ALEBAKIS

TERRY ALEBAKIS, at the age of 82, passed away on Saturday, September 4th, 2021. Beloved husband and best friend of Aurelia. He was also a loving brother, uncle, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who will never be forgotten.

Born in Polypotamos, Greece, he made his way to Lethbridge in 1973, where he opened A-1 Submarine until his retirement. The world lost a kind man. A charming, gentle soul that was ready to help anyone in need and made friends easily. He will be missed.

A public Funeral Service will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2825 – 32 Street South, Lethbridge, on Friday, September 10th, at 11:00 A.M., with Reverend Father Taras Krochak officiating. Private interment will follow. Facemasks are mandatory and will be available upon entry.

Roland Joseph Barber

Staff Sergeant (Ret’d)

Roland passed away in St. Michael’s Palliative Care on September 3, 2021, at the age of 83.

Left to mourn him are his wife of 60 years, Gloria (Landers), son Braum with his wife Mary Matsushita, daughter Leah and grandchildren Quinn Barber, Raene Barber (Jay) and Kylar Marriott (Brianna).

Roland was born in Weyburn, Sask. August 17, 1938 to Wilbur and Helen Barber. He joined the RCMP in 1958 and served in Burnaby, New Westminster and Coquitlam in B.C.; then at Headquarters Ottawa; RCMP Training Depot in Regina; RCMP Senior Training in Ottawa; Pincher Creek Detachment; and Lethbridge Subdivision.

He earned his B.Sc. at Great Falls University in Montana and taught in the Criminal Justice Program at Lethbridge College.

Roland and Gloria travelled to many parts of the world and throughout Canada and the United States.

Roland was an active member of the RCMP Vets serving in all the executive positions and many committees. He was a member of the National Association of Federal Retirees and the International Police Association. He volunteered for many other organizations.

Roland had a life well lived!

Anna Krahn
1926 – 2021

 Anna Krahn, beloved wife of the late David Krahn, passed away in Coaldale on Sunday, September 5, 2021 at the age of 94 years.
 Those who wish to pay their respects may do so at the funeral home prior to the funeral service on Saturday, September 11, 2021 between 1:00 P.M. and 1:45 P.M.

 She was predeceased by her husband David, daughters Mary and Judy, her parents Isaac and Anna Dyck, four brothers and two sisters.
 For the past eight years Anna has been living and cared for at the Sunny South Lodge in Coaldale. Prior to deteriorating health dictating her move, she was a happy resident of Taber and a faithful attender at the Evangelical Free Church.
 As a family, we are relieved for her that she has been released from an ailing mind and body, yet we remember her with fondness and are saddened by her passing.

Harold May

July 7, 1951 ~ September 3, 2021

It is with a heavy heart that Connie announces that her beloved husband, Harold George May, passed away at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital on Friday, September 3, 2021, at the age of 70 years. Along with Connie, Harold will be lovingly remembered by their children, Wendy (Pat) Furlong, Scott (Line) May and Corey (Brandi) May; grandchildren, Rachel and Emma Furlong; McKenzie Trent and Reece, Emily and Jayla May; siblings, Garry May, Gail (Lorn) Cook, Gayle May, Marilyn (Ray) Cradduck and Colleen (Monty) Kunz; brothers-in-law, Ross (Shanon) Anderson and Terry Anderson as well as his sister-in-law, Andrea Anderson (Randy Rota). Harold was predeceased by his parents, Walter and Norma May; brother, Garth; brother-in-law, Robert; sister-in-law, Leona May as well as parents-in-law, Melvin and Rachel Anderson. Harold was born, raised and educated in Taber, AB. In his younger years, he could be found on the ice as he also played hockey in Taber. Harold married Connie Anderson on August 25, 1973, in Barnwell and they made Lethbridge their home for many years. Harold started his career at Ireco Irrigation in 1971 and then worked for Oliver Irrigation before buying the store in Medicine Hat in 1993. After he bought the store, he changed it to C&H Irrigation. Harold recently retired celebrating 50 years working in irrigation! He was a hard worker who liked to play tricks and make up stories for his grandkids. Playing cards with his friends and grandkids while adjusting the rules was one of Harold’s favourite pastimes! He also enjoyed golf, hunting, traveling, camping and special trips with the boys to golf and to watch Corey’s football games. You could always find Harold watching golf and WWE wrestling on TV after a hard days work. He was a strong supporter of 4-H clubs and stood behind all that they believed in. Harold’s most memorable occasions were a family trip to Turks & Caicos and celebrating his and Connie’s 48th wedding anniversary. He will be deeply missed! A Celebration of Harold’s life will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 -13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat on Thursday, September 9, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. with Bruce Hill officiating. A private interment will follow at the Barnwell Cemetery. MRS. MARY MEHLEN peacefully passed away with her family by her side in Lethbridge, on Thursday, September 2, 2021 at the age of 80 years.

Mary was a loving mother to Dan (Drianne) Mehlen, Dale (Susan) Mehlen and Bill (Audie) Mehlen and grandmother of seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by parents Maria and Frank Schweinzer, stepmother Agnus Lenz, and brother Tony Schweinzer.

Mary had a deep passion for creating beautiful works of art that will be cherished by many.

MILDRED “MILLIE” ROTH, born in Plaster Rock, New Brunswick on May 10, 1933, passed away unexpectedly at the Chinook Regional Hospital, on Sunday, September 5, 2021 at the age of 88 years. Millie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She was predeceased by her soul mate, Jim, of 55 years, and will be remembered by her children Linda, Jim, Steve (Donna), Rhonda (Trevor), and “adopted” daughter Mary Lou; and 22 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. She will also be remembered and dearly missed by her many friends and relatives.

Special thanks to the doctors and nurses of the Chinook Regional Hospital for their compassionate care.

A Celebration of Life will be held at COALDALE MENNONITE CHURCH, 2316 – 17 Street, Coaldale, AB, on Saturday, September 11, 2021 at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Gary Giesbrecht officiating.

TELFER

MARENA LARK MANGUM TELFER, beloved wife of James Oliver Telfer of Lethbridge, Alberta passed away at the Chinook Regional Hospital on September 3, 2021, at the age of 68 years.

She fought a brave yet short battle with cancer, filled with dignity, strength, and humour.

Marena is the loving mother of Andrew Telfer (Lindsay) of Stirling, Alberta and Edward Telfer (Melissa) of Lethbridge, Alberta (and her dog, Dusty). She is survived by her loving husband James (Jim) Oliver Telfer, her brother Kenneth Ralph Mangum (Debbie) and sisters: Tanya Dell Liston (Garry), Ruth Phelps (Brad) and Phyllis Mangum. Marena is also survived by her five grandchildren Aiden, Elijah, Tiernan, Zack, and Cadence.

She is predeceased by her mother Vanola Mangum and her father Marvin Mangum.

Marena was born in Kearns, Utah on January 7, 1953, to Marvin and Vanola. She graduated from Panguitch High School in 1971 and married Jim on January 21, 1977 in Calgary, Alberta. Marena was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints holding many callings and roles within the church. She was also very active in family genealogy and could often be found pouring through microfiche and piecing together the family history. Marena had a huge heart and was always ready and willing to offer service to anyone in need. Her love for all animals was especially apparent when talking about her dogs over the years or her love of buffalo. She had a work ethic like no other, from driving her sons to early morning seminary, then working a full day, and then ensuring they made it to all their athletic endeavours as well as taking care of the household. Marena never failed to impress with her ability to handle all of it. She would always sacrifice anything for her family. From helping care for grandchildren while parents were working to assisting her boys any way she could when they were having tough times. Marena will forever be loved and missed by her family.
