Anderson shines in Pronghorn hockey win

Alicia Anderson stood tall in goal in leading the University of 
Lethbridge Pronghorns to a 3-1 victory over the Mount Royal University 
Cougars in Canada West women’s hockey action Friday night at Nicholas 
Sheran Arena.
Pronghorns were outshot 43-17, but made the most of their shots as the 
teams were tied 1-1 after the first period and the Horns led 2-1 after 
two.
Anderson’s effort included stopping MRU’s Amy Tatum on a penalty 
shot late in the third period.
Tricia Van Vaerenbergh led the Horns (6-2-0-1) offensively with two 
goals while Madison Porter added the other, which stood up as the game-
winner, in the second period. Breanna Trotter replied for the Cougars 
(5-4-0).
In men’s play Friday, the Pronghorns were defeated 6-2 by the MRU 
Cougars in Calgary. Cougars led 1-0 after the first period and 
stretched their lead to 3-1 after 40 minutes before outscoring the 
Horns 3-1 in the third.
Landon Gross and Michael Clarke scored for the Pronghorns, who were 
outshot 40-22.
Pronghorns fall to 3-6-0 with the loss while the Cougars improve to 
7-2-0.
The teams switch venues tonight with the Pronghorn men hosting the 
Cougars at 7 p.m. at Nicholas Sheran Arena with the U of L women 
travelling to Calgary to play Mount Royal.
