BISCAGLIA

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, ANTONIETTA “Toni” BISCAGLIA on Sunday, February 6th, 2022 at St Therese Villa Lethbridge, Alberta at the age of 91.

She leaves to mourn, but cherish all the good memories, her daughters Marisa (Ken) Hakstol and Lindy (Robert) Horvath and grandsons Kyle Horvath (Kandra Forbes), Rhys Hakstol, and Keilan Hakstol.

She was predeceased by our dad Mariano Biscaglia (2012), sister Maria Infanti, brother-in-law Paolo Infanti and nephew Luigino Infanti as well as extended family in Canada and in Italy.

Mom was born in Zoppola, Pordenone Italy on October 17th, 1930 to Pellegrino and Enrica Cassin. She immigrated to Lethbridge in 1955, joining her sister who had immigrated earlier. Mom was introduced to our dad by her sister and brother-in-law and they were married that same year in St Basil’s Church.

When mom first came to Lethbridge she worked at Catelli. Once her children were born, she was a stay at home mom who was a great cook and baker. She was always ready to welcome friends and family to her home. There would always be homemade baking and salami, cheese and homemade buns waiting. Mom’s Catholic faith was a cornerstone of her life. She prayed the rosary often and attended mass whenever she could.

When she first re-entered the workforce, mom worked at Ducan Industries on their evening shift. Later she worked for numerous local clothing shops including TipTop Tailors, Maxine’s Ladies’ Wear, and Black’s Mens Wear. Mom was a talented tailor and seamstress who could make just about anything fit and often create something out of nothing.

She loved to help dad out with the garden and flower beds and had a special area set aside for her beautiful roses. There were always some cut roses in the kitchen as the roses continued to flourish.

Mom dearly loved and doted on her family but her greatest love of all were her three grandsons. She felt they were the best gifts she could have ever received and looked forward to those weekly Sunday dinners when we would all be together as a family.

St. Therese Villa was Mom’s home for the past six years. We thank the dedicated staff for their loving care of her during that time.

Memorial donations may be made to St Anthony of Padua, www. santantonio.org

A Funeral Mass will be held at ST. BASIL’S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 604 13th Street North, Lethbridge, AB, on Saturday, February 12, 2022, at 1:00 PM, with Father Kevin Tumback celebrating.

Mr. Larry Hamilton of Lethbridge, beloved husband of the late Mrs. Diane (Fleming) Hamilton, passed away on Tuesday, February 8, 2022 at the age of 73 years.

In earlier years, Larry was a golf enthusiast and more recently he enjoyed a good poker game with friends. Larry was satisfied with his fairly sedate life, until illness struck in July. He really enjoyed having long meaningful telephone conversations with his cat Olivia on his lap.

When Larry was hospitalized and told he had terminal cancer, his reaction was; “I hope I can accept this with dignity, grace, and keep my sense of humour.” Although in pain, he managed that beautifully until the last few days. February 8th, he left for a better place and he’s resting joyfully now.

HINMAN, Irene Lenore

Apr. 11, 1924 – Camrose, Alberta

Feb. 4, 2022 – Pincher Creek, Alberta

A loving wife, mother and grandmother, Irene passed away early on Friday, February 4, 2022, at the age of 97 years.

Irene was raised on a farm near Delburne, the eldest of four children born to Cameron and Ella Campbell (nee Lowry). After Normal School (teacher training) in Calgary during war years, Irene ventured out to teach a few years in small communities before taking a position in Pincher Creek. It was here that she met her future husband, Shirley Hinman and continued to reside until her passing. Raising her own family was her greatest joy, and as a devoted mother, homemaker and community member, she lived a life of service to others. Her hands were always busy; tending to home and children, baking, gardening, or handcrafting clothes, quilts or framed needlework. She was active in the United Church, Rebekah’s Lodge and as a community volunteer. In retirement, she and Dad treasured their time with friends and neighbors while camping, playing cards, travelling, dancing or just enjoying a good visit over coffee or a meal.

Irene is survived by her four children, Lenore Hinman of Lethbridge; Bruce (Beth Ronaghan) of Stittsville, ON; Maureen (Greg) Tarnowski of Carseland; Garth (Darla Figved) of Lethbridge. She will be remembered fondly by her Grandchildren – those in the Ottawa area, Christopher (Heather Thompson) Hinman; Seth Hinman; Jennifer Hinman; Amy (Mitchell Greenis) Tarnowski; and Danielle (Devin) Schlenker and great grandsons Tyson and Adam of Dunmore, AB. She is also survived by her brother Grant Campbell of Calgary and sister-in-law Eva Campbell of Pincher Creek, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Irene was predeceased by Shirley, her husband of 60 years, and by brother Max Campbell, sister Jean (George) Sibbald; Hinman brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Henry (Agnes); Ted (Della); Doug (Jane); Grant (Faye); Jennie (Milo) Vance; and sister-in-law Joyce Campbell.

Irene Lenore Hinman will be remembered by those who knew her as a gentle, caring, hardworking woman who spoke only kindly of others, loved God, and sought to live out her faith.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date.

If desired, memorial donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society: Alberta and NWT or a charity of choice.

Darryl Wayne McLeod

July 23, 1941 – February 7, 2022

Our dear husband, brother, father, grandfather, stepfather, step grandfather and friend “went to his reward” on February 7, 2022. Darryl was born in Lethbridge July 23, 1941, to Florence and Murdoch McLeod. He grew up on the family farm near Barons and attended Barr Hill School. He went on to attend SAIT, U of A, U of C, and U of L and taught school in various cities around Alberta for 38 years. Most of his teaching years were spent counselling and teaching children with learning difficulties.

He will be mourned by his wife of 34 years Shirley Crawford, his brother Ron (Linda), his dear daughters Kari (Chris) and Carmen, his beloved granddaughters Hayden McLeod, Tamsen McKerley, Roslyn McKerley, Jessamine McKerley, and Skye McKerley, Shirley’s children David Gregory Crawford (Heather and their children Maggie, Finn and Will), Leanne Frehlich (Craig and their children Heidi and Dieter), Diane Britton (Darrin and their children Elizabeth and Mataya), and Jason Crawford (and his son Jordan Middleton), and his furry friend Barry will miss him dearly.

Darryl was an avid learner, continuous researcher (of movies, recipes, music, and anything else anyone mentioned), insatiable reader (he read three books the week before his death), ambitious traveler, and enthusiastic gardener. He was a master of trivia, had a wry sense of humor, keen wit, and boundless love of family.

He and Shirley loved to travel and their trips included Europe, the Mediterranean, Russia, the United States, China, Singapore, and several trips to the Philippines. Darryl and Shirley were active members of the United Church of Canada in every city and town in which they lived. Before COVID you could count on them to set up coffee on many Sunday mornings at the church in High River.

Darryl appreciated the warm and loving space created by his wife Shirley and her children, particularly when his own daughters were not able to join him for special events like birthdays and holidays. One of Darryl’s delights was spending time with his grandchildren either in person or by phone in High River, Lethbridge, Toronto, Okotoks, Edmonton, Connecticut, or Virginia. You always felt welcome when you were with him. He was a wonderful storyteller and loved to laugh. His Virginia-based grandchildren will miss games of “Sorry!”, his tales of his daughters as children, and his probing questions about what they’re learning at school.

He was especially passionate about raising funds for solar panels for the High River United Church. In lieu of flowers please make your donation to the High River United Church by e-transfer to hruc.finance@gmail.com.

A Family Memorial Service for Darryl will be held on Saturday, February 12, 2022 at 11:00AM. For those unable to attend, a livestream will be available on Darryl’s Tribute page at http://www.lylereeves.com.
