LEIER, Evelyn

EVELYN SUSIE LEIER 1930 – 2023 Evelyn Susie Leier, beloved wife of Philip Donald Leier and a very dear and beautiful loving mother, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 2, 2023, at the age of 93 years.
Evelyn was born a coal miner’s daughter from Hardieville, Alberta. She is survived by her loving husband Philip Donald Leier; sons Dale Philip Leier, Donald James Leier; daughter Teresa Jean Leier; grandchildren Brandon Blake Leier, Michael Shaun Leier (Kellee Rae); great-grandchildren Aiden Trevor Michael Kruse, Camryn Grace Leier; family pooch Charlotte Elizabeth Leier and her friends.
Evelyn was predeceased by her parents George and Nellie Thomas; brothers Gordon Harold Thomas, Frank Edward Thomas and her sister Gladys J. Sawdon nee Thomas.
Evelyn “Susie” will be remembered for her unyielding love for her family, her beautiful and unforgettable smile, her forgiving personality and her love of the outdoors. Evelyn would often spend many hours outside sitting on her deck and enjoying the beauty of nature no matter what the weather followed by long visits with family and the daily shot of the 5 o’clock news.
Evelyn in her younger years was very athletic and walked daily from her beloved childhood home at the northwest corner of Hardieville to downtown Lethbridge and back again to facilitate her very first job at Frache’s Greenhouse, followed by employment at Lee Duck Cleaners. Rather than pursue career orientated employment, Evelyn chose a quiet home life focused on family and raising her children. Gifted with many incredible talents, her cooking and baking skills had no equal. Evelyn was most notable for her unparalleled success and abilities in roller skating, often associated with events, shows and competitions. Her accomplishments in the sport remained memorable for many years later.
Our family sends a special thank you for the incredible efforts of the amazing doctor and nursing staff at Chinook Regional Hospital, where she received outstanding care.
A Private Family viewing will be held on Thursday, June 8, 2023, at MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPELS, followed by an interment for close family and friends at her final resting place in the ROYAL VIEW CEMETERY.
In lieu of flowers, gifts or donations, please embrace your family members and loved ones as time with them is precious and short.
Forever in our hearts, rest in peace mom.
