RENNING, Darryl RENNING DARRYL OSCAR RENNING passed away peacefully at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Wednesday, September 18, 2024 at the age of 77 years old.
He is lovingly remembered by his common-law wife Shirley Renning, daughter Tabetha Renning (Bob Fortin-deceased), and only grandchild Markus Renning. Darryl was predeceased by his parents Oscar & Mary Renning, two sisters Darlene/Dolly (Vic) Hansen and Diane (Asbjorn) Ronningen, and both sons Todd Renning and Troy Renning.
Darryl was born June 28, 1947 in Lethbridge, Alberta. He grew up on the farm and attended school in Bar Hill and Picture Butte after the Bar Hill School had closed. As a teenager he played baseball, bike rides and most of all gopher hunting with his two best friends Lynn Silsbe and Dwayne Jones. They had quit the stories to tell especially about the ’56 Ford. Growing up in the country and doing a lot of driving so at the age of nineteen Darryl decided to take a career in being a Semi Truck Driver. He first started off hauling milk and then onto hauling livestock.
He hauled cattle, pigs, sheep, alpacas and horses. After shattering his elbow while unloading a load of horses he decided he needed a break and looked into flat deck hauling instead. He hauled flat bed for quite some time before convincing his wife Shirley to drive with him as a team. Things weren’t as exciting hauling flat deck so they decided to go back to hauling livestock. They drove truck for many years, putting on many miles and seeing all the provinces/states while taking their grandson Markus with them whenever they could. Darryl finally decided to retire and call it quits and hang up the keys to the truck after fifty-five years. After that many years of driving he was enjoying retirement while putting in the waterfall in the back yard and making sure his lawn was immaculate, having a few beers while watching the UFC Fights with friends and just simply kicking back and relaxing.
Darryl’s battle with COPD was short lived after having a massive stroke which left him paralyzed in and hospital and then to be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer which took his life only two months later.
A Celebration of Darryl’s life will be held at the SHAUGHNESSY COMMUNITY CENTRE, 133 – 3 Street, Shaughnessy, AB, on Saturday, October 5, 2024 from 1:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M., with a short service beginning at 2:00 P.M.
