STEUDLER, Chris STEUDLER, Chris July 8, 1955 – May 29, 2023 It is with great shock and sadness that we announce the passing of Chris Steudler. He passed away peacefully in his sleep at home. Chris was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed travel, hiking, biking, fishing, back-country skiing, and cross-country skiing – always planning his next adventure. He took a lot of care, time, and dedication to his garden – his most cherished pastime. He spent over 35 years working as a geologist for many oil and gas companies and truly enjoyed his work, which showed in his love and knowledge of rock formations wherever he was. He was a very active volunteer for organizations not only in the community of Varsity but in many others as well and a soccer coach when his children were young. His involvement in the church community was dear to his heart. Chris was always willing to help others. He will be truly missed by all who knew him. He lived his life fully!
He leaves behind his loving wife of 40 years, Nancy; his children, Carl (Karla), Lynn (Alex), Laura (Corny), and Paul; his two grandsons, Jacob, and William; his siblings Evelyn (Al), Michael, and Barbara; his in-laws, Wayne (Claire), Jane (Dave), Karen, Joyel (George); many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and relatives across Canada, Germany, and Switzerland. Friends and family are invited to the prayer service at St. Bernard’s Church (711 37 St N.W, Calgary) on Friday, June 9, 2023, at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Bernard’s Church on Saturday, June 10, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. For friends and family who are unable to attend the Mass, a live stream will be available. Following the Funeral Mass, family, and friends are invited for a time of sharing and fellowship at Varsity Community Center (4303 Varsity Dr. NW). The family wishes to honor Chris’ passion and his deep affection for the mountain trails he so loved. In lieu of customary gestures like flowers, they kindly request you consider contributing to the Alberta Trailnet Society. Your gracious donations will be channeled directly towards preserving and maintaining these trails, a cause that was dear to Chris’ heart. BLACKWATER, Cassidy BLACKWATER Cassidy Rae Blackwater passed away on June 1, 2023 at the age of 28 years. She will be missed by her children Hayden, Rylan, Amelia and Myla.
A Wake Service will be held at the Senator Gladstone Hall, Blood Reserve on Friday, June 16, 2023 from 3:00 – 10:00 pm. The Funeral Service will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Blood Reserve on Saturday June 17, 2023 at 11:00 am. Interment will take place in St. Catherine’s Cemetery.

LEIER, Evelyn EVELYN SUSIE LEIER 1930 – 2023 Evelyn Susie Leier, beloved wife of Philip Donald Leier and a very dear and beautiful loving mother, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 2, 2023, at the age of 93 years.
Evelyn was born a coal miner’s daughter from Hardieville, Alberta. She is survived by her loving husband Philip Donald Leier; sons Dale Philip Leier, Donald James Leier; daughter Teresa Jean Leier; grandchildren Brandon Blake Leier, Michael Shaun Leier (Kellee Rae); great-grandchildren Aiden Trevor Michael Kruse, Camryn Grace Leier; family pooch Charlotte Elizabeth Leier and her friends.
Evelyn was predeceased by her parents George and Nellie Thomas; brothers Gordon Harold Thomas, Frank Edward Thomas and her sister Gladys J. Sawdon nee Thomas.
Evelyn “Susie” will be remembered for her unyielding love for her family, her beautiful and unforgettable smile, her forgiving personality and her love of the outdoors. Evelyn would often spend many hours outside sitting on her deck and enjoying the beauty of nature no matter what the weather followed by long visits with family and the daily shot of the 5 o’clock news.
Evelyn in her younger years was very athletic and walked daily from her beloved childhood home at the northwest corner of Hardieville to downtown Lethbridge and back again to facilitate her very first job at Frache’s Greenhouse, followed by employment at Lee Duck Cleaners. Rather than pursue career orientated employment, Evelyn chose a quiet home life focused on family and raising her children. Gifted with many incredible talents, her cooking and baking skills had no equal. Evelyn was most notable for her unparalleled success and abilities in roller skating, often associated with events, shows and competitions. Her accomplishments in the sport remained memorable for many years later.
Our family sends a special thank you for the incredible efforts of the amazing doctor and nursing staff at Chinook Regional Hospital, where she received outstanding care.
A Private Family viewing will be held on Thursday, June 8, 2023, at MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPELS, followed by an interment for close family and friends at her final resting place in the ROYAL VIEW CEMETERY.

MACHACEK, Agnes MACHACEK AGNES MARY MACHACEK, of Lethbridge, beloved wife of Frank Machacek, passed away peacefully at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Saturday, June 3, 2023 at the age of 85 years.
Besides her beloved husband, she will be missed by her children: Cyril (Deb), Teresa (Greg), Greg (Lucy) and Chris; her grandchildren: Jessie (Jay), Myranda (Michael), Rylan, Cassidy, Jared, Georgia, Eva, Luciana and Lucas; and great-granddaughter Kennedy. Agnes is also survived by her brother Jerry (Joan) Hrncirik and brother-in-law Ben Kempenaar, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents Vencil and Marie, brother Louis and sister Lily.
Agnes was born on the farm in Turin on Aug 20, 1937 – a day filled with stooking and harvesting a ripening crop. Agnes was raised as the third child and first daughter of Vencil and Marie Hrncirik; she was the apple of her daddy’s eye. She worked hard on the farm helping with everything, from kitchen chores, to gardening, caring for farm animals and working in the fields. She graduated from Turin High School and moved to Calgary, where she completed her Nursing Certificate from the Holy Cross Hospital. She nursed for a number of years in Calgary before going to Halifax and earning a Certificate in Public Health Nursing from Dalhousie University. She returned to Lethbridge to work and that was where she met a tall, handsome farm boy named Frank and married him on June 25, 1966, moving to the farm in Barnwell.
After the birth of the three eldest children, Frank and Agnes purchased a farm by Skiff and moved there to raise their family. Life was filled with farm work, farm animals and pets, gardening, cooking and running kids around. Agnes returned to nursing on a part-time basis, working for the Barons-Eureka-Warner Health Unit as a Home Care Nurse, a job that she loved and got much satisfaction from.
Agnes and Frank enjoyed many years of traveling over the years, near and far, to Australia, New Zealand, Czech Republic, Europe, Alaska, Hawaii, Mexico, Dominican Republic, and Central America, as well as around US and Canada. They settled into Martha’s House Community and have resided there up enjoying a comfortable life and wonderful friends.
A Prayer Service will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2825 – 32 Street South, Lethbridge, AB on Thursday, June 8, 2023 at 7:00 P.M. with Sharon Hagel officiating.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at OUR LADY OF THE ASSUMPTION CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2405 – 12 Avenue South, Lethbridge, AB on Friday, June 9, 2023 at 1:30 P.M. with Father Kevin Tumback celebrating. The Funeral Mass will be live-streamed and may be viewed through Agnes’ obituary on the Cornerstone website.
Agnes will be laid to rest in Mountain View Cemetery.

CHIEF MOON, Stella CHIEF MOON We are saddened by the loss of our sister, STELLA ANNE CHIEF MOON. She passed away on Wednesday, May 31, 2023, in her home town of Calgary, Alberta, at the age of 58 years.
