Rosina Marie Mucciarone

1937 – 2020

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Rosina Marie Mucciarone (nee D’Agnone) of Lethbridge, AB. With her family by her side, she passed peacefully at Chinook Regional Hospital on Friday, July 3, 2020, at 83 years of age.

Mom was born on March 30, 1937, in Civitanova Del Sanio, Provincia Compobassa, Italy. On April 14, 1948, at the age of 11, Mom immigrated with her parents, Giovanni and Filomena, and seven siblings to Canada. Upon arriving in Lethbridge, Mom’s family was met by her grandparents, Nicola and Maria, and resided with Nick Virginillo’s family for a brief time before moving to Readymade. After several months, Mom moved to the homestead in Judson with her family where she remained until she was married. Mom attended school in Wrentham with her favorite classes being Home Economics and Physical Education. She thoroughly enjoyed playing basketball and participating in track and field.

At the tender age of 15, Mom met the love of her life for the first time when Dad (Nick), an Italian immigrant new to Canada, visited the Giachetta farm. As the years went by, Dad continued to watch Mom grow with a twinkle in his eye, and when the time was right, he proposed. Wedding bells rang on October 25, 1958, at St. Patrick’s Church in Lethbridge. Mom and Dad celebrated 60 years of marriage on October 25, 2019, before Dad’s passing, a true testimony of their dedication to one another and their family.

Though Mom’s talents were many, her nearly 18 years of service with Ducan Industries Ltd. showcased her skill as a seamstress. She loved working with fabric and creating beautiful drapes. However, Mom’s greatest passion was her family and friends. No one knew the value of self-sacrifice like Mom. For the entirety of her life, she worked tirelessly to provide her family and friends with the best of everything. Whether preparing an Italian or Canadian feast, a batch of bread and buns, or a picnic lunch for a trip to Waterton, Mom poured love into her food. Her kitchen was her sanctuary, the place she felt most proud, because she knew her meals would bring her family together. Around Mom and Dad’s table, some of the greatest memories were made sharing stories and laughs, playing cards, or reminiscing about Disneyland, Las Vegas, and Hawaii, three of Mom’s favourite family trips. Closer to home, Mom would travel to all of her grandchildren’s music recitals or sporting events, beaming with pride next to Dad. Mom’s newest joy was the seeing and holding her two great grandchildren born this past year.

A great model of hospitality and generosity, anyone arriving at her door was greeted with a bright smile, offered a cup of coffee or a glass of wine, along with a homemade treat. Even a quick visit would often end with, “What can I give you?”. God gifted Mom with hands of service whether in the form of a meal or a prayerful embrace. Each and every day, she would read the bible and pray earnestly for her family and those in need. She was an active member of St. Basil’s Catholic Church community, serving as a Catholic Women’s League member for 20 years. Mom would often say that Jesus was her best friend, and her faith journey role modeled the importance of God in one’s life.

Mom will be dearly missed by her family and friends, but the memories we have of her will last a lifetime. Her infectious smile, peppy spirit, and sincerity of heart gave us all a chance to witness what it meant to enjoy a full life, one walked with the Lord, grateful for His many blessings.

Mom was predeceased by her husband, Nicola (Nick), her parents Giovanni and Filomena D’Agnone, her brothers Dominic, Nick, and Joe D’Agnone, her sister Mary Caruso, nephews Ben D’Agnone and Tom Caruso, and infant grandson, James Snodgrass. She is also predeceased by her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Giovanni and Assunta Mucciarone, brother-in-laws Antonio Mucciarone, Graziano Altieri, and Joe Caruso, and sister-in-law Yola Mucciarone.

Mom is survived by her son Rino (Luann) Mucciarone of Lethbridge and their children Cassie (Brett) Skauge, Ryan (girlfriend Phoebe) and Mathew; daughter Rita (Howard) Snodgrass of Medicine Hat and their children Jaimie (Iain) Purcell and Joel Snodgrass (girlfriend Kira), and the two newest editions, great grandson, Domenico Purcell and great granddaughter, Everly Skauge.

Mom is also survived by her brothers Luigi (Bev) D’Agnone of Wrentham and Tony (Laurie) D’Agnone of Skiff/Foremost; her sisters Delores (Phillip) Gurr of Diamond City and Amelia (Ken) Rollag of Lethbridge; sister-in-laws Assunta D’Agnone of Coaldale, Pat D’Agnone of Lethbridge, Antionetta Mucciarone and Palmina Altieri of Pennsylvania, Rosetta Mucciarone of Italy; step mother-in law Anna Mucciarone of Italy; brother-in-law Mario Mucciarone of Italy, and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to sincerely thank all the doctors, especially Dr. Lowe, Dr. Wilde, and Dr. Walsh, as well as the ICU and 4B nursing staff for their kindness, compassion, and genuine concern for Mom’s wellbeing.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Rosina’s name to the Jack Ady Cancer Centre, 960 – 19 Street South, Lethbridge, Alberta T1J 1W5.

Due to the restrictions surrounding COVID 19, a private Funeral Mass will be held at St. Basil’s Roman Catholic Church, with Father Kevin Tumback, celebrant. Interment will take place at Mountain View Cemetery.
