Hurricanes land two forwards in Import Draft

The Lethbridge Hurricanes picked up a pair of forwards in the 2021 Canadian Hockey League Import Draft Wednesday.

The Canes grabbed 2003-born forward Yegor Klavdiev and 2004-born forward Peter Repcik.

Klavdiev, 18, was selected with the 11th overall pick.

The Minsk, Belarus product had six goals and 11 points in 24 regular season games with the Belarus Under-18 team.

He played another 13 regular season games with Dinamo-Molodechno of the Belarusian ExtraLeague A where he put up two goals and four points and added three points in five post-season games.

“After watching Klavdiev at the World Under-18 Championship in Dallas this spring, we liked what we were able to see and got a good sense of what his potential could be,” said Hurricanes general manager Peter Anholt in a statement. “We think he will be able to fit into our forward group for next season.”

Klavdiev also suited up with Minskie Zubry for one regular season game, along with seven playoff games where he totaled six points on two goals and four assists.

The five-foot-11, 175-pound forward also had one goal and three points representing Belarus at the World Under-18 Championships.

In 2019-2020, he also appeared in 34 games with the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders of the United States Hockey League, collecting six points.

The Hurricanes selected 17-year-old Repcik with the 115th overall pick.

The Kosice, Slovakia native played 27 games in 2020-2021 with Team Slovakia Under-18 team, posting nine goals and 24 points.

Repcik also skated in three games with the Slovakia Under-20 team collecting two assists. The six-foot, 175-pound forward picked up five points with four goals and one assist in three games Internationally with Slovakia U-18.

“We’re happy to get Repcik where we did and to be able to add to our 2004 age group,” said Anholt. “He has some skill and we think he has the potential to eventually be a good player at our level.”

Repcik had 80 points (35 goals and 45 assists) and a plus-43 rating in 2019-2020 with HC Kosice Under-18 team in the Slovakia Under-18 league.

He also had two goals in 13-games with the Slovakia Under-16 team in 2019-20.

The Hurricanes open the 2021-22 Western Hockey League regular season October 1 when they welcome the Calgary Hitmen to the Enmax Centre.
