Born at the Cardston Hospital,Tarasina was lovingly named after a very dear friend to her parents, Sister Tarasina McNeil, and her paternal Grandmother Celina Twigg. However, she was affectionately referred to as “Sinaface,” because her dad felt that she had the perfect little face. As a chubby little baby, she was instantly loved and adored by many family and friends, especially her Godparents: Delores and Mylen Red Crow. She was always very protective over her cousins, friends, and her baby brother and sidekick, CJ. Attending Pow Wows from birth, Tarasina was referred to as the family’s “Pow Wow Baby.” She began dancing at a very young age in the Jingle Dress Category. She is well-known for having pioneered a very unique style of dancing which is widely used by other dancers to this day. She also had a very distinct look that made her stand out at competitions. Tarasina won and placed at several dance competitions throughout her lifetime. She and her best friend Taylor Bastien shared a love of dancing and were rarely far from each other at Pow Wows. At 11 years old, she was officially initiated into the Pow Wow Circle. Her unique style of dance and dress, made her a favourite for various Pow Wow Posters, Advertisements, and News Articles. Along with a love for Pow Wows, she also attended many ceremonies, bundle openings, and the Sundance where she would offer to help as much as she could. She always loved wearing her ceremony dresses and bandanas. Dancing was her life’s passion, she loved traveling to as many Pow Wows as she could, where she would camp and spend time with family and friends. She was also very dedicated to her Catholicism and was an altar server throughout her childhood and teens at All Saints Parish. Tarasina also participated in many Searches, and had a special devotion to Saint Kateri.
Tarasina met the love of her life, Cobin Young Pine, at the age of 16 years old. They were one of the sweetest couples you would ever meet. They lovingly welcomed the birth of their son Cobin Jr. in 2012, they were then married on October 4, 2014, and celebrated the birth of their precious daughter Kateri in October 2015. Tragically, Cobin was killed in an accident in January 2016. Although she was absolutely devastated by the loss of her loving husband, her love for her babies gave her strength to carry on.
In December 2018, she met JD Potts, and quickly formed close bonds with his mother, Dolly Yellow Wings, and sister, Terrace Yellow Wings. Spending time with them and her friends and family were always very important to Tarasina. Her friends were very important to her and she served as a Bridesmaid and Maid of Honour to several of them throughout the years. She will be greatly missed by so many.
Tarasina completed her primary schooling in the Holy Spirit School Division, and later graduated from the Lethbridge Community College with a Diploma in Marketing in July of 2018. She also attended the Purely Inspired Beauty Academy from September 2018 to June 2019. She loved working with Mary Ann Crow-Healy at the Blackfoot Art Gallery. She also loved teaching Jingle Dress Dance lessons and taught many crafting and beading classes as well.
