SMITH, Marie
SMITH Marie Smith Marie Smith of Lethbridge, beloved wife of the late Eric Smith passed away suddenly on Saturday, September 2, 2023 at the age of 91 years.
Marie was born to Mary & Michael Bilcik on December 9, 1931, in Tilley, Alberta. The Bilcik family, including Marie, her four sisters and a brother, grew up farming near Tilley. The family relocated to Turin after Michael bought some land just before the beginning of World War II. There were many fun and happy gatherings at that big farmhouse.
It was while working as a waitress at the old Marquis Hotel, that Marie met and fell in love with Eric Smith. The couple were married in January 1955 and moved to a wonderful neighbourhood on 13th Street South in Lethbridge. Eric & Marie welcomed two sons, first came Bruce and then Robert. They often spent their summers down in Coeur d’Alene alongside their neighbours spending time on the beach and enjoying each others company.
It was after Rob went off to school that Marie began working with Imperial Jewellers in Lethbridge. Marie worked alongside Agnes learning the front counter and from time to time, helping with bookkeeping. Helen, Maries’ sister, as well as a few other ladies joined the team at Imperial Jewellers and their clientele started calling them “The Golden Girls” because they were so entertaining!
In 1997 Eric & Marie decided to sell their home on 13th Street South and downsize to their Condo at The Village Green Condos, where she lived until her passing.
Marie will be lovingly remembered by her two sons, Bruce (Karin) Smith and Rob (Diana) Smith; grandchildren Alexandra Smith, Robbert (Ruth) Pique, Amber Lowe, and John Weiers; great-grandchildren Marcus, Tiffany, and Rayah; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and their families.
Our mother was a gift, if given the chance she would be our mother again and again in any and every lifetime. She was a giver and had a deep, warm heart no matter the circumstance. She leaves a void in each and every life she touched and will be deeply missed.
