BACZUK

DAVID TROY BACZUK passed away in Calgary March 1, 2021 at the age of 55. He will be missed by his parents Louie and Sandra Baczuk, siblings Mark (Deb), Michelle (Kevin), Robin (Luke), Steven, and Cajsa (Dan). And his nieces and nephews, whom he adored without measure: Miranda, Ben, Josh, Shelby, Colten, Nic, Trenton, Liam, Liev, and Ava.

Troy had been able to fill in some of his family tree and was overjoyed to connect with his birth family. He welcomed them into his life and had a wonderful loving relationship with them. He will be missed by Rhonda Gwin, his birth mother and his siblings David Gwin (deceased) and his sister Kelly Gwin-Durocher.

Troy was most happy 30,000 feet above the ground. He worked most of his life in the airline industry. He made many lifelong friends. And if you’ve ever worked with him you understand…

“I’m not like other flight attendants…I will hit you”

If you ever needed anything done, Troy was first in line to help. He loved good food; and prepping for family dinners was his specialty. But don’t ever leave him alone in the kitchen…he loved to spice things up!

Waterton had a very special place in Troy’s heart as a retreat and an oasis of peace. He would park his trailer, smell the mountain air and read endless books. He loved a roaring campfire and the simplicity of a meal cooked over an open flame.

If you’ve ever received one of his rib crushing hugs, you knew you were loved unconditionally. He loved with all his heart. All his family and friends knew that. Troy, we love you. We would give anything for just one more of those hugs.

In lieu of flowers please make a donation on his behalf to: Canadian Mental Health Association – cmha.ca, Egale Canada – Egale.ca

A Private Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, March 7th at 2:00 p.m.

FICUR

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of FILOMENA ANGELINA FICUR on Wednesday, February 24th at the Coaldale Health Centre, at the age of 84.

Angelina was born in Sessano Del Molise, Italy on June 26, 1936. She immigrated to Canada in 1958 and settled down in Readymade, Alberta before moving into Lethbridge. She is predeceased by the love of her life and husband of 55 years, Lino. She is also predeceased by her father, Emilio Iafrancesco, her mother, Carmela Iafrancesco (nee Giacchetta), her brother Palmerino Iafrancesco, her sister Antonietta Kern, brother-in-law Joseph Kern, brother-in-law Riccardo Ficiur, brother-in-law Giuseppe Antonelli, and nephew, Rob Kern. She is survived by her sister, Annina Antonelli, her nieces, Lina, Marilena, Juliana and Dora, and her nephews Dave and Mike, as well as her sister-in-law Iolanda Ficiur and nieces Esperanza and Cinzia in Italy. She is also survived by several other extended family members and many friends she made throughout her life in Italy and here in Canada.

Although Angelina never had children of her own, she loved kids and worked with them in Italy for several years. When she arrived in Canada, she began working as a nanny before getting a job at Catelli’s in Lethbridge where she worked up until her retirement. She married Lino on July 29, 1961, and together they built three houses and remodeled a one-hundred-year-old house. In between the builds and remodels, Angelina would often travel back to Italy with Lino to celebrate and reconnect with family whom she cared so much for, even with the great distance between them.

She will be sadly missed but fondly remembered for her love of gardening, her great fried chicken, and the care and compassion she showed towards everyone. She cared so deeply for all of her family and friends and always cautioned everyone to be careful and call her as soon as they were back at home safe so that she knew they were okay. She was also quick to offer you any kind of snack or drink she could when you visited to make sure you felt welcomed and cared for.

Angelina was laid to rest next to her husband Lino in a private service.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alberta Cancer Foundation (www.albertacancer.ca/donate/)

WAYNE HOLLAND

July 12, 1926 – February 25, 2021

On Thursday, February 25th, while he was enjoying his regular afternoon nap at his home in Calgary, Wayne Holland quietly slipped through the veil to meet his parents, Ruby and Josiah (Mike) Holland; son, Stewart; sisters, Wanda McKean and Nadine Brown; daughter-in-law, Debra (Donick) Holland and son-in-law James Olson.

Wayne was born and grew up with six siblings in Raymond, Alberta, where he attended school and served a short time in the Canadian Army. He met his wife Joyce Lindseth in Raymond and they were married in 1947. They moved to Taber in 1949 where Wayne was employed at the new Roger’s Sugar Company plant for their first sugar making run in 1950. He worked for this employer until his retirement.

During retirement years, Wayne built and equipped a woodworking shop in his back yard in Taber, where he taught himself the art of woodworking, making many beautiful projects for his family and the neighbors over the years. During this time, he and Joyce turned their time to working at the LDS Alberta Temple at Cardston where they made many more friends. With family grown and as empty nesters in 2002, they moved to Lethbridge and began travelling, usually with their kids, and visited many interesting countries in the world. When health issues became problematic, Wayne and Joyce opted to move to Calgary to St. Marguerite Manor.

Wayne is survived by his wife of 73 years, Joyce; their children, Douglas (Valarie Shockey), Phillip (Heather Boyle), Michael, Stephanie (Darrel) Orr, Wendy (Robert) Krause, Sandra, Karen; 21 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. The family wishes to thank the care givers at St. Marguerite’s Manor for their patient and compassionate care of our husband and father. Your kindness to Wayne was very much appreciated.

Due to Covid restrictions there will be no service at this time. Cremation has been entrusted to Choice Memorial Cremation and Funeral Services. To view and share photos, condolences and stories of Wayne please visit http://www.choicememorial.com.
