Ferguson, Arnie Wayne

October 4, 1951 – July 19, 2021

It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of Arnie Ferguson. He was everyone’s favourite coworker, sports coach, spectator, and friend.

Arnie will be forever remembered by his wife and best friend of 49 years, Jean. He was a wonderful father to his daughter Stephanie van Rijn; as well as his sons, Ryan (Tara) Ferguson and Dave (Crystal) Ferguson. Arnie adored his grandchildren, Riley Ferguson, Kayden van Rijn, Kyler van Rijn, Nolan Ferguson, and Ripken Ferguson. He will be missed by his travelling partners, Sharon and Monty Anderson; as well as many other nieces, nephews, family members and friends.

Arnie had many devotions and passions through life. He enjoyed traveling around the province for the grandchildren’s hockey games and creating excuses to visit and have fun with them. He loved his Grand-Dogs, especially making them gourmet breakfasts. To anyone who would listen, Arnie would talk enthusiastically about his love for his children’s sports, golfing, fishing, collecting coins, painting and renovating, plus spending any time outdoors, especially to Gold Springs and Waterton.

As much as he loved retirement, he worked hard for over 45 years as a sheet metal fabricator. He was passionate about his job and proud to pass along his knowledge and skills to his sons.

To those who knew Arnie, he always referred to his age as chapters in a book. On Thursday, July 22, 2021, our family will gather to begin to close the last chapter of ‘The Book of Arnie’. Cremation has taken place, and he will be laid to rest in Royal View Cemetery, Lethbridge, AB near the walking trails he journeyed with Jean for many years.

In lieu of flowers, for those who wish, donations may be made to STARS Air Ambulance, or to the Canadian Diabetes Association.
