Jean Hammon

1921 – 2020

Mrs. Jeanette “Jean” Hammon of Lethbridge, beloved wife of the late Mr. Jerry Hammon, passed away at Adaptacare, on Thursday, August 27, 2020, at the age of 98 years.

For 30 years we would say “See you tomorrow Mom” and for 30 years the reply would be “If I’m still here.” She’s not here anymore. After a long life filled with family, music, friends, knitting, books and cards Jean took her final Journey.

Born in Indian Head, Saskatchewan and raised in Lethbridge, Jean was the eldest child of Archie and Etta Johnston followed by Dorothy, Boyne, Bill, Dick and Tim. Her love of music began the day she was born, Archie playing the fiddle with Jean on the piano, always adding her special flair to each piece! Gifted with an exceptional ear Jean was able to play the piano by the age of 5. If there was a piano in her line of sight she was unable to walk by it without playing it. She didn’t stop until hearing loss took her beloved music away from her.

She was an exceptional knitter and continued knitting until her last day, even though glaucoma stole much of her eyesight.

Jean was a school teacher. She loved her students and they loved her! She met her husband Jerry Hammon while teaching in Turin and they married and had 3 children; Jennifer Morrison, Bill Hammon (Deb Quintin) and Denise Hammon (Bill Sokol) and subsequently grandchildren Rebel Morrison (Bob Kuntz), Rebecca Baunton, Jodi Sutherland (Leif), Jessica Leong (Oliver), Matthew Tuttle and Jordan Eliuk. Then came the great grandchildren, Ash, Grace, Texas, Olivia, Luke, Xander and Charlotte, whom she loved more than life itself. Jean was also a kind and caring aunt to numerous nieces and nephews.

Not only was Jean a Teacher, but also a farmer’s wife and life was full. The “farm” became the place where all the family would congregate. Most Sundays the ‘city’ family would join us on the farm and music, laughter, food and cards would be enjoyed! Jean always had a huge meal prepared and if it wasn’t shared with family it would be enjoyed with the Paskals, our close family friends. Alice and Mike Paskal, Jean and Jerry became the best of friends and shared many Sundays and holidays together. Jean and Alice still cherished friends after 70 years.

At 98 years, Jean encountered much loss. Her parents, Archie and Etta Johnston, her husband Jerry, brothers Dick, Bill, son in law Richard (Tex) one week before her death, and her sister Boyne.

After the farm was sold, Jean returned to Lethbridge and enjoyed meeting new friends during her time at Waterton Village and spending hours at the keyboard accompanying the Golden Mile Singers. Wednesday mornings she could be found at Crazy Cakes folding boxes for Thursdays Spudnuts. Later she moved to BlackRock Manor and she and Alice were once again able to share meals. Adaptacare was her final home and she reveled in learning about her care givers, their culture and traditions. We are very grateful for the loving care with which they bestowed upon her.

At Jean’s request there will be no funeral, but a party at a later date. And the last words from Jean “Don’t be sad that I’m gone. Be glad that I was here.”

Flowers are gratefully declined. For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to school lunch programs or plant a tree for Jean.

LARSON

On Thursday August 27, the world lost a hero, father, and a great man. GORDON ALLAN LARSON passed away peacefully with “His Girls” by his side after a valiant battle with cancer. Gord’s legacy is carried on by his beloved wife Carrie, daughters Aspen Larson (Austin Piper) of Foremost and Mickyla Larson of Magrath, his sister Christine Larson of Magrath, brother Willard (Maureen) Larson of Lethbridge, father and brother in law Kirk and Codey Godlonton, among others to numerous to mention.

Gord was greeted with open arms and a cocktail by his parents Willard and Roberta Larson, sister Rowena (Stewart), and mother in law Judy Godlonton (Shaw).

Gord married the love of his life Carrie on April 11, 1998, and they began enjoying all the many things that Gord treasured together. Gord loved life, his girls, family and friends. Whether it was traveling to a beach, golfing, camping, or fishing, Gord always wanted those he cared about around to enjoy life with him.

Many were privileged to know Gord as “Uncle Booze”. You didn’t spend time with Uncle Booze without a drink in your hand and hearing a story or two. Gord always tried to make sure those around were having a good time and felt welcome. He went out of his way to make sure people he cared about never went without and knew he was there for them.

Gord will be missed but never forgotten. He touched the lives of everyone he met. At this time, the family asks that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. Cremation, with a private interment at a later date.
