SIEBERT

HENRY SIEBERT, a caring husband, father, grandfather and friend, passed away on July 10, 2022 at the age of 81 at the Coaldale Health Care Centre after a long battle with cancer.

Henry was born on October 11, 1940. He grew up in a big happy family – four brothers and seven sisters. He had the example of patient, loving parents and was surrounded by Christian influences all of his life.

Henry accepted Christ as his personal Lord and saviour at the age of 12. He was baptized and became a member of the Coaldale Mennonite Brethren Church at age 18, where he served faithfully.

Music was a big part of his life. He found himself especially fulfilled when participating in choirs, quartets and male octets. The Siebert family loved singing and it was a common event for them all to gather around the piano. This tradition continued even as the family gradually became smaller.

Childhood and youth were happy times. After completing grade school, Henry attended Coaldale Bible School for two years.

On June 29, 1968, Henry married the love of his life, Anne Regier. It was a very rainy day and as the saying goes, “if it rains on your bride, you will be rich.” They were rich in love for one another and were blessed with 54 years of marriage. God’s greatest blessings were two sons, Garry and Darcy. The four of them were a family and did all of the things that a family does and now have a heart full of memories. Soon the family grew and two special daughters-in-law, Joanna and Rachel, were added to the family. Then the grandchildren arrived – Logan, Hannah, James, Avery and Joel. Henry enjoyed family times together and was always so interested in how and what everyone was doing.

Farming became his way of life and he put his heart and soul into it. The last 18 working years before retirement he drove a cement mixer truck for Inland Concrete. He always enjoyed work and looked forward to Monday mornings to be back in routine. In retirement, Henry and his sons operated a tree farm which allowed them to spend many hours together.

In all areas of life, Henry was given to great detail. If something needed to be done, there was really only one way to do it and that was the ‘right way’. He took good care of his family and made sure they were always provided for.

Even though Henry’s journey in the past few years was difficult, he never lost his faith. He prayed passionately for healing but it was not to be. In the last few weeks, he often said, “I believe… I believe,” and that is what carried him through.

He leaves to mourn his beloved wife, Anne; his sons, Garry (Joanna) and Darcy (Rachel); his grandchildren, Logan (Brittany), Hannah, James, Avery (Riley) and Joel; his sisters, Sue Siebert, Nettie Davidson and Lydia (Steve) Cullum; his sisters-in-law, Luella Siebert and Elsie Friesen; his in-laws, John & Lydia Thiessen, John & Elizabeth Loewen and John Regier, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and many friends and acquaintances.

He was predeceased by his parents, Peter & Susanna Siebert; his brothers, Peter, David, John and Jake, and his sisters, Mary, Anne, Tina and Helen.

A Memorial Service will be held at COALDALE MENNONITE BRETHREN CHURCH, 2114 – 18 Street, Coaldale, Alta. on Saturday, July 16, 2022 at 11 a.m. The service will be livestreamed and can be accessed via Henry’s obituary on Cornerstone’s website or the following link: youtu.be/G-_TXUmT5YM.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to ShareWord Global (Gideons).

EVE STRAIN

November 18, 1929 – July 9, 2022

After 92 years of being loved and cherished, EVE STRAIN of Foremost, AB passed away in Lethbridge on July 9, 2022 with family by her side.

Eve was born and raised at Chip Lake, AB, one of 8 children to John and Annie Brouse. While growing up during the depression and the war, she shared fond memories of going out on the lake in their rickety boat, picking wild berries and going to skating parties and dances.

After working in Calgary, she married Art Strain in 1949 and together they raised 4 children and worked on their farm south of Nemiscam, AB for over 70 years.

Mom enjoyed the simple things in life; family, reading, baking, playing cards and gatherings at their Elkwater cottage and spent her life making a loving, happy home.

She was always there for her family and friends with a cup of tea, a cookie or two and a listening ear. Mom put on many miles running the roads and taking delicious meals out to the fields for harvest “picnics”. She was proud to travel every province in Canada, several American states and some Asian countries.

Eve was predeceased by Art, her husband of 72 years, and is survived by her children Gail (Jim) Westland, Wendy (Kelly) Hagel, Gary (Phoebe) Strain and Lynn (Nick) Tait: grandchildren Gerry (Ashley), Shannon (Jake), Ryan, Ashlee (Kelly), Meagan (David), Owen (Nicole), Emilia, Georgia and Alex: nine great grandchildren; her sisters Edna and Helen and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff of Bow Island Long Term Care and Edith Cavell Care Centre in Lethbridge for taking such wonderful care of Mom.

At Eve’s request there will be no funeral, but donations may be made in her name to the Parkinson Association of Alberta (6835 Railway St SE #120 Calgary, AB T2H 2V6) or a charity of one’s choice.

Simkje “Simone” Van Seters

1926 – 2022

On Monday, JULY 11, 2022, the Lord took into His eternal Glory, Simkje Trijntje “Simone” Van Seters, at the age of 96 years.

Simone was born on June 8, 1926, in de Tijnje, The Netherlands. She married her first husband, Maarten Pouwelse on May 2, 1951. After the passing of her first husband Maarten, Simone immigrated to Neerlandia, AB, in 1991, to be close to her daughter Janny and her husband Joop Harthoorn and their children. In 1996 she moved to Coaldale to remain close to her daughter and her family. There she met Cornelis Van Seters and they were married on May 30, 1997.

Simone loved the Lord and His church and faithfully worshiped her Creator throughout her life. Not perfectly…. but always in her own quiet ways. Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren gave her always immense joy and she loved them from the bottom of her heart. It was her constant prayer that her Lord would work in all of them the desire to faithfully walk in His ways.

We are thankful for having received a faithful and caring mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She has been an example to us by her walk of life. We give therefore thanks to our Heavenly Father for this.

Simone is survived by her daughter Janny and her son-in-law Joop Harthoorn, 8 grandchildren, and presently 26 great grandchildren, her sister Ann Wikkerink from Vancouver Island, as well as many nephews and nieces. Besides her first husband Maarten Pouwelse and her second husband Cornelis Van Seters, Simone was predeceased by her parents Reint and Jantje Smit and 8 siblings.

“No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor death, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

A Graveside Service will be held at 2:00 pm, on Saturday, July 16, 2022, at the COALDALE COMMUNITY CEMETERY, 1310-1328 21st St. Coaldale, AB.

A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 pm, on Saturday, July 16, 2022, at the CANADIAN REFORMED CHURCH, AB-3 W, Coaldale, AB.
