VARGO, Aplona “Al”

VARGO Mrs. Aplona (Al) Catherine Vargo – nee King passed away surrounded by family on September 7, 2023 at the age of 96.
Al was born in Heisler, AB on July 9, 1927 and then moved to Whitla, AB as a young child. She lived on the family farm with her parents, John and Rose and 4 sisters – Lena, Mary, Ann and Helen. She always had fond memories of her time on the farm; making ice-cream, pulling taffy, driving the tractor and singing and dancing at parties in their home.
After high school Al moved to Lethbridge to work and there, she met John Vargo. They were married in 1944 and had 4 children together. Judy, Robert, Peggy and Darin. Al and John raised their family in Lethbridge and were active members at St. Basil Church.
While her children were at home, Al sold Avon products for many years and enjoyed taking care of her clients.
Once all of their children were grown, Al started working at Simpsons-Sears in the ladies department and worked there for 12 years.
Al and John both retired in 1983 and spent many years traveling together in their fifth wheel and fishing at Beauvais Lake.
Al will fondly be remembered by her sons, Robert Vargo and Darin Vargo, daughter Peggy (Bruce) Plausteiner, along with many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
She is predeceased by her parents, John and Rose King, her loving husband John Vargo and daughter Judy Gschaid.
A private memorial mass and burial was held on September 12, 2023, arrangements by Zentner Funeral Homes.

VERLOOP, Neeltje

NEELTJE MARIA VERLOOP 1938 – 2023 Mrs. Neeltje Verloop of Picture Butte, beloved wife of the late Mr. Cornelis Verloop, passed away peacefully in sure and certain hope of eternal life on Sunday, September 10, 2023 at the Chinook Regional Hospital at the age of 85 years.
A private family graveside service will be held on Friday, September 15, 2023, God willing at the Archmount Cemetery, Lethbridge, Alberta.

INNIS, Gordon

INNIS Gordon William Maclyn (Mac) Innis passed away Sept. 7, 2023 at Garden Vista, Magrath, 38 days short of his 101st birthday.
Predeceased by his wife Anne, he is survived by 5 children, 18 grandchildren and 34+ great grandchildren. John (Mereda) Innis – Kamloops BC; Kathy (Roy) Harker – Magrath; Rhonda (Don) Crawford – Finchville, Kentucky; Paul (Laureen) Innis – Park City, Utah; Donna (Randy) Martin – Brownstown, Indiana.
Mac, born Oct 15, 1922 in Australia, was a veteran of the Australian Army WW2, serving in Papua New Guinea, Rabaul and Boganville. Mac and Anne immigrated to Canada in 1950. He careered with AGT, lived in Alberta and BC, and was loved by all.
He whistled his way through life, was faithful in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving 3 missions, had an amazing sense of humour and was always a gentleman. Mac was a ham radio operator, loved to sing and will forever be known for “Danny Boy”.
Services will be held Saturday, September 16, 2023 – greet the family at 11:00 – 11:45 am followed by the service at 12:00. Magrath LDS Stake Center, 21 E 1 Ave S. in Magrath.

KIRBY, Marie “Pat”

KIRBY MARIE “PAT” PATRICIA KIRBY (née Blakey) was born on February 7, 1939, in Preston, Lancashire, England to her beloved parents, Harry and Jenny Blakey. On Wednesday, September 6, 2023 Pat passed away leaving behind cherished memories and a lasting legacy.
A Prayer Service will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2825 – 32 Street South, Lethbridge, AB, on Saturday, September 16, 2023 at 3:00 P.M. with Sharon Hagel officiating.

VAN ROON, Cornelius “Casey”

VAN ROON It is with great sadness we share that CORNELIS “CASEY” VAN ROON, of Lethbridge, AB, passed away peacefully at the Chinook Regional Hospital with his wife and four children by his side, on Saturday, September 9, 2023 at the age of 83 years.
Casey is survived by his loving wife Heidi; his children Wanda (Darrin), Tracey (Darren), Craig (Anne) and David (Kim); and ten grandchildren: Melissa (Josh), Matthew, Cole (Marissa), Zac (Emily), Kiley (Tristan), Alex, Cade, Lauren, Emily and Olivia; as well as his great-grandson, Quinn. He is also survived by his sisters: Audrey, Riet and Anne; and his brother Pete (Wilma).
Casey was predeceased by his father Corstiaan, his mother Trijntje, his brother John and brothers-in-law, Albert, Herman and Cyril.
Casey emigrated from the Netherlands to Canada with his family in June of 1952, settling in Iron Springs for many years. He married Heidi, the love of his life and they shared 60 happy years together.
Casey loved his family deeply and was our hero. With a dog at his side, he was passionate about riding his Harley and restoring old trucks. He loved the Lord and was committed to discipling and mentoring young men through Christian Service Brigade. For many years, he specialized in the ministry of constructing church buildings throughout southern Alberta. He is remembered as a genuine, honest, and generous man of integrity. He was fun to be around, and worked and played hard, leaving us with many fond memories. We love you Casey and will miss you always.
Heidi and the kids would like to express their appreciation to all those who have offered words of comfort, prayers, and support. We are also thankful for the amazingly compassionate doctors and nurses of Chinook Regional Hospital Emergency, Unit 5A and 3B.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
