FORSMAN, Ron “Barney” RONALD “BARNEY” FORSMAN 1955 – 2023 Ron “Barney” Forsman of Lethbridge, passed away in his home of natural causes on Tuesday, September 5, 2023, at the age of 67 years.
Barney’s entire career was spent at Canada Post, retiring in 2008 after 34 years (and not a moment to soon, to hear him say it). He had many interests, music being foremost, growing beautiful flowers, especially orchids, and he was a big fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs. He played floor hockey and golfed with an irrepressible group of characters who would become like family. Barney never met a puff he didn’t like or a nickel he wouldn’t spend on others or himself.
Although he faced many trials in his life, Barney always met them head on, living his life in his own unique way.
Special thanks to his Decapo caregivers, especially Cheryl and neighbors, and Pepe his crib partner.
He is survived by his brother Ken (Lena); three nephews; one niece; his sister-in-law; his cat Florence and a small circle of true friends.
He was predeceased by his mom Mia, Dad Floyd and brother Don.
A come and go Celebration will be held on Barney’s birthday, Sunday, October 15, 2023, from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm at 1820, 2A Avenue North.

KADING, Patricia Patricia Ann Mamie Kading August 24th, 1932 – October 8th, 2023 Patricia Ann Mamie (nee McGowan) Kading passed away October 8th, 2023, at the age of 91 years. Pat was born August 24th, 1932, in Weyburn, SK, the second oldest child of Sargent and Muriel McGowan. In the summer of 1934, the family packed up their belongings and moved to homestead between Northside and Paddockwood, SK. She went to an one-room schoolhouse for her grade school years, then travelled to Paddockwood for high school. Then she went to Saskatoon to attend Normal School for one year to become a teacher. Pat taught in a one-room schoolhouse in northern Saskatchewan until 1955 when she moved to Cold Lake, AB to teach at the local school. At a Sadie Hawkins dance in February 1956, she met the love of her life, Mr. Bernard Kading. On July 8th, 1956, they were married in Prince Albert, with the following reception at the McGowan family farm. They had three children, Brenda in 1957, Terrance in 1962, and Lianne in 1967. Due to Ben’s work with the Federal Government, they moved around a lot (Cold Lake, Edmonton, Cambridge Bay, Wrigley, Stettler) before finally settling in Lethbridge. Pat was often called upon to teach in some of these locations, but in Lethbridge she chose to work for Sears. During their retirement years, they travelled extensively to visit family, friends, or simply for enjoyment (many provinces, Guatemala, Belize, Germany, United States, and a cruise through the Caribbean). They also loved camping through the summers with their trailer and later a motorhome. In 2016, Pat and Ben moved to Medicine Hat to reside in a retirement home (Meadowlands) and later moved together into a nursing home (Riverview).
She was predeceased by her parents (Sargent and Muriel McGowan); her husband, (Bernard Kading); her brother and sister-in-law (Sargent and Mary McGowan); her older sister (Merle McGowan); her younger sister and brother-in-law (Phyllis and Donald Kirychuk); a nephew (David McGowan); and her other sister-in-law (Beverly Kading). She is survived by her three children, Lianne Kading, Terrance Kading (Keely McKibben) and Brenda (Gordon) Aisman, who have two children and a grandson. The grandchildren are Richard Aisman, Ruth (Deric) Cole, with the great grandson, Everett Cole. She is also survived by her youngest sister, Ruth (Larry) Fawcett; brother-in-law, Ervine Kading; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Donations in Pat’s memory may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.

WANDLER, Joseph “Joe” JOSEPH “JOE” WANDLER 1949 – 2023 Mr. Joseph “Joe” Raymond Wandler of Coalhurst, beloved husband of Mrs. Betty Wandler, passed away peacefully at Chinook Regional Hospital on Monday, October 9, 2023, at the age of 73 years.
Joe’s love for his wife Betty, his children and grandchildren was unconditional, and spending time with them was something he loved. He was passionate about playing hockey and played on the Wilkie Mustangs and the Wilkie Outlaws. He was also a member of the Coalhurst Legion and served in the Navy League.
He worked in fiberglass for 47 years, and loved to show us all of the finished products that he was so proud of. He even made a dune buggy out of fiberglass with his son. Joe also loved going camping with his family, coaching baseball and watching his children and grandchildren play sports.
After retirement, dad (grandpa) grew fond of puzzles, diamond art and listening to old country music. The love dad had for mom was incredible as she was his everything and he was hers. We believe that the 54 years of marriage and love kept our dad (grandpa) with us longer than he had to be. He loved us with all he had, and we loved him so very much, but now he can rest in peace.

SMITH, Marie SMITH Marie Smith of Lethbridge, beloved wife of the late Eric Smith passed away suddenly on Saturday, September 2, 2023 at the age of 91 years.
Marie was born to Mary & Michael Bilcik on December 9, 1931, in Tilley, Alberta. The Bilcik family, including Marie, her four sisters and a brother, grew up farming near Tilley. The family relocated to Turin after Michael bought some land just before the beginning of World War II. There were many fun and happy gatherings at that big farmhouse.
It was while working as a waitress at the old Marquis Hotel, that Marie met and fell in love with Eric Smith. The couple were married in January 1955 and moved to a wonderful neighbourhood on 13th Street South in Lethbridge. Eric & Marie welcomed two sons, first came Bruce and then Robert. They often spent their summers down in Cour’d Alene alongside their neighbours spending time on the beach and enjoying each others company.
It was after Rob went off to school that Marie began working with Imperial Jewellers in Lethbridge. Marie worked alongside Agnes learning the front counter and from time to time, helping with bookkeeping. Helen, Maries’ sister, as well as a few other ladies joined the team at Imperial Jewellers and their clientele started calling them “The Golden Girls” because they were so entertaining!
In 1997 Eric & Marie decided to sell their home on 13th Street South and downsize to their Condo at The Village Green Condos, where she lived until her passing.
Marie will be lovingly remembered by her two sons, Bruce (Karin) Smith and Rob (Diana) Smith; grandchildren Alexandra Smith, Robbert (Ruth) Pique; great-grandchildren Marcus, Tiffany and Rayah; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and their families.
Our mother was a gift, if given the chance she would be our mother again and again in any and every lifetime. She was a giver and had a deep, warm heart no matter the circumstance. She leaves a void in each and every life she touched and will be deeply missed.
A Celebration of Marie’s life will be held at 1:00pm on Thursday, October 19, 2023 at CHRISTENSEN SALMON GENERATIONS FUNERAL HOME, 703-13th Street North, Lethbridge.
Marie’s ashes will be laid to rest with her beloved Eric on Friday, October 20, 2023 in the Mountain View Cemetery.
