The Edmonton Oil Kings came out with a 4-1 win over the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Thursday night at Rogers Place in Game 1 of the best-of-seven first round series.
After a scoreless first period, the Oil Kings’ Carter Souch scored his first of the playoffs at 9:30 of the middle frame to make it 1-0 for the home side.
It was over five minutes later Edmonton made the game 2-0 on a goal by Dylan Guenther with the assists going to Kaiden Guhle and Jakob Demek.
That’s how the score would stand after two periods of play.
Edmonton would make it 3-0 at 14:40 of the third period as Jaylen Luypen scored, with the assists going to Williams and Luke Prokop.
Prokop put the game away at 16:33 of the third period and made the contest 4-0 Edmonton.
Lethbridge finally got on the board at 18:12 of third period on a goal from Tyson Laventure.
The assists went to Joe Arntsen and Corson Hopwo.
The Oil Kings outshot the Hurricanes 48-26 in the win.
Lethbridge went 1-for-5 and Edmonton went 1-for-4 on the powerplay.
The teams will battle in Game 2 on Saturday night in Edmonton at 7 p.m.
