ROBERT DANNATT, of Warner, beloved husband of Joan Dannatt, passed away suddenly in Glenwood on Saturday, March 30, 2019 at the age of 63 years.

Riel England

April 13, 1942 – March 31, 2019

Riel England, beloved husband of the late Lilly England, passed away on March 31, 2019 at the Chinook Regional Hospital in Lethbridge, Alberta. Riel was a long time resident of Fort Macleod and had recently moved to The View in Lethbridge. He is survived by his step-daughters Donna (Tymen) Stotyn of Monarch and Eileen (Curtis) Mark of Lethbridge, step-sons Harold (Jos) Wutke of Nobleford and Ron (Bobbie) Wutke of Granum, and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Gone but not forgotten. A Private family interment will be held at the Union Cemetery in Fort Macleod. DAWN MARIE FOLK, beloved wife of Shawn Folk of Lethbridge, passed away at home on Monday, April 1, 2019 at the age of 51 years.

Besides her loving husband, she is survived by her daughter Madison of Lethbridge, her son Dawson of Lethbridge, her mom Betty-Anne of Sioux Lookout, ON and her sisters Kelly (Mark) Visser of Lethbridge, Tracy LaRose of Edmonton and Lori (Gordon) Schiller of Red Deer. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews Kelly, Mackenzie, Lindsay, Brette, Brendon, Carson and Kaden.

She was predeceased by her father Dennis Allan Mathews of Taber.

Dawn was born in Lethbridge. She was raised in Redcliff, where she grew up attending Parkside School. She then attended McCoy High in Medicine Hat and graduated from Catholic Central High School after her family had moved to Lethbridge before her Grade 12 year. After high school, she attended SAIT and obtained her diploma in Dental Assisting. She then worked for Dr. Malmberg for several years. After marrying Shawn in 1991, they welcomed Madison into the world in 1996, followed by Dawson in 1999.

In October of 1999, our lives changed with the discovery of a brain tumour– hence the fearless, tireless, unselfish life of not fighting cancer, but living with cancer for 19 and a half years. The ups and the downs, the battles and the blessings came to a peaceful end with Dawn’s last wish to pass peacefully at home.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a foundation that is being created in memory of Dawn. This foundation will assist all front-line emergency services professionals in need of immediate assistance. The name of this foundation is “A New Dawn”. Details will be announced online once finalized.

Grace (Grietje) Holtrop

April 10, 1932 – April 2, 2019

Grace Holtrop, beloved wife of the late Bob Holtrop, passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness at the Sunny South Lodge in Coaldale, Alberta, on Tuesday, April 2, 2019. Grace was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Her happiest moments were when she was surrounded by her family. She enjoyed having a game of Canasta or Skip-Bo and going bowling. Her greatest joy was when she held her grandchildren and great grandchildren on her lap. She will be greatly missed by all who loved her and by those who got the opportunity to meet and care for her. Born, raised and educated in Holland, the late Grace Holtrop married her sweetheart, Bob, on May 1, 1952 in Holland and immigrated to Southern Alberta with her young family in 1955. In 1959 she moved to Coaldale, where she resided until her passing. Grace is survived by her one son Jim (Deb Beringer) Holtrop; five daughters Wilma (Doug) Fujita, Shirley (Rob) Den Braber, Annie Van Herk, Jeanette (Barry) Bigford, and Teresa Holtrop; 16 grandchildren Tammy (Jon) Orsak, Kyle (Marta Bolek) Fujita, Ryan (Janine) Den Braber, Tania (Collin) Appelt, Cara (Keith) Townsend, Tony (Lysa) Van Herk, Jolene (Brody) Allen, Michelle (Peter) Vanderwekken, Danielle (Zach Delday) Van Herk, Robert Holtrop, Jordan Holtrop, Jeremy (Christine Irwin) Van Braak, Jessica (Steve) Smith, James (Lisa) Van Braak, Sarah (Blake Thompson) Reierson, Rylan Reierson and 17 great grandchildren; her siblings Peter (Hazel) Sandstra, Mike (Lila) Sandstra, Marvin (Wilma) Sandstra, Jenny (Wayne) Wright and Sid (Jeanette) Sandstra; her stepsiblings (Mary) DeJong, Jan (Joan) DeJong, Magda (Jim) Dykstra, Johan (Marian) DeJong, Joanne (Curt) Rozendaal, Tony DeJong, and Henry (Linda) DeJong. Grace is also survived by many nephews and nieces. KINNIBURGH

Corrine Francis Kinniburgh, beloved wife of the late Jerry Kinniburgh, passed away peacefully on April 1, 2019 in Medicine Hat, Alberta at the age of 87 years. Corrine is survived by two daughters Laurie Kinniburgh of Richmond, BC and Patty (Kevin) Henderson of Medicine Hat; five grandchildren Donna and Neil Gibbings, Jennifer, Jodi and Dylan Henderson; sister-in-law Bettejean (Bruce) Fisher and numerous nieces and nephews. Corrine was born August 31, 1931 in Viking, Alberta to Margaret and Peter Lindquist. They relocated to Fincastle and then to Taber where Corrine resided until 2017 when she moved to Medicine Hat to be near family. Corrine loved music and it became the focal point of her life very early on. She learned to play the piano at a young age. She joined her father and a group of great musicians and played for dances around the community to earn money for her piano lessons, and took the bus to Lethbridge once a week to continue her training. She attended the Banff School of Fine Arts and completed her ARCT. She married Jerry Kinniburgh on October 20, 1951 and had two daughters Laurie and Patty. She began teaching piano lessons shortly after her marriage and continued to teach full time until her retirement. While teaching full time, Corrine helped Jerry maintain the farm south of Purple Springs taking on many jobs, and keeping an organized home and business. She was also a member of the Taber Music Teachers Association and held office in Eastern Star for many years. Corrine was an extremely talented pianist and also learned to play the alto sax in the Community Band. After Corrine retired, she took up golf and curling and loved spending time with her friends on and off the course. Corrine touched the lives of many throughout southern Alberta through her music and zest for life and was a revered and respected musician in the community. A celebration of Corrine’s life will be announced at a later date. MECKELBORG

HELMUT CHARLES MECKELBORG, beloved husband of Judy Meckelborg, passed away peacefully at home of leukemia on Monday, April 1, 2019 at the age of 77 years.

Hal was born in St. Gregor, SK and grew up on the farm near Muenster, SK. After teaching school in Broadacres, SK and Camrose, AB he continued his career in Lethbridge at St. Francis Jr. High School for 29 years, where he enjoyed wonderful friendships with his colleagues. Hal cherished his family, quiet country living and travelling the world with Judy. He was a man of devout faith, quiet strength and a loving father and grandfather. Hal truly was a fine man.

Hal was predeceased by his parents Johanna and Bernard Meckelborg, his brothers Alfred, Otto, Ben, John, and Wally. He is survived by brothers Al and Ray, sister Joanne, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his loving wife Judy of 52 years, Hal will be greatly missed by his daughter, Susan, and her children Robyn, Lauren and Kyle, son Douglas, son Jim (Lisa) and their children Livia and Reid.

MARGARET ROLFSON, beloved wife of the late Varold Rolfson of Magrath passed away on March 31, 2019 at the age of 97 years. She is the loving mother of Elaine (Wallace) Mitchell, David (Ruth) Rolfson, Arilla (John) Stratton, Richard (Nonavi) Rolfson, Sally (Kent) Smith and Chris (Juanita) Rolfson. She is also survived by 36 grandchildren, 72 great grandchildren, 12 great great grandchildren, her sister Julia Rolfson and a sister-in-law Marion Bennett. She was predeceased by her husband Varold ‘Sandy’ Rolfson, her sisters Eunice and Alice and her brothers Austin and Lynn. SCHMIEGELT

ANNELIESE SCHMIEGELT, of Coaldale, beloved wife of the late Herbert Schmiegelt, passed away peacefully with her family by her side at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Saturday, March 30, 2019, at the age of 96 years.

She is the loving mother of her son Harald (Linda) and their children Robin (Wade) McKeeman, and Adam; her daughter Dorit (Ken) Rogalsky and their children Trina (Darcy) Welsch, Kevin (Dayna) and Julie (Colin) Gnyp; her son Werner (Janet) and their children Michael (Angela) and Braden. She is also survived by nine great-grandchildren, one sister, Ingrid Bergmann, two sisters-in-law Irmgard Claassen of Calgary and Inge Schmiegelt of Germany, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Anneliese was predeceased by her parents, Eduard and Margarete Claassen, brother Helmut Claassen and his wife Katie, brother Manfred Claassen, sister Rosemarie Maclean and her husband Duncan, one niece Elenore Claassen.

Anneliese was born on June 16, 1922, in Ladekopp, Germany. She immigrated to Canada through the Mennonite Central Committee with her newly married husband Herbert and the rest of her family in May 1951. They worked hoeing sugar beets in the Coaldale area when they first arrived. Herbert and mom settled in Coaldale where they raised three children.

Mom had a real passion for gardening and cooking and baking. She loved baking and we, as children, loved every little bit of it. Her love of cooking landed her a job at the Coaldale Hospital as a cook where she continued to cook and bake for 17 years. She was also a faithful member of her church and belonged to the Ladies Sunbeam Sewing Circle, Hospital Auxiliary, and volunteered at the MCC variety store. After her health started to fail she started to crochet squares for the “Blankets for Canada” making over 100 squares.

Anneliese was a dedicated Oma and treasured her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

The family thanks the staff at St. Therese Villa where she was for three months and the staff and Dr. Plotnyk on 5A of the Chinook Regional Hospital for their loving care.

A Service of Remembrance will be held at the COALDALE MENNONITE CHURCH, 2316 – 17 Street, Coaldale, AB on Monday, April 8, 2019 at 2:30 P.M.
