BLACK PLUME (WHITE MAN)

LEONA ROSLYN BLACK PLUME (WHITE MAN) “Kootonakii – Kootenay Woman” passed away in Lethbridge on December 20, 2020 at the age of 24 years.

A viewing will be held at the Legacy Funeral Home, in Cardston on Wednesday, December 30, 2020 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. with a Family Service to follow at 11:00 a.m. (Due to to COVID-19 – A limit of 10 people will be allowed in the building at a time.)

She was survived by her grandma Ramona White Man, her son Kenddrick Shouting, siblings Deanna (Randell), Ace (Sheree), Keenan, Micheal and Mariyah Black Plume

Leona attended Kainai, Levern school. Leona was employed at various places doing cleaning, housekeeping and odd jobs on the Rez.

Leona was very artistic and creative. She liked to cook, specialized in beading and art work. She met new friends from all over and she was a friendly hard worker. Through her love of music during her younger years, it gave Leona the opportunity to sing with Olivia Tailfeathers and the Grass Root Singers.

Leona was very humble, quiet, friendly and generous, especially towards her siblings. Leona has many friends all over in Moses Lake. She comes from a large extended family such as Black Plume’s, Calf, Sun Walk, Many Bears, Scalplock, Sleigh, White Elks and White Eagle from Siksika Nation, White man, Healy, White Bull, Old Person, Heavy Runner, Davis, Gladstone, Hind Bull, Spotted Bulls, Mountain Horse and Across The Mountain, Big Sorell Horse, Creightons, Wolf Childs, and Birds to mention.

Leona was predeceased by her parents, Tama White Man (Black Plume) and Marvin Bird. Brothers, Richard Jr. White Man (Black Plume), Darcy Black Plume, Daynin Healy, Lesly Ann and Myron Wolf Child. Grandfather Reggie Black Plume, Grandmother Bella Wolf Child and Virginia Big Sorrell Horse and Leona White Man (Calf), and Grandfather Ricky White Man Sr.

Survived by Great Grandfather Reggie White Man, Aunties Gloria (Randy Jim), Margaret Across the Mountain, (Ron) Mary Ann Shouting Across The Mountain, Uncles James, Norbert, Joe Across The Mountain, Robert and Rita Calf, Melvin and Christine White man, Patrick White Man and Auntie Linda and Greg Fox, and Auntie Mary Rose Many Chief, Aunties Noreen, Trina, Hope, Donna and Uncle Elden, Jimmy Black Plume.

Terrance (Terry) (Ted) Alexander Garrett beloved wife of Doris (Alojado) passed away December 25th, 2020 at the age of 90. Along with Doris his wife of 32 years, Ted is survived by his 4 children from his first wife; Michael Garrett, Rev. Kathryn Knox McClellan, Timothy (Ossi) Garrett, Stephen (Dorothy) Garrett, 8 grand children & 10 great-grandchildren. A private (Covid restricted) interment service was held (officiated by Ted’s daughter Rev. Kathyrn) on December 29th, 2020. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Westview Care Commumity, Box 220, Linden AB, T0M 1J0.

Bertha Huisman

April 14, 1957 – December 27, 2020

Bertha Huisman, soul mate of Adrie Huisman passed away suddenly on December 27th after a short battle with cancer at the age of 63 years.

Bertha is survived by her loving family, son Alex (Coranda) and daughters Simone, Emma, Lauren, Rose and Paisley, her daughter José (David) and daughters Krista, Alissa, Megan and Nataya.

She was born on April 14th, 1957 in Ruinen the Netherlands where she lived with her parents and 5 siblings. She married her soul mate on May 5th, 1978. They lived in Scheerwolde where their two children were born until 1991 and moved to a farm until 1994. Then they moved to Canada and started the family farm.

She loved to dance with her soul mate, taking home several awards. She supported her family in all their activities, from triathlons, skating, and later all her granddaughters’ activities.

Spoiling granddaughters was her favourite. She loved traveling with Adrie to visit family and friends in the Netherlands and places to soak up the sun. For their 35th and 40th anniversary they bravely took all the kids and granddaughters to Mexico and Disneyland. They could not go unnoticed with that many girls.

Carl Norman Nelson

18 Feb 1932 – 25 Dec 2020

Carl passed away at the Vulcan Community Health Center on Christmas Day, 2020. He was predeceased by his parents, Carl Bernhardt Nelson (Charlie) 1952 and Cecilia Christina (Sis) Sullivan 1981; his wife of 54 years Raema Lee Burke 2011; daughter Carolyn Louise Thompson 2008; son Cody Merlin Nelson 2015; sisters Hilda Christina Johnsson and Lorraine Cecilia Spencer. Raised in the Travers area on the ditch camp of the day, Carl’s childhood was immensely unique, influenced by many colourful characters that assisted his dad creating much of the irrigation system that remains today. Carl’s profession was a traveling salesman and was a Watkins dealer for over 50 years. His travels covered all parts of Southern Alberta and to this day remains a permanent fixture in the memories of those rural families and Hutterite colonies that he visited every week. As an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, birdwatching and gardening. In the early years Carl was a Fireman with the Canadian Pacific Railway and an Apprentice Mechanic. He wrestled as a young man and enjoyed all sports, but was especially fond of Golf, Curling, Baseball and Hockey. The last 13 years Carl resided at the Vulcan Community Health Centre. A sincere and grateful thank you to all the doctors, hospital and caring nursing staff and the many visitors who provided excellent care and companionship over the years. Survivors include daughters Carla Rae(David)Kennedy, Cynthia Darlene(Joel)Deans, son Cole Bernhardt(Tracy)Nelson and former spouses of previously deceased children, Patti Abel (Cody), David Thompson (Carolyn) and; grandchildren Brian Thompson, Jennifer(Neufeld) and Sharleen Thompson, Shanna Abel, Kayla(Bosch), Kirsten and Kolten Nelson, Nigel, Devan and Aidan Deans, Charley and Sadie Nelson; 13 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild; brother-in-law Bertil Johnsson; sisters-in-law Carolyn Dumka Burke and Beryl Leonard Burke and many nieces and nephews.

Sussanne Marie Marjorie O’Rourke (Wiley)

1959 – 2020

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Sussanne O’Rourke at the age of 61 years. Sussanne passed away on Friday, December 18, 2020 at Chinook Regional Hospital due to COVID related complications.

Sussanne was a strong willed and loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend to all that knew her. She was always willing to help others and was open minded to new adventures and ideas.

She was predeceased by her mother Jeanette and sister Debbie.

She leaves behind her husband Blaise Sr; her sons Blaise Jr. and Tyler; daughter Roseann; father Robert; sisters Christine and Elizabeth and brother Robert.

A private family service will take place at a later date.
