MARCOTTE

HÉLÈNE MARCOTTE passed suddenly but peacefully in her home with her husband by her side in Coaldale, AB on Saturday, September 24, 2022 at the age of 60 years. She is lovingly remembered by her husband, Ian Anderson of Coaldale; her children, Evan (Jenna) Huizing of Sherwood Park, Sara (Adam) Savidant of Sparwood, Denis Huizing (Jacalyn Moore) of Lethbridge; her six beloved grandchildren, Lucas, Royce, Tyson, Edwin, Clara and Peyton; her parents, Claude Marcotte and Monique Ricard of Grosses-Roches, QC; and her siblings, Guy (Laura) Marcotte of Greenwood, NS and Diane Marcotte of Dartmouth, NS.

Hélène was known by many names but most often as Mom and MéMé. Her greatest accomplishment was raising her 3 children. Hélène was a nurturer who loved any little one who wandered into her life, especially her grandchildren. She was a selfless individual that accepted all for who they were: a true down-to-earth individual who only ever longed for one thing, her next opportunity to travel east to the shores of the Saint Lawrence and her hometown of Grosses-Roches. Hélène lived her life to the fullest and always put others first, she never missed an opportunity to remind everyone of how special they were by contacting them on every birthday, anniversary, and special occasion. Her joie de vivre and infectious laugh brightened the day of anyone who had the pleasure of sharing it with her.

There are not enough words to describe the loss of those who are now without their Gypsy Queen.

I love you forever, I like you for always, as long as I’m living my Mommy you’ll be.

Hélène’s family invites you to join them in a celebration of her life. A service will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2825 32 Street South, Lethbridge, AB on Saturday, October 1, 2022 at 11:00 A.M. The service will be livestreamed and may be accessed via Hélène’s obituary on the Cornerstone website.

A reception will follow directly thereafter at the KINSMEN PICNIC SHELTER, 16 Avenue and 23rd St., Coaldale, AB. A group picture will be MANDATORY for all in attendance around 2:00 P.M. in the shelter’s courtyard as she would have wanted.

In lieu of flowers, contributions for final expenses are welcomed and appreciated as this will assist the family with a second service in Grosses-Roches, Quebec.

NISHIYAMA

1927 – 2022

Reyko Nishiyama passed away peacefully with family at her side on September 2, 2022. Mom will be lovingly remembered by her daughters Karen (Ron), Kiyomi (Dan), Dianne (Rick), Robin (Scott) and Candice (Brian). She has left a living legacy of 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by siblings Susumu, Yoko and Etsuko. Reyko was predeceased by Makio, her husband of 64 years and son, Russell.

Mom lived most of her life in Raymond only moving to Lethbridge for her retirement years. She was active in her community and in addition to working outside the home, she volunteered with many organizations including her church and civic groups. She was creative and decorated 100’s of cakes for weddings and special occasions. She loved journaling, reading and crocheting which she did right until her passing. Mom loved to have friends and family drop by her house and was ready to feed them all with Japanese specialties. Her new community at Martha’s House was especially important as she strived to maintain her independent life. Mom had a lifelong devotion to her fitness regimen particularly walking and was often seen doing her circuit around Martha’s House.

Mom was a pragmatic optimist. In the last few years, she was often heard to say “It is what it is”. She accepted what life handed her and lived her life looking for the positive side of people and situations. Her strong will and resilience kept her going after many setbacks and she was known for her smiles and upbeat outlook by all who knew her. We are so thankful to all those who kept in touch with her even during Covid.

Friends gathered through church, karaoke, community and Martha’s House were treasured. Mom’s greatest joy was her family. She especially enjoyed the visits by her grandchildren and “great-grands”.

Flowers and Koden are gratefully declined. Memorial tributes in Reyko’s name would be appreciated by the Buddhist Temple of Southern Alberta in Lethbridge, Martha’s House c/o Covenant Foundation in Edmonton or a charity of your choice.

A Celebration of Reyko’s Life will be held Saturday October 1, 2022 at 11:00 AM in the Aspen Ballroom of the Sandman Signature Hotel at 320 Scenic Dr. S, Lethbridge.
