Robert Mackenzie Bain

1939 – 2021

Mr. Robert Mackenzie Bain of Lethbridge, devoted husband to Susie, beloved father of Sarah and Michaella passed away suddenly at the Chinook Regional Hospital on November 4, 2021 after a brief illness at the age of 82.

Bob was born August 10, 1939 in Elgin, Scotland to Samuel and Elsie (Mackenzie) Bain- the youngest of their children. He immigrated to Canada at the age of 18 where he had a successful career as a Structural Steel Engineer. His career took him to various cities across the country before he finally settled in Lethbridge. Bob liked to be busy, so even after retirement, he continued with small engineering jobs.

Bob is survived by his loving wife, Susie, daughters Sarah and Michaella (Daniel) and his grandchildren Luc and Elle, who were his pride and joy. He is also survived by his daughter Rachel, her sons Rhys and Roan and by Susie’s siblings, their spouses and children. He was predeceased by his son, Craig, his parents and his siblings.

Our family would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to CRH Unit 4B for the compassionate and supportive care given to our husband and father over the last several months.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation are gratefully accepted. A private family memorial was held in his honour.

HOYT, DAN THOMAS

MARCH 26, 1932 – NOVEMBER 6, 2021

With every call our family receives we hear the impact of the ready smile and the mischievous twinkle in our dad’s blue eyes. Dan passed peacefully in the wee hours of November 6th to join his wife Gerry and daughter Danita who passed before him. We imagine the love in the crowd awaiting him that includes his parents, sisters, and a whole lot of dogs, each one in his opinion ‘the very best dog’.

Dan was born in Whiskey Gap, Alberta and grew up on the family farm in Del Bonita. His marriage to a Vancouver Island girl led to 35 years living there, raising his kids, working, making friends, and finding ways to have some fun. This fun is known to include full scale water fights that seemed to come to an end when Dan brought the water hose into the house and the kids gave up.

Dan returned to Del Bonita when he retired at 61. He needed to get back to the place where you could see something. He loved the blue skies of Alberta. The routine of retirement fit him well, daily walks with his dogs, afternoon naps and coffee visits with neighbours and relatives.

The land was so important to him and his commitment to preserving it led to the national heritage site Hoyt’s tipi rings.

Left to celebrate and reminisce are his children Rob, Terry, Susan

(Yohei) and George (Nicole); his grandchildren, Danielle, Tasha (David), Shaun (Renae), Brenton (Ashley), Kai, Josh, Abbi, Brady and Reese and great grandchildren, Makenna, Addisyn, Charlie, Gracelen, Kashton, Noa and Lola. Dad and mom also added kids, Patsy and her kids Lisa and Cory are also family. Along side the family stories, come many from family and friends. A life well lived leads to a life well loved.

We will celebrate Dan in the early summer at the Del Bonita community hall. Date and details will be available at a later date. You can be sure there will be pancakes.

Glen Dale Siggelkow – 1946-2021

GLEN DALE SIGGELKOW, of Lethbridge, beloved husband of Johan passed away peacefully on Sunday, Nov. 7, 2021.

Glen was born in Estevan, SK, to parents John and Ruby Siggelkow as the eldest of 6 children and spent his early years on the farm with his family. In 1959, the family relocated to Burdett, AB, where Glen grew up and graduated in 1966. Glen met the love of his life while attending bible college at FGBI in Eston, SK. Glen and Johan married on Sept 21, 1968, and moved to Calgary, AB, where he took a job with Trans-Alta Utilities (Fortis), remaining there until his retirement in 2006.

Glen and Johan welcomed their first daughter, Kathryn, in 1971, and their second daughter Sharlyn in 1974. Shortly after her birth, the family settled in Lethbridge, where they welcomed their third daughter, Robyn, in 1975.

Glen had a love of the outdoors and adventure that was only eclipsed by his love for his family and for his Lord, Jesus Christ. His great joy was to serve those around him, whether in his various volunteer activities, serving in his local church, taking his family on an impromptu excursion, or just noticing when someone around him needed to feel included. Glen possessed a deep and abiding faith in God, and shared that faith through his actions, showing love and honor to all, exemplifying what it means to love others as Christ loved you.

Glen is survived by his wife of 53 years, Johan, his daughters, Kathryn, Sharlyn (Dan), and Robyn, and grandchildren Michaela (Tanner), and Coleton, siblings Gloria (Bob), Mervyn (Mavis), Clifford (Anne), Rhonda, and Timothy, along with numerous cousins, uncles, aunts, nieces and nephews, and a large extended family.

A graveside service will be held at the Burdett Cemetery on Friday, Nov. 12, 2021, at 2pm. All are welcome. The Service will not be livestreamed, but a recording of the Service will be available for viewing via Glen’s obituary on the Cornerstone website within two business days.

There will be a Celebration of Life at a later date.
