Shockey helps Lakers top Eagles

Stirling Lakers held off the Immanuel Christian Eagles 53-49 in Deep South Basketball League girls’ action Wednesday.

Hillary Shockey led the Lakers with 14 points and Talia Oviatt and Courtney McKee added 11 and nine respectively.

Megan Aleman replied with 22 points for the Eagles, followed by Olivia Veldboom and Alia Holtrop with nine apiece.

In boys’ play, Stirling Lakers downed the Claresholm Willow Creek Cobras 90-53 as Orin Smith hit for 34 points while Ty Mazutinec and Clark Bikman added 11 each.

Dan Schuepbach replied with 15 points for the Cobras and Logan Read and Jackson Wright added 12 and 10 respectively.

In junior varsity play, Stirling defeated Willow Creek 63-53 as Bikman led the winners with 24 pionts and Callan Oviatt added 17.

Willis Dixon scored 12 points for Willow Creek and Logan Read added 11.

Southern Alberta 4A Boys

On Tuesday, Cardston Cougars defeated the Chinook Coyotes 92-69 as Rhett Lewis led a balanced scoring attack for Cardston with 15 points. Corm Gregson added 14 points, followed by Braxon Scott and Isaac Atwood with 12 apiece, Drasyn Card with 11 and Mitch Nelson with 10.

Brenden Sarmiento replied with 15 points for the Coyotes and Jared Rollingson added 12.
