Basketball players swept the Two Guys and a Pizza Place Pronghorn Athletes of the Week last week, as the teams battled to remain in the Canada West playoff chase.

Chad Oviatt of the men’s team and Asnate Fomina of the women took the honours.

Oviatt, a third-year forward, led all scorers both nights in a pair of wins over the MacEwan Griffins to clinch a playoff berth for the fifth consecutive season.

In the Pronghorns come-from-behind win Friday, the Edmonton product scored a game-high 22 points on a stellar 10-of-14 shooting performance. He added seven rebounds, a steal and a block in the Pronghorns 82-76 win.

To officially clinch a playoff spot, Oviatt scored 19 points to go along with eight rebounds, two assists, two blocks and a steal in a convincing 87-56 win Saturday.

On the season, Oviatt leads the Pronghorns in scoring and rebounding, averaging 15.9 points and 7.4 rebounds per game and will look to help the Pronghorns clinch a home playoff date this weekend at home versus the Thompson Rivers WolfPack.

Entering the final two weekends of the conference schedule and attempting to secure a third straight playoff berth, Fomina led the way as the Lethbridge Pronghorn women’s basketball team officially clinched a playoff spot with a pair of wins over MacEwan.

Friday night, the fifth-year guard tied for the game high with 20 points on 50 per cent shooting performance and added six rebounds, four assists and three steals in the Pronghorns dominant 82-53 win.

Saturday, Fomina recorded her first double-double of the season to lead the Pronghorns to a 69-54 win that clinched a playoff spot. She scored 19 points to go along with a Pronghorn career-high 11 rebounds for her first double-double as a Pronghorn. She also chipped in with three assists and two steals.

After missing the first half of the season due to injury, Fomina sits tied with fellow fifth-year guard Kacie Bosch for the team lead in points per game at 15.9.

Fomina and the Pronghorns host the Thompson Rivers WolfPack to close out the regular season and with two wins could secure a home playoff date, depending on results from other conference games.
