DUNCAN

Joel Robert Duncan

It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Joel Robert Duncan, who sadly left this world on September 14, 2021, at the age of 65. Joel leaves behind his parents Bob and Norma Duncan, sisters Shawn, Tracy (Heather) and Kelly (Cameron), nieces Ashley and Sara, and nephew Cody. He also leaves his life partner Angela Luck and her children, Jesse, Chloe, and Noah. Joel will be missed by loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends across the country.

Joel was born in Nova Scotia and had a love for the East Coast. He was a naturalist, environmentalist, and an avid birder from a very young age. He spent over twenty years as an observer for the Rocky Mountain Eagle Research Foundation monitoring the golden eagle migration.

A talented and dedicated photographer, Joel captured life through his art and left us an extensive collection of stunning images of the natural world. He was also an actor and worked on many film productions in Alberta, and as a standardized patient in the education program at the Foothills Hospital. Joel was well-known for his quick wit and sense of humour passed down to him by his Grandpa Dunn, and he loved to make us all laugh.

Joel and Angela cherished their life together, and whether paddling, birding, gardening, cooking, hiking, camping, snow-shoeing, or long walks with their beloved dogs, the strength of their bond was unmistakable.

Joel enjoyed the simplicity of everyday things like looking up new recipes, finding a beautiful flower in the woods, hearing the song of a favourite bird, or soaking up another gorgeous sunset. He marvelled at the beauty and majesty of nature and the world around him. His zest for life makes saying good-bye so difficult. May Joel’s spirit paddle gentle waters.

A celebration of life will take place at a later date; for details, contact amluck@telus.net

SVEINSON, Keith Reginald

May 20, 1931 – Innisfail, Alberta

November 25, 2021 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Keith Sveinson on Thursday, November 25, 2021 at the age of 90 years.

Keith, and his twin brother Kenneth, were born at Innisfail, Alberta May 20, 1931 to Violet Sveinson (nee Cook), and Waldemar John Sveinson. The twins and older brother, Allan, were raised on the family farm one mile south of the Icelandic village of Markerville.

Keith graduated from the University of Alberta with a B.Sc. degree (Agriculture) in 1957 and became a professional Agrologist. His career spanned more than 45 years, most as Manager of Agricultural Banking Services for RBC in Alberta. Keith also had farmland near Cochrane and raised Simmental cattle. He loved his time on the farm and spent countless hours there.

Keith married his high school sweetheart, Edna Holt, December 7, 1957, and they were married nearly 62 years before Edna’s passing November 24, 2019. Until March of this year he continued to live in the home in University Heights where he and Edna had raised their family and developed life-long friendships.

Music was always part of his life and in his retirement years, he was a member of the Stampede City Chorus. His barbershop quartet, Close Encounters, was an award-winning group competing in local, regional and international competitions.

People, community and connection were most important to our Dad. He brought people together, was an amazing host and had a wonderful caring heart.

Keith and Edna are survived by their three children, Bryan (Sandra), Jill (Murray dec.), and John (Jody); five grandchildren, Dana (Riley), Stefan, Rachel, Colton, and Taneson; and great-granddaughter Reyndis.

Thank you to the staff at StayWell Manor, Foothills Hospital and Agape Hospice for the loving care and support given to Dad during the past few months.

A private family service will be held. There will be a Celebration of Keith’s Life at a later date.

Condolences, memories and photos may be shared and viewed on Keith’s expanded obituary at http://www.McInnisandHolloway.com. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Salvation Army (Agape Hospice), 1731 29th Street SW Calgary, AB T3C 1M6, or online at http://www.salvationarmy.ca.
