She was predeceased by the love of her life Ronald Valgardson, father Clarence Bassett, mother Mildred Basset (nee Roach), step father Jack Roach; brother Bob Bassett;  brothers-in-law William “Bill” Valgardson, Howard Valgardson, Garry Valgardson, Van Haslam, Cliff Rawsthorne and Alfred Carter; sisters-in-law Norma Haslam, Thelma Rawsthorne and LaRue Carter, Donna Valgardson and Patti Valgardson. She was also predeceased by her best friend Margaret Bissett who she loved and missed dearly. She would often talk of all their wonderful adventures and how good she was to her. They made many wonderful memories together.

Connie was born December 12, 1936 to Mildred and Clarence Bassett, the oldest of two children. While growing up, she enjoyed many activities including swimming, curling and dancing. As she grew older and started in the work force, she had a few different jobs including at the canary in the can cars, at the Royal Hotel as a receptionist and at Henrietta’s Hair Salon.

It was after a dance that Connie met the love of her life Ronald. They were married on January 18, 1962 and were blessed with three children who she absolutely adored. Connie showered them with love and attention creating some of their greatest memories. At a young age, she was told she was losing her sight and soon would go blind. She still continued doing everything as always, making sure her family was taken care of. Connie was the best mom a kid could ever ask for. As her kids grew up and moved out to start families of their own, they could expect one or two phone calls a day just to see what they were doing and if they were okay.

Connie became a member of the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB) and made numerous friend over the years. She enjoyed listening to books and crocheting blankets for every new edition to her family. There wasn’t a baby who didn’t get a blanket. She spent many hours on the phone talking to her friends and family keeping up on all the latest news. For a lady who stayed home she knew everything that was going on in the world.

Connie loved musicals and if the chance came, she would go. She was a shopper, always looking for a good deal and would brag about every one she got. Later, when she and Ronald needed extra help, she was always very grateful for the wonderful care they received from Lethbridge Family Services, Taber Community Care and the Taber Health Centre. Mom will be remembered for her honesty, wit and amazing memory.

“Dear mom, in life, we loved you dearly. In death, we love you still. In our hearts you hold a place, no one else will ever fill.”   Arrangements in care of Southland Funeral Chapel, Taber. Telephone: (403) 223-8778.
