DELBERT “SONNY” MANY FINGERS

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our dad, grandpa, son, brother, uncle, and nephew Delbert “Sonny” Many Fingers, on October 5, 2021, at his home, surrounded by his grandchildren, children, and family. Sonny fought a short battle with cancer. Sonny was born on October 9, 1957, to Clarence (late) and Mildred (nee Many Fingers) Melting Tallow. A brother to: Jeff, Andrew (Cindy), Barry, Lee Boy and his sister Debbie. Sonny was raised as a Kiipiitapoka by his maternal grandparents (late) Albert Sr. and (late) Margaret Many Fingers. And indeed, he was very spoiled by grandma especially. Auntie Sylvia cared for him also when mom was in the hospital and the two were very close as Sonny would often go home with auntie to help her with mending or painting fences, small reno work, mow, and being an all round handy man. He attended school at the St. Mary Residential, Lavern, Hillspring, Glenwood, and Cardston. He took various trades and was a laborer for many years and a facilitator for the Blood Tribe Social Development (BRTI). In 1983, he married his best friend (late) Tammy Creighton and was blest with three beautiful daughters: Stacey (John), Sonya (Brian), and Kyla. He was further blest with beautiful grandchildren: Tyrese, Shale, Keanu, Brayden, Mackenzie, Roan, Kya, Alex, and Ryker. Godson: Julian White Feathers. He had numerous nephews, nieces, and many cousins.

He is also survived by his uncles: Herbert (late Mary Rose) and Burton (Virna) Many Fingers. Aunties: Clara (Mike) Sigurdur, Sylvia (late Punch) Tailfeathers, Roseanne (late Gordon Heavy Shields) and Marie (Don) Shade). Predeceased by his sisters: Karen and Leanne; his brother Todd; maternal and paternal grandparents; Uncles: Albert Jr., Gordon (Loretta), Les Tallow and Evans Melting Tallow. Nephew: Kashtin. Also, many cousins, one being (late) Lyndsay Many Fingers that he grew up with and were the best of cousin Friends. His son in laws: Niven and Simon. Our apologies if we missed anyone.

The wake service will be held on October 12, 2021, at the Tanner Senior’s Center, Cardston, from 6 – 10 p.m. The funeral mass will be held on October 13, 2021, at 11 a.m. at the St. Mary Immaculate Conception Church, Blood Reserve. (Due to covid restrictions, 50 people only). Interment to take place at the Pioneer Cemetery, Lavern.

THOMA

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our dear father, Rolf Peter Thoma, October 2nd, 2021 in Lethbridge.

Rolf was predeceased by his loving wife Donalda Jean in 2014 and his daughter Lyla in, 1982.

Rolf was born in Germany (Mother Anna Maria and Father Willie Thoma). He spent much of his childhood in Sumatra, Japan, Germany and Austria. He experienced WWII as a 7-year guest of Japan where he learned to speak fluent Japanese and although he suffered the atrocities of war, he held a deep fondness for the country and its people.

He immigrated to Canada at the age of 19 where he met the love of his life, Donalda Jean in Sudbury, Ontario. After a brief courtship, they married and made their home in Elliot Lake, Ont., where they raised a family of 5 children.

Rolf began his career as an underground miner and quickly worked his way through the ranks to become a purchasing agent and eventually a Purchasing Manager with Denison Mines.

When his children reached young adulthood, he made his way out west, eventually settling in Lethbridge, where he and Jean enjoyed both community and long walks in the coulees. They were always accompanied by dad’s beloved German Sheppard, Shadow.

He is survived by 4 children, 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren: daughter Michelle McCann and her children Brittany Jeanne (Nicolas) and Brody, his daughter Kelly Thoma (Dan) and her children Colby and Brandon, daughter Barbara-Anne Grizelj (Frank) and her children and grandchildren Angella-Jean Gauthier (Gabriel) sons Bryce and Joey, Michelle-Marie Maslen (Harold) and children Ryeley, Brooklyn and Abbi, April-Lyla and children Kale and Lyla, Son Brenton Thoma (Suzana).

We thank his adopted family and friends at Good Samaritans Society, Park Meadows for their incredible support, care and love.

A Celebration of Life event will be planned for a later date.
