Donald “Don” Bagnall

1930 – 2022

Mr. Donald George Bagnall passed away in his home on Monday, May 9, 2022 at the age pf 92 years. He is together again with Roberta, his wife of 55 years.

Donald was born to George and Irene Bagnall on March 15, 1930, in Wilkie, Saskatchewan.

Don was the oldest of 11 children and he is survived by his brothers David (Micky) Bagnall, Boyd (Kathy) Bagnall; sisters Pat Ball, Shirley (Garry) Edwards, Ellen (Peter) Kazakoff, Gail (Willis) Lawton, Dawn (Gary) Barber; sister-in-law Cheryl Bagnall as well as numerous nieces, nephews and their families. Don is also survived by his children from his first marriage Kim, Janice and Lee.

Besides his loving parents George and Irene, Don was pre-deceased by his wife Roberta; sister Ruth Smart; brothers Jim Bagnall, Bill Bagnall as well as brothers in law Bob Frankie and Roy Ball.

Don spent his childhood and graduated High School in Wilkie, Saskatchewan. After graduation at the age of 18, Don joined the Royal Canadian Air Force where he served for 28 years. It was while stationed in Greenwood, Nova Scotia that Don met and married Roberta Rossetti. Don was warmly welcomed and loved by the Rossetti family. After retiring from the Air Force, Don and Roberta settled in Lethbridge where they raised their three children Peter Bagnall, Eric (Shelley) Bagnall, Wendy (Jerry) Luskey; Don and Roberta were also blessed with four grandchildren Sara Luskey, Ian Luskey, Hanna Luskey and Darian Bagnall.

Don was a loving son, husband, father, brother, uncle and a very proud and doting grandfather. He will be greatly missed.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, May 20, 2022 at MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610, 4 STREET SOUTH, Lethbridge, Alberta with Reverend Trevor Potter, officiating.

BECK

1968 – 2022

TODD WAYNE BECK passed away peacefully May 12,2022 after a brief battle with cancer.

He leaves to morn his partner Carrie, his daughter Kennedy (Dan), and beautiful “bug” granddaughter Remy. His son Khyler, his mom Corrine, his sister Shawna (Wes), nephew Cody (Cassandra) and kids Sadie, Kashlyn and Bo, niece Cassie (Brad) and kids Paisley, Cooper, as well as numerous friends and family.

Todd was predeceased by his wife Tonya, dad Wayne, and great niece June.

1927 – 2022

 Rose Berg, beloved wife of the late John Berg, passed away in Coaldale on Friday, May 13, 2022 at the age of 94 years.

 Rose is survived by her daughter Beverly (Ken) Carroll of Lethbridge and their children Trevor (Carol) Carroll of Lethbridge, Colin Carroll of Calgary and Keith Carroll of Lethbridge; daughter Sharon (Dennis) Barbour of Coaldale and their children Scott (Becky) Barbour of Taber and Treena (Callum) Russell of Three Hills. She is also survived by seven great grandchildren Emilee Barbour (Cory Himmelspach) of Camrose and Eric (Emily) Barbour of Coaldale; Mitchell Russell of Three Hills and Madison (Ian) Scantland of Strathmore; Levi, Ethan, Abby and Isabella Carroll all of Lethbridge and she was expecting her first two great great grandchildren in July 2022. She will be fondly remembered by her sisters Freda Born of Lethbridge (recently of Taber), Thelma Byde-Vaate of Surrey, British Columbia, Kaye Hagen of Terrace, British Columbia, Gloria (Len) O’Brien of Armstrong, British Columbia and by numerous nieces and nephews.

 She was predeceased by her husband John Berg, brother Jack (Sue) Friesen, sister Helen (Peter) Durksen and brothers-in-law Jake Born, William Byde-Vaate and George Hagen.

 Rose was born to Helen (nee Klassen) and Jacob Friesen on September 10, 1927 in Ewelme (Glenwood), Alberta. Rose and John were living on neighbouring farms when they started dating. She fell in love and at the age of eighteen, she married John I. Berg on November 17, 1945. They didn’t have much but they knew they had each other. 

 Their daughter Bev was born in 1946 and Sharon, in 1952. Rose was energetic and full of life, always caring for the needs of her family and putting them first. This included working in the beet fields near Coaldale, at the Lilydale plant, for a local dry cleaners and she also worked for Nikkel’s grocery store (Economy Corner) and finally, Robinson’s store.  

 Rose dearly loved her siblings and craved time with them. They each had a very special place in her heart and she would do anything for them. Family meant the world to Rose. John was at the center of her world for more than sixty years before his passing in December 2005. After John passed away, Rose moved to the Sunny South Lodge where she resided until her passing. She will be dearly missed but fondly remembered.

Doris Rowledge

December 12, 1930 – May 5, 2022

Doris Rowledge passed away peacefully on Thursday May 5, 2022, with her family by her side. Over these past few weeks, Doris was able to visit in person and in video calls with all her family members and she felt deeply loved and truly at peace.

Doris is survived by Russel, her loving husband of nearly 70 years, her three beloved children: Lorinda (Russell), Darrel (Laura), and Sheralyn (Ray), six grandchildren who she adored: Mackenzie (Tomasz), Taisha, Tyler (Nikkie), Joen (Maria), Logan, and Taryn, her dear sister Shirley and cherished brother Earl (Marion), as well as dozens of nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and nephews, and cousins, with whom she shared unique, strong relationships. She was predeceased by her parents Bert and Lola, brother Don, brother-in-law Gus, and sister-in-law Shirley.

Lorraine Villeneuve

1952 – 2022

Mrs. Lorraine Edith Villeneuve of Lethbridge, beloved wife of Mr. Russell Villeneuve, passed away at home on Thursday, May 12, 2022 at the age of 70 years.

Lorraine was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia where she met the love of her life, Russell, in 1969. In 1970, Lorraine and Russell got married and had their first born, Trisha. Shortly after that they moved to Lethbridge to start their life together where they had their second child, Jason.

Together, Lorraine and Russell enjoyed traveling together to the Caribbean, Disneyland, Disney World, Las Vegas, Mexico, and their favorite destination; Hawaii. Lorraine loved to spend her time painting and making crafts, as well as spending time with her family until her recent decline of health in the past 6 years.

Besides her loving husband, Lorraine is survived by her daughter Trisha; son Jason; and her granddaughters Natasha, Jazmin, and Kaitlyn.

WESTERGREEN

Mary Anne (Wiens) Westergreen passed away Mother’s Day at the Chinook Regional Hospital.

Mary was predeceased by her husband Frank Robert Westergreen, her parents Annie & Henry Wiens, her brother Jake Wiens, her sister Anne Harrington, and her twin sister Dolly (Agnes) Renner.

Mary is survived by her daughters: Janet Voth (Bob), Brenda Zdyb (Stan) all of Coaldale, her grandchildren Charlene Voth, Matthew Voth both of Lethbridge and Chantel Rosenthal (Kevin) of Edmonton, Lindsay Zdyb (Jeff) and Ashleigh Zbyd (Jason) all of Lethbridge. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Calee Parkins (Brayden) of Lethbridge, Marcus Allison and Arayah Dawn Voth both of Edmonton. She is also survived by one brother and two sisters and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mary was born in Swift Current, SK and later relocated to Alberta. She met her husband Frank when they both worked for Doc Tenney in the Warner area. Frank and Mary lived in several different locations due to Franks work requirements but spent most of their married life in Coaldale.

Mary eagerly anticipated the arrival of each new grandchild and great grandchild, each held a special place in her heart.

Mary went to work for Bill Beattie at the Greyhound grill, she worked there for many years and eventually owned and operated this as Marys’ Place. Charlene and Chantel were mini waitresses in training and loved helping Grandma. Mary made many lifelong friends there and employed many of her family members. After Marys’ retirement, she moved to an apartment and managed the 10-unit complex, she formed many friendships there.

Mary was an amazing cook, no one ever left her home without being well fed. She sewed clothes for her family and if there was anything that needed to be patched, she was on it. Franks’ work clothes, Stans’ jeans, kid’s toys, and Charlene’s beloved “Copper” the dog. Bob and a friend Erika both had well-loved monkeys that received a whole new set of clothes.

Mary sewed prom and wedding dresses for others in the neighborhood. She sewed cabbage patch dolls for her grandchildren customizing them as requested. She sewed animals of all kinds. She was the Queen of recycling and repurposing; she was a practical woman, and nothing ever went to waste. Many family members woke to find creations in their flower beds or on their front steps, this was Mary’s way of sharing her special touch.

Mary loved camping and often camped with her siblings, she loved to take her grandchildren with her, nothing was ever too much work when it came to her family.

If you visited Mary there would often be a puzzle in progress on her kitchen table, she played solitaire looking out her dining room window to watch the neighborhood kids travels and antics. These kids made out like bandits at Halloween as she prepped bags weeks in advance. Disney movies and special treats were bought in anticipation of grandchildren’s’ sleepovers. No chores for grandchildren at Grandmas house, and Grandmas taxi service was always available, the meter was never on. Lindsay and Ashleigh were chauffeured to school whenever grandma worried about the weather.

Mary was always so happy to help her family in any way and loved to babysit the grandchildren. She welcomed her grandchildren’s friends into her home as well.

Mary loved Stampede wrestling and was a very vocal fan! She shared this passion with her dad.

Mary treated the grandchildren to trips to Bonanza, Zellers, and Humpty’s. Mary would often turn up in Magrath with ice cream and watermelon on ice in her trunk. Mary LOVED to drive and drive she did: to Bingo, Walmart, Zellers. Road trips to Magrath, Taber, Brooks and Waterton were not uncommon, and she usually had little co- pilots with her. In her later years she often drove twice a day to have a lunch and supper at Humpty’s the staff all knew her well, and she made many friends there.

Marys’ life showed her to be a hard worker, she was made of tough stuff, a loving and nurturing person. She had a quick smile, laughed easily, welcomed visits and was always willing to help anyone in need. Mary loved people and made many friends over the years. She loved her family above all else.

About 5 years ago Mary developed Dementia/Alzheimer’s and moved to the Sunny South Lodge in Coaldale where she resided until her passing. While the dementia stole bits and pieces of her away, her strong spirit and quick smile remained, she was always so happy to have visitors.

Mary’s family is very appreciative to Tricia of TC Care who provided Mary with hours of companionship and interactions this past year.

Mary and her family are forever grateful for the AMAZING care provide to their whole family by all the staff at Chinook Regional Hospital on Unit 4B.

A graveside service was held May 16, 2022, at 2 pm in the Field of Honor at Mountain View Cemetery in Lethbridge.

ZIMMERMANN

Horst Zimmermann went to a heavenly home at the age of 86 years, on May 10, 2022. He will be lovingly remembered by his sister Rita, and the families of his two sisters (Irma), and numerous cousins, relatives, and friends.

Horst Zimmermann was born in 1935 in Espenbusch, Germany to his parents Friedrich and Helene Zimmermann. He had two sisters, Irma and Rita. His first ten years included being outside in a farmyard, hearing the sounds of nature, various relatives, and music. In about September of 1941, he went to school. By 11, he helped his parents on many farm jobs. Due to war, the family had to flee and became refugees. After the war, the family then spent about 7 years in Koldingen, a village near the city of Hannover. At 16, Horst did a year of apprenticing as a carpenter. They worked on deliveries of windows and doors.

In April of 1952, the Zimmermann family emigrated to Canada and came to a farm north of Coaldale, Alberta. They worked on that farm and did sugar beet field work the next three years. Horst also helped a farmer, looking after some cattle and irrigation. Horst did some work for a short time on a crew in northern Alberta. A Lethbridge church became an important part of his life. He contributed volunteer carpentry too.

In 1956, the parents bought a farm and the work of mixed farming brought many duties. Horst worked on beet fields for about 23 years. They also grew wheat, raised pigs and chickens, and worked with cattle. Horst had calves even till 2017. He did many other things with the parents to keep the farm going! Horst enjoyed biking and even entered in the Alberta Seniors summer games. He loved the outdoors, and fixing things.

He later attended Picture Butte churches. Horst knew many people in and around Picture Butte. Horst had a giving heart. He seemed quite content doing basic living and also watching birds. He enjoyed talking to people.

As his health was declining, activities became limited. Farm neighbours helped him with duties. The family found him a good seniors lodge in Taber in December 2017. There he enjoyed rest and learning about the people.

The family would like to say thank you to the many caregiving people who gave of their time, work, and insight during his latter years.

Instead of flowers, donations may be made to the Christian mission Trans World Radio Canada.

A Graveside Service will be at Mountain View Cemetery Lethbridge, on Wednesday May 18, at 1:00 P.M. We will meet at the main entrance, by the eternal flame, and go to the grave site at 12:55.
