LEVENNE

ROBERT DEWAYNE “WAYNE” LEVENNE beloved husband of Norma Levenne, passed away at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Wednesday, September 9, 2020 at the age of 83 years.

Wayne will be missed by his wife Norma of 65 years, sons Scott (Dawn) and Ken (Linda); and daughter Perry-Lynn Sturtevant (Darris); nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his son Terry and his parents.

One of Wayne’s enjoyments in life was raising and riding horses, and the Stirling Ridge Riders Gymhkana Club.

A Family Memorial will be held at a later date.

Joan Catherine (Fleming) Mackin

October 7th, 1949

– September 10th, 2020

Joan left us suddenly on September 10th, 2020 at the Chinook Regional Hospital. She devoted her life to others especially her “girls” Jessica and Haley.

Joan’s life started October 7th, 1949 in Lethbridge, Alberta, daughter of Grace and Jack Fleming. She married (and kept) Bob Mackin on August 14th, 1971 and had two sons. Rob on April 8th, 1976 and Tyson on July 4th, 1978. She (we) welcomed Angie Vogelaar in 1999 and Matthew Young in 2002 to our family.

Our thanks go to 911, the doctors, nurses and staff at the Chinook Regional Hospital.

No service will be held.

RING

HILARY RING (nee Routledge) passed away peacefully at home with her husband, Len, at her side. She was predeceased by her parents, Joe & Marie Routledge and is survived by her sister Glynis Wood of Calgary, Len (her husband of 50 years), their sons Travis (Kayla) of Nanton and Scott (Kim) of Lakeside Montana. She was also the loving and caring grandmother to Mason, Kelsie, Charlise, and Quaid.

Hilary was born in Sunderland, England and home was Seaham Harbour, County of Durham a typical coal-mining town in northern England. Marie and Joe were both veterans of the RAF in WWII and Joe was an electrician in the mine. The stiff upper lip British mentality and the “Keep Calm and Carry On” attitude that Marie & Joe instilled in Hilary would come to serve her well during her life. In 1955 they emigrated to Canada, first Joe and shortly thereafter Marie and the 2 girls. Joe worked at the Palliser Hotel and the Chateau Lake Louise but then became postmaster at Lake Louise, where Hilary spent the majority of her childhood. In 1965 they moved to High River where Hilary met her husband to be. Hilary and Len were married in 1970 and moved to Lethbridge, later Taber. In 1973 they moved to Raymond where they raised their family, moving back to Lethbridge in 1996.

Hilary was an accomplished, seamstress, quilter, and needlepoint artist and many people have wonderful homemade treasures to remember her by. But her greatest gift to the world was being a devoted wife and mother and later grandmother to those in her family. For about 40 years she was a great hockey Mom to her 2 sons and grandson Mason, then transitioned to being a volleyball Mom to Kelsie and Charlise and a multi-sport baseball/soccer/basketball Mom to Quaid.

In 1981 Hilary was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease but her wonderful British heritage never let that limit her. She and Len loved to travel and she was able to return to England and Sicily to visit relatives and see her old original home as well as take a long-anticipated RV road trip to PEI and back. She was able to cross those 2 and “get a Mercedes SL” off her bucket list.

Hilary was a hero to many she knew and will be missed by all. The girls from Raymond supported her all these years and she developed many warm relationships with the staff at the Movement Disorders Clinic in Calgary and more recently, the Wednesday group at the Bridges day program in Lethbridge.

A Funeral Service will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2825 – 32 Street South, Lethbridge, on Tuesday, September 22nd at 11:00 A.M., with Wally & Alison Chinn officiating. Hilary will be laid to rest in Mountain View Cemetery. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, kindly RSVP your attendance to Cornerstone. Seating will be limited to 90 guests. Facemasks are mandatory and will be available upon entry.

STILGOE

It is with overwhelming sadness we announce the passing of DAVID STILGOE of Lethbridge, beloved husband of Marie, on Sunday, August 30, 2020 at the age of 82 years.

David was born in South Devon, Fredericton, N.B. on March 6, 1938. He joined the Armed Forces in 1956 and this is where he met his loving and devoted wife, Marie. They married in 1958, settling in Lethbridge to begin their journey together. David worked on the family farm before joining the produce department at Safeway. Not long after, he followed his love for cars and launched his sales career selling cars starting at Beny’s car dealership and ending his sales career at College Ford in 2010 when he retired. David also had a passion for driving; whether it was as a tour bus driver or professional truck driver, he loved it all. He even raced stock cars with the SAAR (Southern Alberta Auto Racers) for a number of years. Many remember his red # 91; those were memorable times for the family. He was very proud to say that in all his years of driving, he held a perfect driving record. One of the most difficult times was when he had to give up his license due to Parkinson’s. He knew he was putting others at risk and would never forgive himself if he was to cause harm to anyone. That was the kind of man he was.

David was a kind and genuine man who made friends wherever he went. He loved having family and friends around, sharing stories and amazing food prepared by Marie. He had a love for country music and would spend hours listening to his favorite performers.

David will be forever loved and cherished by his wife Marie, as well as his children: Debbie Horvath (Mike), Robin Mills (Dorne) and Terry Stilgoe (Tania); his precious eight grandchildren: Cory (Jo), April (Anthony), Jayme (Dan), Dustin (Beth), Cody (Jami), Ty (Tianna), Levi (Kelly) and Brandon. He was also blessed with 11 great-grandchildren: Rylee, Taylor, Teeghyn, Reggie, Dawson, Tanner, Dominik, Peyton, Austin, Cru and Kami.

David will be sadly missed by his sister Nancy Squires (Bill) of N.B. and brothers-in-law Pat Bodnark (Margie) of B.C., and Mitch Bodnaruk (Diane) of Lethbridge, along with numerous nieces and nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Grace and Wesley Stilgoe and father-in-law John Bodnaruk.

A Private Family Celebration of David’s Life will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2020.

TAILFEATHERS

LESTER HARVEY TAILFEATHERS (Otahkoitaa) passed away peacefully surrounded by his children and loving wife, Virginia, on September 13, 2020. He was a strong and willful man, battling cancer for almost two decades had taken its toll on him. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Virginia. His children Esther (Bjarne), Bill (Laurie), Kelsey, Ann (Jake), and Jim (Brynne), 15 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren, his siblings Georgette Fox, Margaret Fox, and Rick (Sharon) Tailfeathers, and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by Nellie and Harvey Tailfeathers, his siblings Phillip, Gilbert, Lillian, Christine, his eldest son Darcy, and his eldest granddaughter Tara. Lester was born September 23, 1939 on the Blood Indian Reserve at the Indian Hospital to Nellie (nee Many Fingers/Yellow Creek) and Harvey Tailfeathers. He was also raised by his grandfather Tsakoyina (Fred) Tailfeathers and Suzette Eagle Ribs and his step-grandfather Tsiiyaa (Howard Hindman). He attended St. Paul’s Residential School and Jasper Place High School in Edmonton – where he was also a cadet. He was a gifted athlete and later he passed much of this onto many generations on the Blood Reserve. He was an avid learner throughout his life, he studied meteorology in Ottawa and took courses in business and management at Lethbridge Community College, but the learning never stopped.

Always a hard worker, he had many occupations over the years. He was a police officer on the Blood Reserve, a fruit picker in Washington, a supervisor at St. Paul’s Residential School, a Cardston School Board Trustee, Blood Tribe Recreation Director, a Blood Tribe Band Councillor, a housing contractor, and the operator of a gas station. Lester was a rancher for more than 60 years, managed the Blood Tribe Bus Co-op for 35 years, and he was passionately involved in the horse racing business for almost 20 years.

He volunteered his time coaching hockey, basketball, baseball, softball, and even gymnastics for over 40 years. An avid carpenter, he helped to build and renovate numerous homes over the years. He spent years of countless days working around the house and yard and could often be found on his riding lawn mower in his later years. He made an active effort to teach many young people these skills over the years. His most recent apprentice was his adopted grandson, Ace Black Plume.

Lester was a member of the Iitskinaiks (Horns Society) who respected and revered our traditional ways. He was a natural leader who was both generous and compassionate, forever a storyteller and a joker. He devoured books and was a fervent historian, always ready to share his knowledge with all. The family would like to thank the many physicians and health care practitioners who helped him over the years. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Kidney Foundation of Canada, and the Heart & Stroke Foundation. The Funeral Service will be held at Legacy Funeral Home, Cardston on Saturday, September 19th at 11:00 a.m. Interment in the St. Paul’s Cemetery, Blood Reserve.

 Brenda Louise Tanner, beloved wife of Lester Tanner, passed away in Taber on Saturday, September 12, 2020 at the age of 62 years.
