LEBLANC, George “Allen”
LEBLANC June 3, 1947 – December 11, 2023 GEORGE “ALLEN” LEBLANC beloved husband of Robin Gemer, passed away peacefully at home in Lethbridge, AB, on Monday, December 11, 2023 at the age of 76 years.
Allen leaves behind his sons: Jeff (Amanda) and Patrick (Christa); and daughter Susan (Justin); their mother Laura LeBlanc, and his brothers: Lloyd (Diane), Michael, and Dennis (Elsie). He also is mourned by nine grandchildren who knew and loved him both as Grandpa Al and Grandpa George: Shaun (Garret), Ethan (Brianna), Ainsley (Darnell), Callahan, Sophie, Isabelle, Jérémy, Piper, and Hadley. Born in Quebec, and moving often in his youth, Allen settled and lived in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario for over 40 years, working as an educator, cheering for the Soo Greyhounds, mastering the art of finding treasures at yard sales and auctions, and most important to him, raising his family. He proudly completed his MBA, taught university courses, learned to swim in his late 30’s, was hard to beat at Jeopardy, and could usually be found with several newspapers at his side. After retiring he spent his years often travelling Canada coast to coast visiting family and friends before finding a new home in the city of Lethbridge, Alberta.
In Lethbridge, Allen leaves behind his dearest wife of over 12 years, Robin Gemer and her family: Sydney, George, Tara, Mark, Jackson, and Jasper, who welcomed him into their hearts and homes. We are forever grateful for the tremendous care provided by his entire healthcare team, but especially by Robin, whose unwavering dedication, love, and support gave him the strength to continue even on the most difficult days in their journey.
A Celebration of Allen’s life will take place at a later date. In the meantime, we thank everyone for their kind words, condolences, and stories about Al, and share some of his best advice – always listen to the little voice in the back of your head, always look for a good bargain, always wear good shoes, and always, always, buy the good toilet paper.
Allen was a strong believer in furthering one’s education and that hard work and dedication, paired with training and learning opportunities, could open doors and give someone a chance to reach for the stars and achieve their goals. IACHETTA, Grazia
GRAZIA IACHETTA 1921 – 2023 Mrs. Grazia Iachetta of Lethbridge, beloved wife of the late Mr. Alberto Iachetta, passed away at Chinook Regional Hospital on December 7, 2023, at the age of 102 years.
Grazia was born July 2, 1921, in Dipignano, Cosenza, Italy, to Frank and Anna Tutera. She was educated in Laurignano. On June 22, 1946, Grazia married the love of her life Alberto lachetta. They were married in Laurignano, but they resided in Grimaldi, Cosenza, Italy, for five years before Alberto came to Canada in December 1951. Grazia left her home country in 1952 to follow Alberto to Michel, British Columbia and later to Fernie, British Columbia. They resided in British Columbia for 23 years, and in 1975, they called Lethbridge home.
Grazia was a loving, caring, and devoted wife to Alberto for 55 years. They were more than best friends; they were soulmates. They were like two peas in a pod and loved doing many things together, especially travelling. They had the opportunity to travel to Italy three times and visit Sault St. Marie numerous times. One of their favourite trips was to Hawaii to attend their great-niece’s wedding.
Besides being a devoted wife, Grazia was also a devoted Catholic and devoted to the Madonna della Catena Laurignano. When she could no longer attend church services, Grazia would participate in the weekly Sunday service on television. Her prayer book was always on her table next to her rosary.
Grazia enjoyed knitting and crocheting. She knitted and crocheted numerous dishcloths, blankets, baby clothes, and doilies. At the age of 100, she was still knitting away in her chair while watching her favourite television programs. Wrestling, The Young and the Restless, Family Feud, and Italian shows, provided her with plenty of entertainment. However, it was the visits and phone calls from family and friends that she cherished the most. The birthday letters she received when she turned 100 from Pope Francis, Prime Minister Trudeau, and Mayor Blaine Hyggen, just to name a few, definitely put a smile on her face when she received them in the mail. Grazia was also a member of the Italian Canadian Cultural Centre.
Grazia had three things on her daily to-do list – get up, survive, and go back to bed. It is these three things that perhaps got her to the age of 102 – a life well-lived! Special thanks to Dr. Leam, for the excellent care he provided for Grazia, as well as the caregivers at St. Therese Ville (First East). Thank you to Ed Hellwigh for spending time with Grazia; she looked forward to his visits. Last, but not least, a heartfelt thank you to the 4A nurses and Dr. Mtshali at the Chinook Regional Hospital and Ed Vegter and staff at Norbridge Pharmacy who looked after Grazia.
Grazia is survived by her nieces and nephews from Lethbridge, Frank (Leona) Donato, Teresa Mantello, and Flora Donato; Anna Gignac, Lina Aceti, Joe lachetta, Roy lachetta, and Teresa Burns from Sault St. Marie; and Vanda Guerriero and Sara Germanese from Grimaldi, Italy. Grazia is also remembered by many great-nieces and nephews, great-great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-great nephews.
Grazia was predeceased by her parents Frank and Anna Tutera, her husband Alberto lachetta, her sisters Maria Donato and Sister Anna Flora, her nephew Joseph Mantello, and her cousins Fernando and Antonietta Rose.
