Marlene Augusta Miller

1942 – 2019

Marlene Augusta Miller of Coaldale, beloved wife, partner and best friend of Keith Miller, passed away at the age of 76 surrounded by love on May 17, 2019, on the 50th anniversary of their marriage. Marlene was born on October 11, 1942 in Edberg, AB to parents Edwin and Marion Kravik into a farming family. Marlene enjoyed telling stories to the grandkids about the times she was doing chores and working hard, but even more so about the fun she had with her siblings on the farm. She loved her brothers and sisters dearly, and loved reminiscing about her childhood days attending the Dorenlee School. She had an intense love for music, and an ear to play many instruments including the guitar, autoharp and organ to name a few. She also loved to sing and could harmonize like no other. This made her irresistible to the young man named Keith who had a guitar slung over his shoulder, who saw her sitting on the bench in a basement playing her guitar and singing away. So naturally, he joined in and she had his heart within a couple of notes. Keith and Marlene were married on May 17, 1969 in Calgary and continued to make music together for exactly 50 years, until Keith sang to her one last time. They made their home across Alberta until settling in Coaldale for the past 40 years. She spent most of her time as a homemaker but worked for a while as a housekeeper. She loved gardening and could make anything grow. She had a special talent for her flowerbeds, potatoes, raspberries and especially her strawberry patch. She was an amazing mom and an even better grandma. She always had cookies and endless hugs every single time they came over and bragged about them to everyone who would listen, especially her wonderful friends at the Sunny South Lodge, her last home. Besides her loving husband Keith, Marlene is survived by her mother Marion Kravik; sons Perry (Karol) Miller, Garry (Terri Ann) Miller, Roland (Jackie) Miller; daughter Candace (Rob) Van Diemen and daughter in law Marie Miller; step daughter Caryn Daye; brothers Stanley and Clayton; sisters Dorothy and Joy; grandchildren Claudia (Clayton), Danielle, Julian, Keith jr., Kyle, Jeanne (Casey), Brendan (Rachel), Nathan, Kerrie, Stacey, Erica, C.J., Kyrsten and Taylor and 13 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her dad, Edwin Kravik; her son Lorne; sister Beverly; her grandson Stephen; brothers in law Dwight, Ross and Nelson and parents in law Lawrence and Audrey Miller. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects between 4:30pm and 6:00pm on Thursday, May 23, 2019 at MARTIN BROTHERS WATERTON SUITE, 610-4 Street South, Lethbridge Alberta. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00pm on Friday, May 24, 2019, at MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610-4 Street South, Lethbridge, Alberta. Interment to follow at the Coaldale Community Cemetery.
