Bulls lose to top-ranked Prospects

The Edmonton Prospects made a statement on Thursday night at Spitz Stadium, beating the Lethbridge Bulls 11-2 and taking over top spot in the Western Major Baseball League’s West Division.
The Prospects knocked the Bulls’ pitching around — chasing starter Cole Slamko after two innings, then chasing Clark Grisbrook after an inning and a third before Ben Kennedy felt the sting of their bats, too, lasting three innings. Edmonton (4-0) finished with 12 hits and were on cruise control four innings and eight runs into the game.
On the defensive side, the Prospects limited the Bulls (4-1) to a pair of second-inning runs and just six hits. While Slamko took the loss, Edmonton’s Bradley J. Smith earned the win in just three innings of work. Connor Burns was the real pitching star for the Prospects, going four innings and allowing no runs and no hits.
Trace Hansen and Brandon Bufton hit doubles for Lethbridge, but the Bulls stranded 10 runners to Edmonton’s nine.
 The Bulls get a shot at redemption — and first place — tonight at 7 p.m. at Spitz Stadium when the series continues. Lethbridge is off to Okotoks to face the Dawgs on Saturday.
