Joyce Andreachuk

1930 – 2019

It is with profound sadness that the family of JOYCE MARIE ANDREACHUK announce her passing on May 22, 2019, at the age of 89 years. Joyce was the beloved wife for 67 years of William “Bill” Andreachuk. She was the devoted and proud mother of Lori Andreachuk (Harlow Otto), Randy Andreachuk (Pamela) and Leslie Meli (Joe). Joyce is also survived by her cherished grandchildren Lindsay Meli, Ashley Meli, Mitchell Andreachuk (Chelsea Gallagher) and her furry Coco. Joyce worked as an Executive Secretary for many years. However, her family’s needs were her top priority. She always had a welcoming and immaculate home and had many pastimes, especially reading a good book. Joyce and Bill enjoyed many winters with friends in Phoenix, Arizona. She was an avid sports and TV fan, loved watching her children and grandchildren in their many pursuits and rooting for the Blue Jays with Bill. Predeceased by her parents; and her sisters Joan and Patricia. Respecting Joyce’s wishes, a private family Celebration of Life will follow at a later date. Allan Corbett

1928 – 2019

Mr. Allan Corbett of Lethbridge, beloved husband of Mrs. Isabel Corbett, passed away at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Monday, May 20, 2019 at the age of 90 years. Al moved from Nelson, B.C. to Lethbridge in 1949 to work for CP Express. He and Isabel met in Lethbridge and were married in 1954. Al and Isabel continued to reside in Lethbridge where they raised their two children Barbara and Tom. Al went to work for Oliver Chemical Industrial in 1965. He held a variety of positions with Oliver until his retirement in 1991. Al was a very active volunteer in Lethbridge at St. Andrews Church, the Lethbridge Food Bank, the Lethbridge Air Show, the Kiwanis Festival and the Lethbridge Swim Club. Al always enjoyed being around children and loved being Santa Claus at the College Value Mall. One of his great joys was the time he spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Through his life Al dealt with heart disease, colon cancer and all the many issues related to kidney disease and met all of them without complaint and a positive, “can do” attitude. Besides his loving wife of 64 years Isabel, Allan is survived by his daughter Barbara (Sandy Sutherland) Kinahan; son Tom (Lynn) Corbett; grandchildren Tim (Kira) Kinahan, Graham (Brittany Stella) Kinahan, Brandon (Desirae) Kinahan, Kelsey (Glen) Des Roche, Ryan (Jayna Welch) Corbett, Meghan (Abrar Khan) Corbett; twelve great-grandchildren; brother Maurice (Enid) Corbett and sister-in-law Anne Corbett; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and their families. Allan was predeceased by his parents Victor and Jeannie-Ann Corbett; brothers Thomas, Levi, John, Jim, Gerald and Ronald, and his only sister Ellen. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, May 27, 2019 at MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610-4 Street South, Lethbridge, Alberta. With Reverend Hugh Jack officiating. A private family Internment will be held prior to the service. Flowers are gratefully declined. Frank Di Michele

1948 – 2019

Frank Robert Di Michele passed away peacefully on May 21, 2019 at the age of 70 surrounded by loved ones. Born in Cellara, Cozensa, Italy, Frank moved to Canada at the age of two with his parents Giuseppe and Teresa. He lived in Sault Ste Marie until 1998 when he and his ex-wife, Jo Anne, moved to Alberta and settled in Coalhurst. He continued his business, Honey Do Window Cleaning, until his illness made it impossible for him to do so. He loved the work but more so the people. Besides his loving partner Louisa, Frank is survived by his son Joe; grandson Matthew; brother John (Elaine); niece Cheryl Esposito (Mike) and their children; nephew John (Kara) and their children and his cousin, Anna. Frank will be remembered for his love of cooking and his big heart. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, June 1, 2019 at 217 – 50th Avenue, Coalhurst, Alberta.

HURD

PEGGY DIANNE EDWARDS HURD, of Lethbridge, Alberta, passed away at age 57 from cancer, on May 21, 2019, in Saint Michael’s Palliative Care Center. She is survived by her husband Bob Hurd, her 5 children; Stephanie (Dennis) Jones, Melanie (Aaron) Nalder, Selena (Michael) Atkins, Wesley Hurd (fiancé Sam Kolasko), Bradley Hurd, her 2 grandchildren; Beckett Atkins and Valerie Jones, her 3 siblings; Terry (Melynda) Edwards, Julie (Randy) Fajnor, Greg (Tina) Edwards. She helped raise Sarah Bisgaard (fiancé Daylen Tidmarsh). She also loved Bob’s 5 children and 11 grandchildren from his first marriage. Peggy was born on September 9, 1961 to Clarence and Jane Edwards in Lethbridge at Saint Michael’s Hospital. After a short time in California her family moved back to Barnwell. She went to school in Barnwell and Taber. Then, following her older brother’s example, went to Rick’s College and BYU, completing a degree in chemistry. She was working at the Research Station when she met Bob at a Single’s function in Taber. She loved math and tutored high school students as a part time job while raising her own children. She was very active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints always magnifying her calling and reaching out to help others. Her favourite calling was teaching early morning Seminary and was very saddened when her illness became too debilitating to let her continue. The Funeral is on Friday, May 31, 2019 at 10:30 am in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, COPPERWOOD CHAPEL, 9 Keystone Terrace West, Lethbridge. There will be a lunch provided. The burial is in Barnwell at 2:30pm.

LANDERYOU

It is with great sadness that family and friends announce the passing of JOHN CHARLES LANDERYOU at St. Therese Villa on May 14, 2019 at the age of 93 years.

John is survived by his loving wife, Betty and five children: Pat Lichter, Jack Landeryou, Susan Supina, Gordon (Jen) Landeryou and Karen Landeryou, as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his parents, John & Emma Landeryou, his stepmother, Ruth Landeryou and his three sisters, Hazel (Jim) Lemoal, Juanita (Bill) McNabb and Joan (Steve) Suetta.

John was born in St. Louis, Missouri on July 13, 1925. He served in the American Air Force during World War II. John met and married the love of his life, Betty, in 1947.

After graduating from the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Commerce, he sold life insurance in Toronto for ten years. Later, he moved to Lethbridge and taught at Winston Churchill High School for 26 years.

He will be fondly remembered for his love of playing Bridge, as he was a Life Master at it. This pursuit, along with many fishing trips, filled much of his retirement.

Cremation has been entrusted to Cornerstone Funeral Home.

A Family Memorial Service will be held at a later date.

OPP

MARTHA OPP (nee Schlaht) of Claresholm, AB, passed away peacefully at the Willow Creek Continuing Care Centre, Claresholm, on May 21, 2019, at the age of 96. Born in Dina, AB and later moved to Mendham, SK. She arrived in Claresholm with her parents in Sept. 1937. She married Bill Opp in 1940, spending most of her life in Claresholm. Martha was married to Bill for 62 years.

Martha is survived by 3 children – Don Opp (Frankie), Sharon Brown, and Terry Opp (Candace), her brother Sam (Ila), Grandc hildren – Jim Opp (Pam), Rob Opp (N’vunda Isabel), Darcy Brown (Judy), Tyler Brown (Merissa), Christy Hanson (Chris), Kari Manser (Dave), Leif Hanson (Julie). Martha was blessed with 13 great grandchildren.

Martha was predeceased by her parents Fred and Lydia Schlaht, her husband Bill, an infant daughter Doreen, three sisters (Annie, Frieda, Mary), and 4 brothers (Alfred, Bert, Ted, Edwin).

Martha worked at the Willow Creek Auxiliary Hospital for many years. She was a long time member of Peace Lutheran Church. Family was important to Martha and time spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren was precious to her.

Favourite activities were camping, fishing, golfing, playing cards, and bingo. Martha loved music and dancing. She was a very social person and loved to organize family parties and to help others celebrate special occasions. She was an excellent cook and loved to pass on her traditional family favourites to others.

A Memorial Service will be held at Peace Lutheran Church (126 – 43 Ave. West, Claresholm) on Thursday, May 30, 2019 at 2:00 pm. with Pastor Donna Alm officiating.

ORTLIEB

KAREN JANE ORTLIEB, of Lethbridge, passed away peacefully in her sleep at St. Michael’s Health Centre on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at the age of 56, after a brave and quiet battle with cancer.

She is lovingly remembered by her dear companion and best friend of 29 years, Dennis Stringam, her stepdaughters, Stacey (Chad) Lysak and Chelsea Stringam (Jeff Ainscough) and grandchild, Rosealynn. She is also survived by her parents, Walter & Violet Ortlieb, her brothers, Ronald (Jodie) Ortlieb and Kevin Ortlieb, her nieces and nephew, Amber, Leslie, Ashley and Jason (Russet) Ortlieb and grandnieces, Gracie, Hannah, Alexandria and Lucy.

Karen was born on March 22, 1963 in Edmonton to Walter & Violet Ortlieb. She instantly became their beloved daughter as well as a beloved sister to Ronald and Kevin – her twin. She worked in the family business, Classic Carpets, for 26 years.

Karen loved nature; she would spend time watching and nurturing the wild rabbits and birds in her yard. She especially loved her dog, Buddy, who predeceased her. Gardening – specifically flowers – was a passionate hobby. History and politics were also areas of interest that sparked both learning and dynamic conversations.

Karen loved to travel; specifically, she enjoyed the time she spent in Kauai with Dennis, as well as a Mediterranean cruise with her mom. She travelled with her family to her parents’ homeland, Germany in 1972.

Furthermore, Karen enjoyed working with her hands. She crocheted, baked and experimented with many recipes and was generous in sharing her creations. This past Christmas, she crocheted beautiful Christmas stockings for each of her nephew’s children and had already begun working on their Christmas gifts for 2019. In the end, Karen’s family sparked much joy as she shared her talents and gifts.

A Celebration of Karen’s Life will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, AB on Monday, May 27, 2019 at 2:00 P.M.

Interment will follow at the Mountain View Cemetery.

Cora Scholten of Fort Macleod, beloved wife of the late Hank Scholten passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on May 23, 2019 at the age of 77 years.
