LEVERETT, Anthony “Tony” ANTHONY “TONY” LEVERETT 1937 – 2023 Anthony (Tony) Leverett of Lethbridge, beloved husband of Shelagh, passed away suddenly on March 24, 2023, after a short and cruel battle with Mesothelioma. He was 85 years old, which may come as a shock to many people who knew him, as Tony was eternally youthful.
Tony was born in London, England to Frederick Leverett and Eva (Garvey). He was employed as a double decker bus driver for London Transport before emigrating to Canada in December 1970, where he practiced his trade as a barber at various establishments, before opening his own barber shop at the Sandman Inn, Tony’s Barber Shop. Tony made many friends of clients, some of whom had been coming to him for over 50 years. The sudden onset of mesothelioma forced Tony into early retirement, otherwise he may never have retired. Tony really enjoyed working and conversing with his clients about many subjects, but mainly sports. Tony’s first love, other than his family, was soccer, followed by baseball and basically all sports. He always had music playing in his shop, especially big band. He had many pictures of Marilyn Monroe around the walls, he was a fan, and clients would tell him they came for the entertainment as well as the haircut. Tony had a great sense of humour and kept his family, friends and clients laughing over the years with his stories.
Tony met Shelagh in 1967, and immediately knew they had found their soul mate in each other. They married in 1969 before moving to Canada in 1970. Tony promised Shelagh that it would only be for one year, but Canada became their forever home. They enjoyed 53 years of a wonderful marriage. Their first child, Sean, came along in 1973 with Sarah following closely in 1974. Tony is survived by his devoted wife Shelagh, his beloved children, Sean (Miranda), Sarah (Rob) and his pride and joy grandchildren, Andrea, Amanda (Luke), Matthew, Kyle and Hannah.
Tony was a wonderful husband, Dad and Grandad and his passing has left a huge hole in all of our lives. Tony will be missed and loved forever.
As per Tony’s wishes, a private family service will be held.
Flowers are gratefully declined. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alberta Cancer Society.

JOBS, Gaye GAYE JOBS 1943 – 2023 Gaye (Eleanor) Jobs of Lethbridge, passed away at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Thursday, March 9, 2023, at the age of 80 years.
Gaye enjoyed her home at Halmrast Manor for the last 20 years. Although a very private person, she was also very generous, especially to those needing a handout. One of her skills was mending, which she offered to anyone needing help with a hem or a button. A charming article in the Herald called her “Betsy Ross…Canadian Style”.
Gaye will be dearly remembered and sorely missed by her son, Llewellyn and all who knew her.
A private ceremony took place on April 1, 2023.

LUU, Tich TICH CHAU LUU 1922 – 2023 Tich Chau Luu passed away at his care home in Lethbridge, Alberta on March 27, 2023, surrounded by family.
Tich was born on February 2, 1922, in Chaozhou in the Canton province of China. His father passed away when Tich was just 4 years old, prompting his mother to leave him in the care of his uncle, so she could become a nanny in Hong Kong and save the money she needed to make a way for the both of them. Together, they moved to Saigon, Vietnam when he was a teenager.
There, Tich began working tirelessly and eventually followed his entrepreneurial spirit to open his own family restaurant. He met and married Cuc Trang Luu, the love of his life. They raised 4 sons and 3 daughters, building a happy life, while working together to grow their successful business.
In 1985, after the fallout from the Vietnam War, he emigrated with his family to Lethbridge, Alberta. Again, forced to re-build in unfamiliar territory, Tich and Cuc persevered and provided love, support and care, not only to their children, but also their grandchildren. While their kids were now the ones to venture out to make their way, Tich and Cuc provided by helping raise all of their grandchildren while ensuring that there was always a delicious meal on the table by dinner time. Tich was particularly dotting and his grandchildren will always remember the love and attention he poured into them.
Through the years, Tich has been able to watch his grandchildren graduate university, meet their own partners, and become proud working Canadians. Tich’s family is so grateful for the years they had with him. Their hearts will be forever imprinted with his commitment to family, his quick wit and sense of humour, and the bi-annual dinners that brought them all home together. They wish him peace now, as he returns to his dear Cuc.
Tich is survived by his son Minh Quang Luu (Thi), daughter Ve Linh Ngo (Quang), daughter Ve Quan Hong (Tich Leng), son Ve Hoa Luu (Iris), sons Te Hoa Luu and Tieu Minh Luu, and daughter Minh Chau Pham (Tuan); as well as his grandchildren Kelly (Ian), Joanne (Zeke), Kevin (Joanne), Jason (Emily), Kathy, Justin, Dagan (Amy), Danny, Stephen, Kristy, Duong Truck Vy and Duong Gia Han.

KINNIBURGH, Eleanor KINNIBURGH Eleanor Daisy Kinniburgh (nee Jones), wife of the late Fred Kinniburgh enjoyed her last sip of Pepsi surround by her family on Saturday April 1, 2023, at the age of 74 years.
Survived by children, Sandi (Bernny) Keujer of Raymond, Dave (Darla) Kinniburgh of Edmonton and Stu (Janelle) Kinniburgh of Lethbridge. Grandchildren, Karli (Justin) Barsness, Taya (Dustin) O’Donnell, Chad (Rebecca) Keujer, Lexie, Chayne and Lawson Kinniburgh, and Bailey and Taylor Kinniburgh. And 4 great grandchildren, Hunter and Kenley Barsness and Jasper and Kessler O’Donnell. She is also survived by her sister, Kathleen (Leonard) Sanderson and many other family members. Daisy was born June 16, 1948, in Medicine Hat. She grew up in Grassy Lake helping her parents run the family store. Her love of all animals was the reason she was drawn to country life. No matter whether she was in town, on the farm or on an acreage, horses always had a special place in her heart.
She met Fred in 1965 and started their family shortly there after then moved to Lethbridge. Mom spent many years holding down the fort and running kids to sporting events, 4-H, school and many other activities, while Dad was busy keeping the power on to keep the Pepsi cold in the fridge. It didn’t matter if it was for her kids, grandkids, or even great grand kids, she always loved tagging along to any activity or event. Mom LOVED to travel, and when she wasn’t doing that, golf, cards, bowling, or any other hobbies, that got her out of the house was enjoyed.
A private service will be held for Mom, followed by a reception where family and friends are invited to gather for Daisy’s final sip. In Lieu of flowers, if you so desire, donations can be made to Epilepsy Canada.
Come share one last Pepsi for Daisy with us at the Italian Canadian Club – Thursday, April 6, 2-4pm at. 1511 St. Edward Blvd N. Lethbridge, AB.
