PAZIUK

Aug. 4, 1926 – May 20, 2021

ANNE MARY PAZIUK, beloved wife of the late Nick “Mikolaj” Paziuk and mother to Richard Paziuk, of Lethbridge, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours with her son at her side, at the Chinook Regional Hospital of congestive heart failure, on Thursday, May 20, 2021 at the age of 94 years. She had fought and defeated Covid -19 and a number of problems arising therefrom and seemed well on the road to recovery yet again but the demands on her body were simply too great over the past two days.

In addition to her son Richard, Anne is survived by numerous nieces and nephews in Europe.

Anne was born in France and after the War, met Nick who became her lifelong love. They emigrated to Canada in 1950 to start a new life and endured many hardships in their new home. Nick eventually secured employment with Agriculture Canada, where he served for 31 years before retirement. Anne, in addition to making “home” a place of joy, held various secretarial and retail positions until Nick’s retirement in 1984, at which time they both enjoyed their life together gardening, camping, travelling the world and enjoying the fruits of their labours. Hawaii with close friends was their winter reprieve and a source of great comfort and many stories.

When Nick was stricken with Alzheimer’s and settled at St Michael’s Health Centre, Anne gave up their first and only family home in Lethbridge to move to Martha’s House, so she could be close to Nick and visit him when possible. When Nick passed away in 2008, Anne found her new family at Martha’s House and though the faces may have changed, she knew she was cared for and among friends. A very special thanks to the management and staff of Martha’s House for their care, love and concern for Anne over the years and to the residents she was pleased to call her extended family. You are all very special people and were in Anne’s thoughts to the very end.

Special thanks as well to the doctors, nurses and staff of CRH unit 5B who made Anne well enough to enjoy a too brief visit home in late April and to the various other units who cared for her throughout her time at the CRH. Your professionalism and compassion went far to make the best of a very difficult time and allowed Anne to pass on with peace and dignity.

Mom, you fought a long hard fight and kept a positive attitude to the bitter end. I know you are at peace now and with Dad and the rest of the family gone before. The memory of you and the life you both gave me will sustain me but you will be greatly missed. You were my anchor and my best friend. You will live in my heart forever.

At Anne’s request, no service will be held. Cremation has been entrusted to Cornerstone Funeral Home. Anne’s ashes will be spread as were Nick’s, so they will be reunited again.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Anne’s name to Diabetes Canada (diabetes.ca/donate), The MS Society of Canada (mssociety.ca/donate) or a charity of your choice.

PENN

BILL PENN, beloved husband of the late Frances Penn, of Lethbridge, passed away at St. Therese Villa, on Friday, May 14, 2021, at the age of 92 years.

Bill is survived by his loving children: Debrah (Barry) Scott, Ed (Michele) Penn and Larry (Susan) Penn; grandchildren: Kyle (Christy) Penn, and Kristen (Brian) MacInnis; and great-grandchildren: Lola Penn and Quinn MacInnis.

Bill was predeceased by his loving wife Frances Rayko Penn; parents Alice and William Penn of Claresholm; sister Angeline Penn Summerfield and brother Andy Penn.

Bill believed, what the mind could conceive, the hands could achieve. He was a master at anything mechanical, building his first car from parts he could find and maturing to a first-class auto mechanic and service manager. He was also a master at woodworking, building his parents beautiful new kitchen cabinets and many other projects all from the pictures in his head. Bill had a huge garage filled with professional grade tools in his backyard, which was the backbone of his sons’ education. It was a wonderland for friends of all ages, especially because Bill shared his talents with everyone who showed an interest.

Bill was a huge fan of Honda’s Gold Wing Motorcycles. He owned a large number of these motorcycles. He prided himself on riding at least one day of every month of the year. Bill treasured the many and varied friends he made among motorcycle enthusiasts.

Bill loved to visit with good friends at Dairy Queen and at the Fairmont McDonald’s Restaurant, where the troubles of the world were discussed and solved. Many of those folks remained in his memory for years.

Bill fought long and hard to face the challenges that came his way. At this time, we’d like to thank his caregivers at St. Therese Villa for their loving attention, and to the staff at Chinook Regional Hospital for their efforts.

The family will hold a Celebration of Life at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, friends who desire may wish to honour Bill’s love of animals with a donation to the Lethbridge and District Humane Society (2920 – 16 Avenue North, Lethbridge, AB, T1H 5E9).

The family immigrated to San Diego, CA in 1984 becoming dual citizens. Sharon was very involved with their golf club as well as volunteering with Assistance League and co-authoring a cookbook. STRATE

The Lord has called back one of his angels. SARAH MADISON STRATE, was born May 30, 2003 at the Lethbridge Regional Hospital and passed away April 26, 2021 at the Lethbridge Regional Hospital at the age of 17.

She lived in Magrath her entire life and was in Gr. 12 at Magrath High School. She loved to sing, dance, act, go for walks and bike rides, play soccer and for the past two years sang with the Raymond Show Choir (as MHS doesn’t have one). She loved going to Waterton.

Sarah had a zest for life and would be a friend to everyone she could. She recognized those that felt isolated and alone and reached out with nonjudgmental love and concern. You almost never saw her without a smile. She was always going out of her way to say hello to everyone she could, no one was an outsider to Sarah. She was a leader in the school’s “Hope Squad.” Hope Squad is a peer-to-peer suicide prevention program. Hope Squad members are nominated by their classmates as trustworthy peers and trained by advisors. She had been selected by peers her last four years to help them, and help them she did. Many nights she was out walking, talking with anyone that needed help. Oh how Sarah loved to serve. She only stood 5’5 but would stand up to any bully’s and did her best to make the world a better place.

She was a good student and always did well in school. She was trained as a lifeguard and loved working with youth and children. She babysat for many families in Magrath and had a gift with little children instantly loving her. The past few months she worked at Roosters Grocery Store in Magrath and loved it! Sarah loved welcoming and serving people with a smile! She worked hard and wanted to make sure everyone left the store with a smile.

She was an accomplished musician. She was on Level 8 of her Royal Conservatory with Piano. It pained her when covid shut down the Show Choir and school plays. She loved to perform. She had performed in the Kiwanis Music Festival as well. This past Remembrance Day she sang at the Town of Magrath Cenotaph Service to honour our heroes.

She was spiritually mature and had a strong testimony of Jesus Christ. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She loved the temple and the scriptures. She knew the Plan of Salvation and that families can be together forever. We know we will be reunited with her again someday. Sarah will always be an example of strength, confidence, faith, courage and unconditional love. She truly was trying to be like Jesus!

Sarah is survived by her parents Ron and Kristine Strate of Magrath. Twin brothers Dawson (Ashlyn) and son Bryden in Magrath, Derek (Cassidy) in Provo, Utah; Miranda (boy friend Rhys) in Lethbridge; and Bree at home in Magrath. Grandma Faye French of Lethbridge, Grandpa and Grandma Rick and Reva Strate of Magrath. Many aunts and uncles on the French and Strate side. Many cousins that loved her so much. She was predeceased by grandpa Ed French, cousin Sean Court, great grandma Jeana Stanford, great grandpa Fred Strate and great grandma Harriet Strate. Then on May 1, her nephew, Easton Derek Strate was stillborn in Idaho Falls. We are sure that Sarah was there to welcome him into the afterlife.

A Private Family Service will be held at Legacy Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 25 at 1:00 pm. Following the service, a private graveside service will be held for family at the Magrath Cemetery. The Service will be Live Streamed for those wishing to view.
