PHEONA SLOBODA
1945 – 2023

Well mom, today (Oct 27, 2023) you finally did it. You escaped from here as quietly unassuming as you lived. Who would have guessed that you Pheona Sloboda (nee Kuehn) would have snuck out of the Milk River Health Care Center as simply as you did? “See you tomorrow” you said; little did we know you were referring to Grama Dorothy (nee Woitte), Grampa Wes (Kuehn) and Uncle Harold (Kuehn)!
While you are busy catching up, don’t forget to tell them Ed, Wendy (Keith Routley), Jackie (Toby Poncelet) Tyson, Chase, and Peyton Poncelet; Kaleb and Kolton Routley all say HIIIII! I will also presume, Auntie Lorraine, Uncle Randy (Karen) and Uncle Farley all want you to give a “howdy do” from them as well. While you are at it, I bet all the nieces and nephew (shut up spell check, you don’t know everything, there IS only one) would be happy if you included a greeting from them too!
When we next see you, I will be so excited to see your new orchid collection, hear all about what Dr Pohl is doing and enjoy a good giggle with you talking about Screwball’s antics. Be prepared to bake some cookies and share some gossip about the going’s on around there, we will be stocking up… until we see you again, love you mom.
Family and friends are invited to join us in remembering Pheona at 11:00 am, Tuesday November 7, 2023, at MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610, 4 STREET SOUTH, Lethbridge, Alberta.
In Lieu of flowers, we ask that you hug your family extra tight and remind them you love them every day, because you never know when it will be the last time!

RUTH MUMMERY

Ruth Edith Mummery, 90, of Lethbridge, Alberta, passed away on 21 October 2023. Ruth was born to parents Maurice Roach and Lavirga Roach, on 18 July 1933 in Kenora, Ontario.
Ruth met Russell Mummery in Minnedosa, MB. They were subsequently married on August 29, 1953 in Brandon MB. Together they raised three children: Valerie, Bradley and Susan.
Ruth worked at the Victoria IGA during her early married life; then later in the bakery and meat departments at Brandon Safeway for several years.
Ruth’s greatest passion was her family. Especially when her children and grandchildren were young, Ruth enjoyed sewing and knitting for them as well as babysitting the little ones. Mom was an awesome cook and baker who regularly baked homemade bread and ‘overnight’ buns; both legendary among family. We three children recall the aroma of her baking as a ‘magnetic’ force keeping us even closer to home than usual. She loved gardening and was a regular at bingo.
Ruth cherished a simpler lifestyle. She had a great sense of humor and is remembered as the life of a party. She enjoyed country music and singing funny songs to entertain her grandchildren. She loved telling jokes, had an infectious laugh and could play almost anything on the piano by ear.
Mom’s legacy includes a selfless giving nature and she is remembered fondly by friends and family as a kind, loving friend.
Ruth is survived by her children Valerie Exner, Bradley, Susan Zubach (Michael); grandchildren David (Melissa), Ainslie, Aura, Morgan and Devon; great grandchildren Roya and Leven, brother Daniel (Paulette), brother-in-law Robert (Helen) Mummery, in addition to numerous extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Russell, siblings Eleanor, Patrick, Laurence, Maureen, Dolma, in addition to several brothers/sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and other extended family.
The family extends many thanks to staff at Edith Cavell Care Centre for taking such good care of Mom during her final years. Thank you as well to the compassionate caregivers who assisted her during stays at Chinook Regional Hospital. Thanks also to the dedicated members of our local police, fire, ems services and handibus drivers, who had all assisted both our parents in the past.
Plans include cremation with a private family ceremony to be held at a later date. The family has entrusted Salmon and Sons, Lethbridge, AB with arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice. To share condolences on-line, visit https://www.salmonandsons.ca/obituary/Ruth-Mummery
