ART TAMAYOSE

February 16, 1934 – September 14, 2021

AKIRA ARTHUR TAMAYOSE was born to Kyuji and Tsuru Tamayose on February 16, 1934 in Hardieville, Alberta. He was married to Naoko (Shima) for 62 years. Their family includes five children: Darcy (Keith), Tracy, Ward (Bruna), Blake (Jodi), and Natalie (Matt); nine grandchildren; and eight great- grandchildren. His siblings are Kim (Chug) Oshiro, Ev (Mas) Nishima, Tony (Kim) Tamayose, and Georgine (Casey) Van Paassen; and he was predeceased by Baby Tamayose, Teruko, Toshiko, and Walter. Numerous nieces and nephews were also a significant part of his life. Sadly, he passed away on September 14, 2021 at the age of 87.

Art farmed in the Picture Butte and Coaldale areas working in the field from an early age. In 1955, he moved to Lethbridge working at various trades and odd jobs until eventually apprenticing and earning his certificate as journeyman electrician. After twenty-five years in the electrical trade, he semi-retired remodelling old houses (the most derelict he could find)—eventually honing his skill as a jack-of-all-trades.

For all his life sports were a passion. On snowy winter days he was known to head out to Henderson Lake and carve out a section of ice for the kids to skate on, and throughout the 70s converted the garden at the northside house into a backyard rink. From the 80s onward he was such an avid golf fan that we’d thought for a while there he had an adopted son named Tiger Woods. At one time he even dedicated a room in the basement to a full-swing indoor driving range complete with tarps, assorted clubs, and buckets of balls. Grandpa followed his grandkids’ sports endeavours throughout the years—with this came road trips, being a fixture at local ball diamonds, and enjoying the community of sports families and friends.

Husband. Dad. Grandpa. Brother. Uncle. Friend. And someone to shoot the breeze with.

We miss you and honour you always in memory.

We extend our appreciation to Reverend Izumi, Christensen Salmon Generations Funeral Home, local health care providers, and the wonderful second family at the Garden View Lodge. In addition, we are grateful to family and friends for reaching out with kindnesses from near and far. A Celebration of Life is planned for Art in the spring of 2022.

Jaydean Visser

1994 – 2021

It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our eldest daughter, Jaydean Lauren Visser, on September 17, 2021, at the age of 27 years.

She will forever be remembered by her parents Darrell and Lorraine, her beloved son Jaxson and her sisters Dana and Amanda.

Jaydean was lovingly brought into this world on August 28, 1994, in Lethbridge, Alberta. She was funny, loving and had a creative soul. As a child, she was happy, inquisitive and resourceful, always playing detective and being the star of home movies. The family will fondly remember the name “Agent Flower” while looking back on memories of her childhood.

Her teen years were hard as her inquisitive and resourceful nature proved difficult as she entered the drug culture. Although treatment was sought, the drugs were always a force that pulled her away from us.

Now her struggle is over and peace is finally found. We now mourn not only the loss of our girl, but also what addiction took from her; the dreams unfulfilled, the goals unreached, and a life unfinished.

Flowers are gratefully declined, but donations may be made to Streets Alive Mission (Genesis Project).

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic there will be no formal service. We wish to thank all the first responders for their service.

My poem below is dedicated to Jaydean and to any families with loved ones who are struggling with addiction.

Quicksand

Often it is said that God doesn’t give you more than you can withstand.

But when the one you love is an addict, it’s more like walking on quicksand.

Every moment unsteady treading ever so light.

While your loved one falls deeper into the night.

This is not an easy goodbye, nor the way it should be.

But now is not the time for blame,

it is a time for kindness, forgiveness and mercy.

We love you our dearest Jaydean, our little beauty queen.

The addict is not who we will choose to remember,

instead our daughter’s memory will be treasured.

Love, your family.

William “Bill” Walton

1941 – 2021

William Lewis Walton of Nobleford, Alberta, beloved husband of Karen Briget Walton, passed away peacefully on September 22, 2021, at the age of 79 years.

William “Bill” Walton was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta by loving parents Margaret and George Walton. With only grade 10 education, Bill became a Red Seal Refrigeration Mechanic.

Besides his obvious love for his wife Karen, daughter Christine and son Shawn, Bill loved trains and motorcycles. When Bill was not working on his trains, he and Karen went on numerous rides with the UMCI motorcycle club.

Once Bill retired with his loving wife in Nobleford, Alberta, Bill took up woodworking. If anyone has been to Nobleford you know the yard with the wooden train (you can find on Google maps), which he proudly built for his grandson Kristian. Bill moved onto scroll working and if you were lucky, a Christmas ornament that he made would mysteriously show up in random places in your home.

Besides his loving wife Karen Walton, Bill is survived by his daughter Christine (Garry); son Shawn (Laura); grandson Kristian and sister Lynn, as well as a niece and their families.

A Graveside Service will be held at 3:00 pm, on Tuesday, September 28, 2021, at MOUNTAIN VIEW CEMETERY, 1605 100 St SE, Calgary, Alberta.
