Mr. Erwin Bader of Lethbridge, beloved husband of Mrs. Helen Bader passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home on February 19, 2022 at the age of 93 years.

Besides his wife, Erwin is survived by his sons, Edward Bader, John (Debbie) Bader, and his daughters, Diane (Steve) Munroe, Karen (Lynn) Joy; five grandchildren: Mike (Lisa) Schaly, Scott Schaly, Kris (Sydney) Schaly, Cassie Woodward, Geoffrey Woodward; six great-grandchildren: Jade and Gavin Schaly; Annabelle and Olivia Schaly; Jayce and Autumn MacBurnie; and many nieces and nephews.

Erwin immigrated to Canada in 1950 to Neudorf, Saskatchewan. It was here that he met Erwin Shinkle and his old friend Oscar. They went with him on his journey in 1951 to work in the bush east of Thunder Bay, On. In 1952, he worked on a farm east of Yorkton, SK for the summer and then later worked in construction in Saskatoon, SK. Erwin then moved to Lethbridge, AB where he worked in the coal mines for eight years. It was during this time that he met Helen (Orosz) and they got married on January 2, 1954. Initially Mom and Dad lived in a small house in Lethbridge, and Dad worked for LNID. Then he told mom that he wanted to be a farmer.

After 47 years of farming Erwin and Helen retired to Lethbridge, AB in June 2001. It was a very sad day for Dad when they left the farm and moved into Lethbridge.

Erwin was a very intelligent person. His main want in his life was for his children to succeed and be able to take care of themselves. Erwin, who had his own education interrupted by WW2, was a well-read man and encouraged all his children to pursue higher education and follow their dreams and passions. He always spoke of how his mother always said to get an education if possible.

During his retirement, he spent his time gardening and loved to read. Erwin and Helen also had the opportunity to travel to Hawaii and Thunder Bay during their retirement.

VIOLET IRENE MACLEAN

January 7, 1923 – February 17, 2022

VIOLET IRENE (BRANDVOLD) MACLEAN slipped away quietly while asleep during the early morning hours of Thursday, February 17th in her 99th year at the Chinook Regional Hospital after a short stay.

She was born on January 7th, 1923 on her grandparent’s farm near Asquith, Saskatchewan to Mabel Brandvold. Her Norwegian grandfather Erland and grandmother Kari Brandvold raised her as she attended school in nearby Asquith. They called her ‘Tooty’ as she was full of laughter and the joy of life. Her first language back then was Norwegian.

She made her way to Saskatoon as a teenager working at the Bessborough Hotel for many years in the Dining Room before marrying our father, Donald W. MacLean.

They eventually moved to Edmonton and then to Calgary in 1966 where our mom continued her long sales associate career with Simpson Sears. After our father passed away unexpectedly in 1969, mom met our step-father, Harold W. Leis a number of years later. In 1978, she moved to be with him at his home in Kitchener, Ontario. These were extremely happy years for her, socializing with their many friends and spending winters in Florida.

After the sudden passing of our beloved Harold in 1992, mom moved to Lethbridge to be with her eldest son, Ron. Soon, she was in her new condo at Grandview Village enjoying her many new friends and keeping active in the community with many clubs and associations.

After twenty years, a new chapter in her life took her to another wonderful place to live, Black Rock Terrace in Lethbridge. She truly loved her life there. Her quick smile and engaging personality brought so many close friends into her life including all the warmhearted staff members that were so good to her. She was there for almost ten years.

Left to feel this immense loss are her two sons, Ron (Denise) of Airdrie and Robert (Fon) of Gig Harbor, Washington; as well as special friends Elizabeth and Eva. Her dearest mother, Mabel Brandvold Lunde, predeceased her in 1996.

Our most sincere gratitude goes to the gracious, loving care she received while at the Chinook Regional Hospital Unit 3C. Thank you all!

At mom’s request, there is no service.
