BOULTON

Dec. 21, 1961 – Mar. 15, 2021

ROBERT BOULTON passed away in Calgary on Monday, March 15, 2021, after a valiant effort for his life, at the age of 59 years old.

Rob is survived by his son Andrew Barker and mother Frieda Boulton, both of Lethbridge; four sisters: Linda (Ed) Klima of Lethbridge, Karen (Doug) LaValley of Calgary, Brenda Boulton (John Weber) of Waterloo ON and Anna Lee Boulton (Anton Glukhovsky) of Vancouver, BC.

He was predeceased by his father George “Bud” Boulton in 2011.

We remember Robert as a likeable, friendly and good-natured person. He loved golfing, (and was good at it, single handicap), water skiing and was fun-loving in general. He was a great cook and a real Foodie! He was accomplished in his career in the oil patch holding a fourth class engineer’s certificate for pressure equipment. Then as work slowed in the summer, he completed training and received his certification as a swimming pool operator. He was an integral part of maintaining the acreage where he lived with his mother.

He will be missed by his many relatives and friends in the farming community who all have relayed stories of how Rob had impacted their lives. Dear friends who golfed and travelled with him will miss his bright smile and keen wit.

Remembering you is easy, we do it every day. Missing you is a Heartache that never goes away!

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a private viewing was held by invitation. Cremation was entrusted to Cornerstone Funeral Home.

Condolences and memories maybe shared and viewed on Rob’s obituary on the Cornerstone website.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Stars Air Ambulance (stars.ca/ways-to-donate/ab/), Lander Treatment Centre (c/o Claresholm and District Heath Foundation – Contact Tara 403-682-3739) or to the charity of your choice.

McGINTY

CATHERINE “CATHIE” McGINTY, beloved wife of the late James “Jim” McGinty, of Lethbridge, passed away peacefully at the Edith Cavell Care Centre, on Saturday, April 3, 2021 at the age of 86 years.

Cathie is lovingly remembered by her sisters Sadie McCarthy and Phyllis Alexander as well as her niece Katrina Whittingham in Scotland and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family in Canada, Scotland, England, Australia and Spain.

Along with her husband Jim, she was predeceased by her parents, George and Bridget Tracey and sisters, Margaret Tracey and Georgina “Ina” McIntyre.

Cathie was born in Glasgow, Scotland in 1934, the 4th daughter to Bridget and George and younger sister to Sadie and Ina. 19 months after Cathie, the family became complete with another girl, Phyllis. Unfortunately in 1927, her parents had already suffered the loss of their 5 year old daughter, Margaret. Further tragedy struck the family in 1942 with the sudden death of Cathie’s father, George.

Life was challenging for the Tracey family, but they all pulled together and worked hard, to allow Cathie and Phyllis to finish school and gain employment. Life began to change for Cathie in 1952 when she met her one true love, James McGinty. Their courtship was cemented in marriage on 15th February 1954 and they began their married life in the small family flat in the east end of Glasgow, close to both their families. Cathie and Jim progressed in their jobs in Glasgow and enjoyed an active social life with friends/family.

In 1964 they made the decision for a better future and followed Cathie’s sisters, Phyllis and Sadie to Canada. All three sisters began to settle into Lethbridge life. In her first week, Cathie found a job in The Municipal Hospital as a medical secretary with the support of post school qualifications and excellent references from her Scottish employers.

Despite finding employment easy, Cathie found it hard to settle in what was rural Lethbridge of 1964, having moved from the bustling city of Glasgow. Cathie was often homesick for Scotland, but ultimately Jim convinced Cathie, Canadian life was for better for them. Her mother, sister, Ina and her extended family also made frequent trips to visit their ‘Canadian‘ family. The last visit ‘Gran Tracey’ made was in 1983 at 87 years old! So, distance did not stop the family from remaining close in their hearts.

Cathie had a successful career in secretarial and administration work in the Agriculture Research Station in Lethbridge. She was a respected colleague, member of her local church and friend to many. Cathie enjoyed hobbies such as square dancing, crafting, fishing, travel, baking, entertaining and loved shopping with a passion! She tolerated Jim’s love of hockey!

After retirement, Cathie initially became an active church volunteer, however in time, she endured several health concerns which curtailed her ability to volunteer or remain active in her local community. More recent debilitating health concerns led to the difficult decision for her husband Jim to seek the assistance of Edith Cavell Care Centre in the provision of her care. Up until his death in May 2020, he remained absolutely devoted to Cathie, visiting three times a day, every day. They both grew to trust in the care provided by Edith Cavell’s staff, who remained compassionate and dedicated until the end of Cathie’s life.

Cathie led a full beautiful life, overcoming early tragedies and challenges. She was a dignified lady with a formidable presence. Her personal area of life fulfilment appeared to be in her 66 year marriage to Jim and even though death separated them last year, Cathie’s Eastertide death will have brought them back together, God willing.

A Prayer Service will be held on Friday, April 9, 2021 at 7:00 P.M. with Francis and Cybele Noronha officiating.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, April 10, 2021 at 1:00 P.M. with Father Kevin Tumback celebrating. Both services will be live streamed and may be accessed via Cathie’s obituary on the Cornerstone website.

BRENT ALLEN SORGE

November 24th, 1974 – April 3rd, 2021

Brent Allen Sorge, beloved son, father, brother, and friend died on Saturday, April 3rd. Left to mourn his passing are his daughters Raven Scott Sorge (Vince Knight) and Nella Sorge, his mother JoAnn St. John (Ian Hepher), his father Allen Sorge (Mary Ann), his sister Robyn Sorge (Christen Dokk Smith) and niece Freyja, his brother Kevin Sorge (Brittany) and nephew Max.

His step-brothers Robin Hepher (Corinne Theissen) and Skye, and Michael Hepher (Anie) and Finn and Theo will also mourn his passing. Brent belonged to a huge extended family, and had a large circle of friends, who are all deeply saddened by this loss.

Brent was a man like no other. To quote some of his many friends, he had a fire and passion that burned brightly, yet always seemed to be one step away from his own happiness. He championed the downtrodden and was never at a loss to share his heart…or his opinion.

Growing up, Brent loved being with family and friends. Brent comes from two large loving families and learned early in life about the importance of connection. He forged deep and meaningful friendships that supported him through many struggles and adversity.

At a young age he developed a love of music which came to be his life-long passion. It was through music that Brent found his greatest expression and deepest joy, outside of his daughters. He was a die-hard Oilers fan, to which many of his friends can attest.

Brent had a brilliant mind and a heart that loved fiercely, yet he struggled with everyday life.

Rest in power, Brent. You are loved. And you will be missed.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Mental Health Programs at the Lethbridge Family Ties Association (www.familyties.ca). Due to current restrictions, a private celebration of immediate family is being held on Friday, April 9th. A “Celebration of Life” honouring Brent will be held later this summer, depending on COVID restrictions. Condolences can be sent to http://www.evergreenfh.ca

DR. ALLEN F. TRAUTMAN, beloved husband of Geri Medwid Trautman, cherished father of Victoria (Ryan) Becker, and Mike (Dayna) Trautman, and joyful grandfather of Jayde Trautman, passed away peacefully at the Chinook Regional Hospital, on Sunday, April 4th, 2021 at the age of 68 years. He fought a valiant battle with cancer, but the Lord chose to take him.

He is also survived by his siblings and their children: Carol (Don) Simpson, Jane (Mike) Faught, Odean (Charlotte) Trautman, Tim Trautman, Danny (Jody Wilkes) Trautman, Peggy (Bob) MacTaggart and sister-in-law Joy Trautman (Dave deceased).

Allen was born September 13, 1952, in Camrose, Alberta to Mary and Stan Trautman. He was raised in New Norway and went on to do his pre-med at Camrose Lutheran College on a hockey scholarship. He proceeded on to the U of A (Edmonton) for medical school. With his new bride, he then went to St. John’s, Newfoundland for his internship. His calling was in General Surgery, a fellowship he completed at the U of A.

Upon completion of his internship, Lethbridge was chosen for their new home. Allen felt he had the best job in the world, healing people. Many were touched by his skills. He was humbled when the Pikanii Nation honoured him with his name: Otoyasis (sacred/healing sticks). His passion for horsemanship, which he shared with his children, got him involved with 4-H, rodeo, team penning, team roping and ranching.

Ranching (his second job) took him to the Porcupine Hills; a place he loved. He also had a passion for “armed wildlife viewing”. Many hours were spent hunting with his children, brothers and nephews.

Doc will be sorely missed. He loved life and embraced the joys of it.
