ELSIE KEARNS (nee Pavan)

Elsie Louise Kearns, beloved wife of Fred Joseph Kearns, passed away at Edith Cavell Care Centre on July 19, 2020 at the age of 93.

Elsie was born Aug 9, 1926 in Lethbridge to Petro (Pete) and Elizabeth (Voller/Faller) Pavan. She was raised on the farm with her two younger sisters in the Eight Mile Lake District and later in Lethbridge. She married the late John Delano Poche of Maybutt (Stirling) in June 1949 where they farmed and raised their family until John passed away in 1965. Elsie rented the land but remained on the farm with Ken until she married Fred Kearns from Nemiscan in 1970. They then farmed the land until retiring to Lethbridge in 1978 but they continued to enjoy the farming seasons whether on leisurely drives, cooking meals or providing a helping hand. Elsie kept her yard and house immaculate and was happiest when people stopped in for a visit and had their fill of her fresh baking. She treasured her grandchildren and embraced every moment she had with them leaving numerous fulfilling memories behind.

Besides her husband, she is survived by her sister, Joan (Ed) Baker of Mirror, Alberta; her son, Ken (Monica) Kearns of Lethbridge and her three grandchildren: Barrett (Eisha) Kearns and their son Nicholas of Lethbridge, Bonnie (Raif Shath) Kearns of UAE and Tiffany (Kyle Heitman) Kearns of Lethbridge. Also mourning her passing are caring in-laws, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; first husband; infant daughter, Brenda Poche; and sister, Marion (Charlie) Schramm.

With declining health issues she moved into Edith Cavell Care Centre in 2017 where she has resided until her passing. The family would like to thank all the staff for the care and assistance she received during this time.

At Elsie’s request, there will be no formal funeral service. Cremation has been entrusted to Salmon and Sons Funeral Home.

Geraldine Smith

1932 – 2020

It is with great sadness that we must say goodbye to a loving mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. Geraldine (Rosie) Nessie Smith passed away peacefully on July 21, 2020 at the age of 87.

Beloved wife to the late Andrew Valentine Smith, Gerri and Andy spent a loving 62 years of marriage together. She leaves behind their three daughters, Diane (Mike), Donna, and Debbie (Ron); three grandchildren, Amanda (David), Andrew and Abbilynn (Matt), their father Joe, as well as nieces, nephews, and friends.

Rosie was born and raised in Lethbridge. She spent a fulfilling 25 years working for Telus, but her greatest joy and accomplishment was her children and grandchildren. Rosie loved trips with Andy and their grandchildren, reading, knitting, coloring and simply visiting with those people and animals she loved. We will miss her gentleness, compassion, beautiful smile, and quick sense of humor.

A special thanks to Karen Thom, Monica Lanham and Connie Start for all their love and support over the years. A special thanks to the Homecare staff for assisting mom and dad over the past few years, and the staff of

Extendicare for ensuring mom’s comfort in her final weeks. Thank you to Ed and the staff at Norbridge Pharmacy for their support and care with mom and dad over the years.
