request there will be no funeral. Jon will be sadly missed by all that knew him.

PLAXTON

DR. ROBERT “BOB” PLAXTON passed away peacefully on December 10, 2018.

He is survived by his wife Ann Louise, daughters Linda Plaxton and Nancy (Rick) Baker and son David Plaxton (Debbie Dew). Bob will be missed by his granddaughters Lauren Warnica, Kathryn Warnica, Victoria Baker, Leah Plaxton and Chloe Plaxton. Bob is survived by five siblings, Muriel Avery, Audrey Plaxton, Gordon (Nan) Plaxton, Jean (Bob) Midyette and John Plaxton, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Bob was born and raised in and around Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. Following high school, he went to the University of Saskatchewan to obtain his Bachelor of Arts and his Bachelor of Education degrees. Later in his career, he obtained his Masters of Arts degree and his Ph.D. in Education Administration at the University of Alberta. Bob enjoyed his career in Education both in Calgary and Lethbridge. He was Superintendent of Lethbridge School District #51 for 18 years.

Following retirement, Bob became Executive Director of the College of Alberta School Superintendents. His work in Education allowed him to be very much involved in the community of Lethbridge and the province of Alberta.

Please join us to remember Bob at a celebration of his life on Thursday December 20, 2018 at the LETHBRIDGE COUNTRY CLUB – 101 Country Club Rd, Lethbridge, AB. There will be a remembrance program at 12:00 P.M. followed by a social gathering and light lunch.

Gloria Smith

1937 – 2018

Gloria May Smith of Lethbridge AB., wife of Robert passed away after a lengthy illness on December 13, 2018 at the age of 81 years. Gloria was born in Bracken, Saskatchewan on May 23, 1937 to Leo and Hanna Brandon. She grew up on the Brandon cattle ranch south of Valmarie, Saskatchewan near the Montana border. She attended school at Stoney Trail Country school two miles from the ranch headquarters. She learned about ranch life at an early age, rounding up, branding, and vaccinating cattle. She was a real animal lover and always had dogs and cats for special pets. Gloria married Bob Smith on January 21, 1958 in Havre, Montana, and they started their life together in Valmarie, as an Imperial Esso bulk agent. Through the years they moved to Shaunavon SK, Taber AB, and finally to Lethbridge where they worked with Husky Oil, and in their own family trucking business Del-Rio Management LTD. where Gloria was a dispatcher and took care of the books. While at Husky Oil Gloria fueled up and washed windshields on eighteen wheelers. Gloria was great at doing needlepoint and cross stitch work and has many framed pictures of her pieces that she had won first place ribbons for at the exhibition. Along with her love of cross stitch and needlepoint, Gloria had a passion for country music, and she was always singing along, slapping her knee and telling us stories of the stars lives, Blake Shelton in particular. Besides her husband Bob she is survived by her son Arlene (Jacki) Smith, and grandchildren, Brandon (Jenna) Smith, Dustin (Jill) Smith, Virginia (Reg) Reeder, Jessie (Josh) Vaters, and seven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents Leo and Hanna Brandon, brother Harland, and sisters Cleofae, and Fern. We all miss ya girl and will leave you with a thumbs up and a “beautymon” as you always did to us. Rest in Peace, until we meet again. As per Gloria’s request no formal service will be held. A Celebration of Life will be held by the family at a later date.

HERMAN JOHANNES STROEVE, of Picture Butte, beloved husband of Elizabeth Stroeve, passed away peacefully and surrounded by his family at the Coaldale Health Centre on Thursday, December 13, 2018 at the age of 76 years.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at ST. CATHERINE’S ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH – 762 Crescent Avenue, Picture Butte, AB on Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. with Father Ian Gagne, Celebrant.

Following the Funeral Mass, Herman will be laid to rest at Mountain View Cemetery during a Private Family Graveside Service.
