Marie Price

1928 – 2022

Marie Price, nee Michelson, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great- grandmother, sister and aunt, passed away at the age of 93 on August 25, 2022 at St. Michael’s Health Centre surrounded by her family.

Marie is survived by her three children, Tom (Arlene) Price, Cindy Mason and Darren (Marion) Price, all of Lethbridge, as well as her grandchildren Kristen (Adam) Saturley, Mark Mason (Nikki Briere), Allison Price, Danielle Price, Jason (Ildiko) Price, Jeffrey Price and great-granddaughters Mikayla Saturley and Ashlyn Price.

She also leaves behind her brothers Glen (Betty-Jo) Michelson, Bruce (Anita) Michelson, sister Arlene (Cliff) Firth, her brother-in-law Roy (Vi) Price and numerous nieces and nephews.

Marie was predeceased by her beloved husband, George Price, her parents Rasmus and Lulu Michelson and her brothers Ralph and Dwaine Michelson.

Marie was born in Stirling on November 6, 1928. She grew up on the family farm and helped tend her younger siblings. She developed a strong work ethic and enjoyed spending time caring for the animals, especially her dog and horse.

She met George Price at the lunch counter of the old Lethbridge Arena and the two were married on May 10, 1950. Together they spent 56 years creating a home where the door was always open and friends were always welcome.

Marie was a strong and sassy woman who was never afraid to speak her mind or hold back if she had something to say. She had sharp sense of humour, wit and was feisty right until the end, always cracking jokes with the care staff at her home. These traits live on in her granddaughters.

Marie was an excellent cook and baker and there were always cookies, pies, cakes and other goodies waiting to be sampled. She had an incredible sweet tooth and everyone loved her flapjacks, curly bread, caramel popcorn and Christmas candies. While most of the recipes in her book consist only of a loose list of ingredients with no precise measurements or instructions, her favourites will always be on the table at family gatherings.

She loved westerns, horror movies and thrillers – the gorier the better – and was an avid gambler, although not much of a high roller. A few bucks would last her for an entire night playing the slot machines.

Marie had many hobbies and interests including crafting, sewing, crocheting and in her younger years, hiking and bowling. She also enjoyed hunting for bargains at thrift stores and garage sales and nothing pleased her more than getting a great deal. She loved children and cared for many over the years, never hesitating to get down on the floor to play.

The Price home was a hub of activity, full of love, laughter and occasionally a little chaos and drama. It was simply the best place to be and always a central point of gathering for annual holidays, birthdays and other celebrations.

Over the years George and Marie enjoyed travelling with friends and were active members of the Southern Alberta Antique and Classic Auto Club. They took turns hosting weekly coffee sessions with a group of other couples, spent many evenings and weekends listening to Tom and Darren play in their respective bands and took in as many of their grandkids’ activities as possible.

In the mid-1970s they bought a house in Kalispell, Montana which became a favourite spot for summer holidays and was truly Marie’s happy place. The house was rustic but full of charm, like Little House on the Prairie. The stories are endless with so many sweet memories.

But Marie’s greatest joy in life was her family, especially her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed a special relationship with each of them and was also like a second grandma to Robyn, Susan and Kelly Cameron, who lovingly refer to her as “Me-me.”

Marie was a loyal friend to many and loved by all who had the privilege of knowing her. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished.

Special thank-you to the kind staff at St. Mike’s who befriended Marie and cared for her like one of their own. You know who you are.

A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 am, on Wednesday, August 31, 2022 at MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610- 4 STREET SOUTH, Lethbridge, Alberta.
