HATTON

The Hatton family sadly announces the passing of their dear Mother, Grandmother and Great-grandmother, MARJORIE HATTON, on Thursday, June 10, 2021.

Marj enjoyed life to the fullest, and lived a life filled with people and activities she loved. Her vibrant personality drew those around her close and she always wore a smile. She was born on January 3, 1932 in Claresholm, Alberta to Ellen and Ronald Hahn. In 1942, the family relocated to a farm south of Fort Macleod. Marj married her high school sweetheart, Leonard Hatton in 1951 and together they raised 3 daughters and a son in Fort Macleod. Marj was a wonderful mother and her greatest joy was spending time with her family, and singing to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Her many talents included music, singing, cooking, gardening, sewing, knitting, researching family history, and old time dancing.

She had a remarkable ability to rally and motivate people to participate in projects to enhance the community.

Mom loved to play cards, visit and entertain family and friends who were always welcome and everyone remembers happy times singing around the piano with Marj. Her home was always filled with Love, Laughter and Music.

She had many longstanding friendships and was always willing to assist others with her wisdom, humor and compassion.

Marj valued community service and worked tirelessly for a variety of organizations. She went door to door raising money to help save the historic Empress Theatre and helped paint and refurbish it. She was the Co-founder and Past President of the Fort Macleod and District Allied Arts Council and was instrumental in bringing theatre productions, musical groups, The Children’s Festival and the Christmas Craft Sale to Macleod.

Marj also assisted with the Fort Macleod History books, and was a founding member of the Sew Sew club, and Fort Players Society, and she spent endless hours completing grant applications for these organizations. Her energy, determination and positivity were inspiring. The Allied Arts Council honored Marj with the Lescarbot Award in 1993.

While raising her children Marj did the books for the family business, taught piano lessons, Sunday School and volunteered at the United Church. She was an accomplished musician and played the piano and the organ, and was known for her beautiful singing voice. Mom loved camping, and fishing with her family and could always come up with gourmet type meals at the campsite.

Marj and Len liked to experience new places and traveled through Canada, the US, Europe, Australia, Hawaii and the Bahamas, and enjoyed golfing with family and friends whenever and wherever they could.

Marj had a wonderful sense of humor and a delightful laugh that lit up the room. Mom bravely contested the onslaught of Alzheimer’s disease with her sense of humor, and despite her infirmities, she lived with singing and gusto.

She was a resident of the West Highland’s dementia cottage for several years, and Marj and her family wish to express their heartfelt thanks to the dedicated staff in the cottage who surrounded Mom with expertise, kindness, compassion and love. We sincerely appreciate all the wonderful things they did for Mom, and we are forever grateful.

Left to treasure the memories of her precious life are her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren: Wanda (Ken) HUTTON, daughter Emily and great-grandchildren Jackson and Chloe BOUTLAND; Claire HATTON, sons Judd McNAB (Kristen Brown) and Grayson McNAB; Lynette (Gary) BOYCE, daughters Brianne Boyce, Blakeley (Patrick) O’SHAUGHNESSY, Great-granddaughter Isla; Brent (Susan) HATTON; Sister Ronalda (Bill) Greenway, Brother Robert (Lynn) Hahn, and many cherished nieces, nephews and cousins.

Marj was predeceased by her beloved husband Len in 2010, her parents Ellen and Ronald Hahn, and her in-laws Emily and Walter Hatton, Albert and Lillian Hatton, Olive and Gower Kennedy, Kathleen and Duncan (Red) Kennedy, and Ethel and Jack Harris.

Due to the COVID restrictions there will not be a memorial service. A small family Celebration of Life will be held in Marj’s honor.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Lethbridge.
