CAROLYN BAKER

1950-2022

Our very special sister, aunt, and friend Carolyn Baker passed away suddenly in Edmonton, Alberta on August 29, 2022. She was born January 11, 1950 in Lethbridge, Alberta to Virgina Proctor Baker and Bryan Stringham Baker. She spent her youth on the Baker family farm south of Raymond, Alberta.

Carolyn graduated from Raymond High School and went on to attend Ricks College and Brigham Young University. After returning to Canada, she was married and lived in Alberta, British Columbia, and Ontario. She returned to Edmonton in August 2012 to live near her sister Maude.

Family and friends described Carolyn as feisty, fun-loving, and fit. She was very beautiful and loved beautiful clothes and jewelry. She was best known for her unique sense of style and her immaculate home. She enjoyed good food, but was very particular about what she ate. She was passionate about health and wellness and enjoyed walking and doing yoga. She spent her leisure time with friends and family, listening to music, and going to movies. Carolyn was adventurous and loved to travel. She had many memorable trips, including a trip to Montreal with her sisters and a raft trip down the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon. She particularly loved her time in Maine and Mexico where she spent many happy weeks with John and Lynda.

She is survived by her sisters Kathe (David) Thomas and Maude Baker, and brothers Bob (Gloria), Jim (Karla), and John (Lynda), and thirteen nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her former husband Sandy Macpherson, and her two Chinese Chows, Maggie and Charlee.

A Graveside Service and interment will be held Monday, September 12 at 11:00 AM at Temple Hill Cemetery in Raymond.

BANBURY, Elizabeth

Elizabeth Banbury was born in Debrecen, Eastern Hungary and came to Lethbridge in the spring of 1957 with her parents, Steven and Elizabeth Szutorisz and trained as a beautician and hospital attendant.

Elizabeth was the beloved wife of Dr. Lloyd Banbury. She was predeceased by her son Leslie Kark and her parents Steven and Elizabeth Szutorisz.

BONNETT

May 30, 1929 – Sept. 4, 2022

NORMAN ROBERT BONNETT, of Lethbridge, beloved husband of Carolyn Bonnett, passed away peacefully at Fairmont Extendicare on Sunday, September 4, 2022 at the age of 93 years.

Besides his loving wife Carolyn, Norman is survived by his daughters Linda Bonnett and Cheryl (Brian) McTurk, granddaughters Carla (Cory) Kokotailo and Shannon (Dirk) Foster, great-granddaughters Paige and Ava Foster, his brothers Don (Verla) and Wade (Jacquie), sisters Bonnie Hammond and Dorothy Calvert and sister-in-law Leona Bonnett as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, his brothers and sisters-in-law Maurice and Joan, Terry and Alma, Gerald and Diane, brother Allyn Bonnett and brothers-in-law, Cliff Calvert and Murray Hammond and son-in-law Paul Taylor.

Norman was born May 30, 1929 to George and Doris Bonnett on the family farm in Killam, Alberta. He found his calling working as a salesman for John Deere and later, selling Real Estate. Those two jobs were perfect for him as he loved discussing politics and his Edmonton Oilers. Norm had a passion for playing cards and sports, especially golf.

Theresa Boyce

1937 – 2022

Theresa “Terry” Boyce (nee Harty), beloved wife of the late Ronald Boyce, passed away in Lethbridge on Wednesday, August 31, 2022 at the age of 85 years.  

 The burial service will be held at Mountain View Cemetery, Lethbridge on Saturday, September 10, 2022 at 2:00 P.M. with Life Celebrant, Shelly Dawn Bassett officiating. Condolences may be forwarded by visiting our website at http://www.southlandfuneral.com.

 Theresa will be lovingly remembered by her four children: Kate (Wayne), Bev (Alec), Bill (Jane) and their sons Tyson and Caden, and Alan (Pennie) and their son Steven (Kirbi). She is also survived by her brother Tom (Beth), sister Ann (Ray) and by numerous nieces and nephews. She will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by everyone.

 She was predeceased by her husband Ronald, her sister Mary Eva and by her parents and her in-laws. 

 Theresa was born in Foremost to Thomas and Bertha Harty. Along with her brother Tom and sister Ann, she grew up on the family farm east of Milk River. She attended school at Hoping, Alberta and Masinasin, Alberta and graduated in 1955 from Warner High School.

 Following graduation, Theresa worked for Alberta Government Telephones and it was there that she met Ronald Boyce, a rebel with a motorcycle and a love of fast cars. She married Ronald at St. Patrick’s Church in 1957 and they were together until his death thirty five years later.  

 Theresa worked as an administrative support at Catholic Central High School, as the Computer Lab school aide at St. Mary’s and as a part-time computer instructor at Lethbridge Community College. 

 Theresa was amazingly resourceful and creative. In retirement, she enjoyed travel and line dancing. She was always supportive of her children’s activities including athletics, education and motorsports.

Peter Braun

1966 – 2022

Mr. Peter Braun of Coaldale, beloved husband of Mrs. Lisa Braun, passed away suddenly in Coaldale, Alberta, on Friday, September 2, 2022, at the age of 55 years.

Peter was born on December 11, 1966 in Claresholm, Alberta. Pete grew up and spent his life in Coaldale. Some of his younger years were spent in Chin, Alberta. He worked at SRI homes alongside his dad before building pivots all over Alberta. He then worked outside as a carpenter focusing mainly on concrete work where he found his true passion building bridges, spillways and many other structures and projects. Pete was a proud husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed fishing, watching hockey and reading. Some of his favorite things to do with his wife Lisa were camping, road trips, holding hands, spending a lazy day watching movies or grabbing a coffee on a Friday night and walking through Canadian Tire. He treasured any and all time spent with his children. From all of his heartfelt moments with them, just a few of his favorites were watching Mandy become a mother, giving him his first grandchild and knowing she works in the medical field. Watching Dylan graduate from his health care aide program and having a coffee together, talking about life. Knowing Damyn had his kidney transplant, supporting him through that and watching the Price is Right with him. Travelling to watch Keara compete in her cheerleading competitions and knowing she graduated from esthetician school.

Pete was a friend to many.

Besides his wife Lisa, Pete is survived by his daughters Mandy (Steve) Firestone, Keara (Jayden) Braun; sons Dylan Braun, Damyn Gaudek; grandchild Sloan Firestone; brother Bill Braun; sisters Tena (Don) Quiring, Ann (Martin) Harder, Margaret Cargill; mother Tena Bloudoff; numerous nieces, nephews and their families and his fish Clyde.

Pete was predeceased by his father Peter Braun; brother-in-law Don Cargill and great niece Marissa Reynolds.

Ed Ecker

1945 – 2022

 Edward James Ecker, beloved husband of the late Ada Ecker, passed away in Lethbridge on Tuesday, August 30, 2022 at the age of 77 years. Ed went to visit Ada and decided to stay.

 He was predeceased by his wife Ada Ecker, sisters Margaret Afseth and Ann Bohnet and his brothers Ron, Allan, and David Ecker.

 Ed was born in Humboldt, Saskatchewan on January 7, 1945. 

 In 1963, Ed met Ada Strong and they were married on September 25, 1965. They moved to Taber in May of 1970 where they raised their four children. Ed spent his life working in television and radio servicing. He worked for WE TV, Big O, Taber Cablevision and Jensen’s Welding. He was self employed for a period of time, operating Ecker Electronics and later, Taber Video.

  Ed loved technology and always enjoyed A&W. He was a Taber resident for more than fifty years, most recently living at Clearview Lodge.

SCHOEN

JOHN SCHOEN, beloved husband of the late Evelyn Schoen, passed away peacefully at Chinook Regional Hospital on Thursday, September 1, 2022 at the age of 92 years.

John is survived by his son Russell Anthony Schoen of Warner, granddaughter Stephanie (Rudy) Stoesz of Chilliwack, BC and grandson AJ Schoen of Warner, great-grandchildren Emery and Phoenix Stoesz.

John was predeceased by his loving wife Evelyn, his parents Anton and Eliza Schoen, and brothers Tony Schoen and Joe Schoen.

John was born on October 1, 1929 at the Lethbridge Hospital to Anton and Eliza Schoen. John worked two winters in Calgary, AB where he met and later married the love of his life Evelyn. They were married over 64 years until Evelyn’s passing.

John farmed near Warner, custom hauled grain through the 1970s, owned and operated a school bus for close to 20 years. He was a longtime member of the Lion’s Club where one of his projects was co-creating the Village of Warner Lions RV Park. John loved the outdoors. He and Evelyn spent part of their summers during the early years of their marriage hiking and fishing with friends and family at Waterton Park. They later shared this love of the mountains in Waterton and Glacier National Park, MT with their son and grandchildren. For many years, John and Evelyn enjoyed spending some of their winters in California and later Arizona. While there, they always welcomed a visit from their son and grandchildren to share a bit of the snowbird life. John took his family on tours of Utah and Arizona, sharing the places he and Evelyn had explored and enjoyed.

John will be deeply missed by his son, grandchildren and great- grandchildren.

A private Funeral Service will be held at Cornerstone Funeral Home for family and close friends.

John will be laid to rest with his beloved wife Evelyn, in the Warner Cemetery.

Thomas William (Bill) Snowdon

July 27, 1929 – May 21, 2022

Bill passed away peacefully in Kelowna, BC, surrounded by family, after a brief battle with cancer.

Born in Lethbridge, Alberta to Alex & Zona Snowdon, Bill was the second oldest of four children and brother to Donald, Marjorie and Marianne. He met his wife Marion growing up in Lethbridge where they attended school and eventually the University of Alberta. Bill graduated with a Law degree in 1952 and Marion graduated with a Nursing Degree in 1953. They were married in Lethbridge on October 14, 1953 and had three children: Barbara, Susan and Robert.

Before practicing law, Bill worked for the 77 Oil Company that his father Alex Snowdon started in Lethbridge. After a move to Calgary in 1964, Bill began a long and successful career as a lawyer. Bill was passionate about the law and inspired many young people to pursue a law career including his oldest daughter Barbara Jane Snowdon. He tirelessly gave his time and legal advice to friends, family and charities. He was always there to listen and to help. In 1976, Bill received the prestigious “QC” Queen’s Council designation for his exceptional merit and contribution to the legal profession.

Apart from work, Bill loved to garden, and was dedicated to his family and community. He was active in the Anglican Church of Canada, the Al Azhar Shriners of Southern Alberta, the Law Society of Alberta and the Calgary Drop-In & Rehab Centre Society. He was also a Patron of the Arts and Music Communities for decades. Bill was extremely generous and supported over 32 charities in his last year. Bill helped raise three children and made sure they had the support and Education they needed to succeed. He was sure to celebrate every birthday, anniversary and all other important occasions with family and friends. He was always there with his camera in hand…

Bill is survived by his wife Marion, sisters Marianne Fairbanks (Lee), Marjorie O’Brien, son Robert Snowdon, daughter Susan Gilchrist (Colin), granddaughter Myah Gilchrist, son-in-law Bob Coyle and former son-in-law Dale Ellert. He was predeceased by his brother Donald, daughter Barbara Snowdon, daughter-in-law Jeanette Mende, brothers-in-law Terry Williams and Dale O’Brien and niece Laurie O’Brien. He will be greatly missed by many dear friends, family and colleagues.

A small graveside service was held June 20, 2022 in Lethbridge Alberta at Mountainview Cemetery. Donations to the Canadian Cancer Society are appreciated.
