GANTZEL, Clara

October 9, 1921

– October 24, 2020

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Clara Gantzel at West Highlands Estate in Lethbridge, AB on October 24, 2020 at the age of 99 years. Clara will be lovingly remembered by her extended family: Joe and Marj Boxer; Felicia and Hudson Lamond; and Joe, Aimee, Ashton, and Reese Boxer. She was predeceased by her husband Ole Gantzel; her father Edwin Scheunert; mother Lydia Scheunert; sisters: Esther, Meta, and Edna; and her brothers: Edgar and Raymond. Clara was born in Trochu, AB and grew up on a farm just outside of town. She had to work very hard on the farm and there were many hardships trying to survive the depression years and the two world wars. She left home early to work and help send money back to the family. Clara and her sister Edna were waitresses at the Banff Springs Hotel. Clara took up skiing and was a natural and loved it. Clara and Edna then moved to Calgary to work as waitresses at the Petroleum Club. This is where Clara met her husband Ole who was a chef at the Club. They were married in Calgary in 1954 and later moved to Lethbridge where they bought into the Kentucky Fried Chicken franchise. One of her best memories was meeting Colonel Sanders. When they retired they took up golfing, where Clara had 3 holes-in-one at the Country Club. She lost her husband in February of 1997. She had no children but always wanted family. We are her extended family and Clara has been a part of our lives for 25 years. She will be sadly missed by everyone. We were fortunate to have known her and loved her dearly. Clara will be gone but never forgotten. May she rest in peace. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a private family service will be held.
