Comets boys and girls remain perfect in SAHSBL

The Raymond Comets boys and girls basketball boys and girls basketball teams remain undefeated in Southern Alberta High School Basketball League play.

The Comets boys beat the LCI Rams 95-77 in varsity boys play Saturday night at LCI to improve to 6-0, while the Rams sit at 3-4.

Jeter Heggie led Raymond with 24 points, Drake Still posted 17, Payson Hill and Boston Harker each added 15 and Brady Baines had 12.

For the Rams, David Kindley led with 26 points and Tanner French posted 17.

The Comets won the junior varsity game with a close 74-70 decision as West James led the way with 31 wins and Jacob MacDonnell added 12.

Carson Procee had 15 points for the Rams, Crew Hirsche chipped in with 14 and Ty Nielsen hit for 10.

In the girls varsity game, the Comets moved to a perfect 7-0 with a with a 67-46 win over the Clippers.

Leading the Comets was Saige Gibb with 32 points, the Rams were led by Presley Heggie with nine points.

The Comets also won the junior varsity as Drew Armener put up 21 points in a 63-59 win. Jane Heggie and Mataya Francis scored 15 and 12 points, respectively.

Maddie French scored 12 points for the Clippers and Morgan Hill had 11.

In other senior varsity girls play Saturday, the Magrath Pandas beat the Catholic Central Cougars 71-66 at Catholic Central.

Hattie Ogden had 18 points for the Pandas and Elley Johnson had 16. Abi Payne scored 14 for Magrath.

For Catholic Central, Claire Talbot led the way with 18 points and Aimee Baron had 16.

In the junior varsity boys game, the Zeniths beat the Cougars 87-55 led by Levi Balderson’s 22-point night for Magrath. Hunter Cook, Espen Steffenson and Joseph VanBruggen had 15, 14 and 12 points, respectively.

In Medicine Hat Saturday night, the Mohawks defeated the Cardston Cougars 107-86.

Leading the Mohawks was Ethan Egert with 27 points, while Artchie Belza added 23. Aiden Gripp scored 18 points and Austin Walton hit for 14.

Graedon Woodward had 14 points for Cardston, Isaac Atwood added 11 and Kody Janisko drained 10.

The Mohawks won the junior varsity game 88-65 as Connor Appell had 21 points for Medicine Hat.

For Cardston, Hyrum Scott led the way with 22 points, Mitch Fracis scored 14 and Hayden Weasel Head scored 11.

In the girls senior varsity game, the Kwahommies beat the Cougars 66-53, led by Tori Kaczynski’s 21 points.

Jill Leishman and Taylor Merrill paced Cardston with 16 points each.

Medicine Hat won the junior varsity girls game 97-33 as Lexi Davidson led the way with 15 points.

Blakley Scott scored 11 points for Cardston.

On Friday, the Comets varsity boys beat Cardston 109-81 in Cardston.

Harker had 28 points for Raymond, Heggie had 22 and Hill had 20. Baines put up 13 points and Still had 10.

For Cardston, Braxen Scott had a 21-point night and Rhett Lewis hit for 20.

Mitch Nelson and Janisko contributed with 16 and 10 points, respectively.

Cardston won the junior varsity game 76-74, led by Scott’s 24 points and 23 by Francis. Weasel Head scored 12.

West James had 27 points for Raymond, Ryker Dewsbery scored 15 and MacDonnell hit for 10.

The Comets senior varsity girls downed Raymond 59-36 as Bella Zaremba led the Comets with 10 points.

Lauren Wolsey scored 11 points for Cardston.

The Comets won the junior varsity game as Mataya Francis had 22 points, Ivory Romeril added 19, Jane Heggie put up 15 and Madison Mora scored 10.

Summer Hallock scored 13 points for Cardston. Kenzie Scott and Sasha Elliot chipped in with 11 and 10, respectively.

At Catholic Central, the Taber W.R. Myers Rebels girls varsity team beat the Cougars 73-62.

Anika Steed had 28 points for the Rebels. Emily Hoyt had 21 points, Hayley Jones had 18, Vicky Shimbashi had 12 and Rachel Park added 10.

Aimee Baron led Catholic Central with 17 points.

Catholic Central won the junior varsity game 53-50 as Avorie Henderson scored 20 points. Shylynn Rice had 12 points for the Rebels.

In varsity boys play Friday, the Zeniths beat the Mohawks 94-87.

Dray Walburger had 26 points for Magrath. Colton Finck scored 15, Chayse Harris added 13 and Cody Tollestrup had 12.

Elijah Buachie Kaba and Gripp each scored 23 point for Medicine Hat.

In the junior varsity game, the Zeniths won 85-82. Balderson led Magrath with 19 points, Van Bruggen and Sean Gold had 14 and Ty Michelson hit for 11.

Leading the Mohawks was Appell with 18 points.

In senior varsity girls play, the Kwahommies downed the Pandas 71-67.

Kyler Varga led Medicine Hat with 14 points. Hattie Ogden paced the Pandas with 19 points. Elley Johnson and Macie Wocknitz added 14 and 10 points respectively.
