BILL WERNER MICHEL

March 26, 1936 – August 20, 2020

With hearts filled with love and sadness, we announce the passing of BILL WERNER MICHEL, faithful husband of 56 years to Barbara (Bowen) Michel, awesome father to Monique (Brad) Flickinger, Marlon (Heidi) Michel, Melissa (Brad) Hooper, and even more ‘awesomer’ grandfather to Lexie, Peter, Kacie, Dillon, Lexie Grace, and Annalise.

Firstborn of Werner and Theresa Michel, and brother to Madeline (Blair) Kurtz, Conrad (deceased), George (Patricia) Michel, the family immigrated from Switzerland when Bill was 12 years old.

Bill was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints for his entire life. When he was a young man, he served a 2 1/2 year mission back to Switzerland, and Bill and Barb served a mission together in Utah and in California. They both served as Ordinance workers for 21 years in the Cardston Temple.

God was first in his priority list, then came his family. How he loved his wife and children. Bill taught his children how to work….not by telling them what to do, but by working beside them and showing them. They built the family home and planted over 500 spruce trees on their 7 acres. Now, it looks like a pristine park.

He had asked Barb, if possible, that he would like to pass away in the family home. We honoured that request, and the evening of August 20, 2020, he passed surrounded by loved ones. Later that evening, a private funeral was held in the family home in Glenwood, Alberta, and the following morning, he was laid to rest in the Glenwood Cemetery.

Thank you to the pallbearers: Roger Clark, Steve Lybbert, Clinton Michel, George Michel, Doug Pitcher, and Donovan Watters. You were chosen to assist Bill because of your faithful service and love toward him.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Brian Low, Dr. Vitor DaSilva, the Cardston Home Care Nurses, and all others who provided care, love, and comfort.

John Vonkeman

1941 – 2020

With saddened hearts we announce the passing of John (Jan) Vonkeman, who went to be with the Lord peacefully at the age of 78.

John was born second-youngest of nine children in the town of Doetinchem, The Netherlands. The family immigrated to Canada and settled in the Iron Springs area in 1952. John eventually took up dairy farming and successfully ran a dairy operation until his retirement in 2005.

John was a kind, gentle, welcoming, and caring man who loved his family and friends. He loved to plant trees, garden, and share its produce with others. He had a passion for sharing the love of Jesus through music and song. Now he’s singing bass in Heaven’s choir with the good Lord above.

John will be lovingly remembered and missed by his wife Jo, daughters Joni and Esther, son-in-law Graeme Roset, little grandson Linden, and extended family and friends.

When we’ve been there

ten thousand years

Bright shining as the sun

We’ve no less days to sing

God’s praise

Than when we’d first begun.

Due to current restrictions, a private family Graveside Service will be held at the Royal View Cemetery.
