REGHER, Katherine “Tina”

REGHER 1922 – 2023 We are saddened to announce the passing of KATHERINE “TINA” REGEHR, at Olds Long Term Care, on Friday, February 3, 2023, at 100 years of age.
She will be greatly missed by her daughters Carolyn and Connie and grandchildren Danielle (Jack) and Justin (Jen) and great grandchildren Sawyer, Carver, Miller, Freya, Walker, Jasper, Levi and Benjamin.
Tina Regehr was born in Suworowka, Orenburg, Russia, on September 18, 1922 to Abram and Katherina Pauls. The family came to Canada November 11, 1926 and settled on a farm 15 miles south of Grassy Lake Alberta. She attended the Hudson one room country school for grades 1-9. She spent a year at Coaldale Bible School and took her Grade 10 at PBI in Three Hills.
The next three years were spent working in the Post Office and store in Purple Springs. She worked in the Del Monte Store in Coaldale for six years, where she met Henry Regehr and they were married in 1953. They farmed east of Broxburn and she went to work at the Coaldale IGA for John Martens, in Picture Butte for Dan and Tom Fletcher for a year and a half and Martens Hardware for Will Martens for thirteen years. In 1972, they moved into Coaldale. Henry died in 1975 and Tina and Connie spent three years in the Sunny South Lodge before relocating to Olds, Alberta, to live with Stewart and Carolyn. Here, she was able to watch her great-grandchildren grow and be part of their lives. In November 2021, she moved to Long Term Care in Olds where she celebrated her 100th birthday.
Tina enjoyed bus tours in Canada and the US, and Waterton and Henderson Lake were favorite local destinations. Tina sang with her family group, Praise and Share, at Senior Centers and with the Chapel Singers, at the Lethbridge Correctional Facility and for special events. Hospitality was a big part of her life, and though her house wasn’t big, she hosted many family get-togethers on the farm and her table was never short of baking. She enjoyed her yard and flowers, and summer saw her freezing and canning from her garden. She was a faithful member of the Coaldale Mennonite Brethren Church and said she felt very blessed by her Bible Study group. She enjoyed coffee with friends and maintained that chocolate and ice cream were staples of any good diet. She was competitive in games and preferred a book or puzzles to TV.
