ASA looking for recruits

By Lethbridge Herald on July 9, 2021.

The Alberta Skeleton Association is sliding into Lethbridge this weekend.

As part of its initiative to share the sport with more athletes, the ASA will hold a camp at noon Sunday at the University of Lethbridge Stadium with Olympians on hand to share about the sport.

The camp is also looking for athletes who will be between the ages of 15 and 18 for the 2024 Youth Olympic Games.

Athletes 18-and-over can also join the development camp and work toward making a national team.

Participants will test their potential in a 30-metre sprint, medicine ball toss and standing long jump test.

The ASA will also have a wheeled sled and track for the athletes to see what it is like to push a sled.

The ASA has a camp based development program that runs out of Whistler, B.C. and a summer push program at Winsport in Calgary and are looking to introduce the sport of skeleton to more athletes, especially those looking to participate in the 2024 Youth Olympic Games.

There are currently no athletes competing in Canada that would be eligible, opening up plenty of opportunity.
